[FIC] Soulmates: Selene

Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 7/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

Afreya watched her friend interact with the guests and such, obviously not always feeling as sure about her actions, but still having fun. It was a funny situation, especially with the other Super Junior members meddling in, but she knew how afraid Selene was of creating a crowd of angry fans, and that’s why she knew what a disaster Hyukjae’s action was in her friend’s eyes. So when Selene pushed her next to Hyukjae, to stand on her other side, she simply grabbed her friend’s hand again and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

“Hangeng.” Ho Dong called out when everyone had calmed down a little. “How is her Chinese?” He was obviously completely changing the subject. Hangeng, however, immediately replied even though the question had been unexpected.

“Very good. There is a reason why she helped the Super Junior M members in China.”

“Oh that was her?” Upon Ho Dong’s question, Selene nodded, but she was obviously trying to pull out of the conversation a little. Afreya knew how uncomfortable her friend was feeling, now that the connections between her and Super Junior kept being revealed one after the other. Luckily Ho Dong seemed to sense Selene’s unwillingness to talk and now turned to the other.

“So, Afreya.” he said happily. “Who’s your favourite?” She let her eyes hover over the two boys next to her and then over the two Super Junior members sitting with the guests. A little smile appeared on her face when Hangeng waved at her.

“Honestly..” she finally replied, hesitating a moment before turning her eyes away from the Chinese young man. “I really like SHINee’s Minho.” When she said his name, the young man in question, immediately got up and walked towards her to give her a hug. She felt her face flush, but hugged back willingly.

“Betraying your friends like that!” Leeteuk exclaimed, trying his best to sound insulted. Afreya immediately looked at Selene, who was smiling.

“I don’t think Selene feels like I’m betraying her.” she replied, thereby showing that she didn’t consider the Super Junior members as friends. Of course in real life, she was quite close to them, because she had often gone along when Selene went to visit Hyukjae in the past month. The people around let out a surprised ‘oh’ because of her words and the four Super Junior members turned their heads away from her, but she was hugging Minho, so why would she care?

“I think you made a very fine choice.” Selene replied to her, giving the young man an appreciating look before smiling at her again. She chuckled as Minho quickly got back to his seat to hide next to his band leader Onew.

“So lastly shall we test how good your English really is with the help of our English master?” Ho Dong asked. The girls looked at each other before eyeing him expectantly. Who would their English master be? “2AM’s Jo Kwon!” People started clapping and cheering when the young man got up and walked up to Ho Dong. The host put an arm around Jo Kwon’s shoulders, gave him some courage and then let him walk to the girls. Afreya felt how her friend pushed her forward a little, so she walked up to the young man and bowed at him.

“Hi.” he said.

“Hello.” she replied.

“What is your name?”

“Afreya. And yours?”

“My name is Jo Kwon.”

“Nice to meet you. How are you doing?”

So far he had been talking quite decent English, although he had an outrageous accent, which was kind of cute still, but what came next was unexpected. He set off in a series of meaningless sounds with some English words in between here and there. He did not make sense at all and everyone was laughing, including Afreya. When he finally finished, it was not her who replied, but Selene, who stepped forward and turned to the audience to translate.

“He said he’s doing alright, but his band members keep picking on him even though he’s the band leader. He’s jealous of Nickhun for being able to do acrobatic stuff on stage and sing cool songs while all he can do is sing ballads. He also envies Nickhun’s ability to speak multiple languages, while all he can do is speak Korean and invent a new language called Kwon English. As a last thing, he said he doesn’t like it that no one ever chooses him when being asked who their favourite is.” Afreya knew her friend was just inventing things he could possibly have said. Hearing her bring up a bunch of true facts, however, made her realize how much more Selene knew about the Korean artists since she had got together with Hyukjae.

The laughter erupting after her words exceeded the laughter Jo Kwon had gotten by far. Jo Kwon himself, however, immediately walked towards Selene, arms spread out. When he hugged her, he exclaimed “My soul mate! Finally someone who understands me!” Selene obviously couldn’t keep herself from laughing, as she shortly hugged him back. When they let go, Selene stepped back and immediately searched for her friend’s hand again. Afreya noticed a slight trembling when she looked at her friend, but decided to comment on it later.

When Selene had hugged Jo Kwon, she had seen Hyukjae grinding his teeth, obviously wanting to take a step forward. Luckily, Leeteuk had held him back, because if he hadn’t, Jo Kwon would probably have gotten hit by the jealous boyfriend. It was kind of hard to know they were together but not being allowed to show it nor having anyone else who knew. Afreya praised herself lucky to be send backstage right after Jo Kwon’s English performance. They would wait there for their friends who would come after the show was finished.

With a sigh she let herself fall down on the chair, looking up at Selene who entered the room quietly. She was obviously lost in thoughts and judging from her serious face they were not happy thoughts. Afreya worried about her friend, she had never shown this kind of image. Selene was the tough one, never affected by anything around her, only showing weakness when she was bedridden by sickness, which had only happened once before.

“You found yourself one jealous boyfriend, you know.” she said, trying to lighten up her friend’s thoughts. It felt great to speak Japanese again and not being watched every second. Selene looked up at her, asking for an explanation with her eyes. “He was ready and willing to fight with that Jo Kwon person when he hugged you like that. It was a good thing Leeteuk kept him from moving or it would have been a very hectic Star King this time.” For some reason Selene started smiling upon hearing that. She walked up to the chair next to Afreya and sat down as well.

“He’s such a sweetheart.” she mumbled, shaking her head lightly. “But such an idiot. Turning his head like that. If there had been no cameras I would have kicked his butt. Fool. Now I’ll certainly get all the fans hunting me.” Every bit of sadness she had shown a little earlier had completely disappeared, making place for Selene’s annoyance. Afreya couldn’t help giggling.

“Can I watch when you beat him up later?” she asked softly, making Selene chuckle as well.

“You can even help if you want.” They laughed together a moment, before getting serious again. “Hangeng was surprisingly talkative, don’t you think?” Selene then continued. Afreya nodded. She had noticed it as well. Whenever they visited the dorm, he had never said much, but here on the show he had practically pulled all attention to him by starting in Chinese.

“And I hugged Minho!” she exclaimed happily, thinking back of the moment. Selene laughed.

“I can’t believe how you still get so excited every time you see a celebrity. They’re just people as well, you know. Nothing special about them.”

“Nothing special, of course. Except for his incredibly hotness, his charming eyes and his incredibly cute smile.” Afreya almost bounced up and down on her chair, nodding like a lunatic. After doing that a while, she stopped and burst out laughing. “I must sound like a crazy fan.” she said chuckling.

“Only a little.” Selene replied, grinning. “And I don’t really think he’s that sexy, but of course I’m a little biased.” Afreya sighed.

“Aish. I forgot you can see nothing but silver anymore. Even gold isn’t good enough for you.” she replied, shaking her head. The silver thing was a pun on Eunhyuk’s name that she had started using from the moment on Selene had started talking about him in a loving way. Since the ‘Eun’ in his stage name stood for silver, she had easily invented the mockery. Selene didn’t mind, she just laughed, but whenever Eunhyuk heard it, he always pretended to attack her, being held back every time again by Leeteuk when he was around and otherwise by Donghae.

Donghae and Eunhyuk, those two were like one soul in two bodies. Afreya had always liked the way they treated one another. Selene had felt a little awkward in the beginning seeing how close all the boys were, especially those two, but after a few times she had grown used to it and she didn’t even look back anymore when her boyfriend hung around the other guys or hugged them. When it came to Heechul they weren’t surprised about anything anymore. He had the strangest habits and reactions, yet he was probably their best friend among the thirteen guys.

“Well all you seem to see is that Minho of yours. You didn’t even notice how jealous Leeteuk really was.” Selene suddenly said.

“He’ll have to suck it up, he’s a nice guy, but that’s it. He’s not really my type, now that I’ve got to know him. Besides, you know how I’m into a different boy every other week. This week it’s Minho, next week it might be Shindong.” Afreya shook her head and got up to grab a bottle of water.

“Oh please.” her friend responded sarcastically. “As if you would ever be interested in someone who weighs more than half of what he should weigh.” Selene was obviously dead serious about her words, making Areya get annoyed. She slammed her fist on the table next to her.

“Hey! What’s wrong with you? If there’s something bothering you, don’t work it out on me. Aish! You can be such a pain in the butt.” She got up and left the room, leaving Selene alone with whatever thoughts were twirling through her head. Once outside, she started walking, finding her way through the different hallways as if she walked around there almost every day. When walking around a corner, she suddenly bumped into someone. Surprised she took a step back to regain her balance, while looking up at the person. It was Nickhun, the guy who apparently came from Thailand, even though he was a Korean idol. She just forgot which band he was from again. The only Korean boysbands she knew were Super Junior and SHINee anyway.

“I’m sorry.” she said, absentmindedly still using Japanese. When she wanted to walk on, he put a hand on her arm.

“Afreya, right?” he asked in Korean, which made her remember she would have to speak that language too. She just nodded in answer to his question, because if she didn’t need to say anything, she wouldn’t. “If you go that way, you’ll end up on the stage again. Where did you want to go?”

“Oh.. Nowhere special. I just wanted to walk around a little. Sitting in a room waiting isn’t really the most exciting thing to do and I’m not a very patient person.” she replied. He smiled and nodded.

“Want to go have a drink with me?” he then asked. She gave him a surprised look, not really sure what to answer to that sudden bold question. “I mean just in my dressing room or something. While waiting for the show to end. Maybe time passes faster with a drink in your hand.” She felt a certain relief when he only wanted to be friendly instead of asking her out like she had thought he was doing. She didn’t want to end up in the same fan-stress situation as Selene was in.

“A drink sounds nice. I hope you have some orange juice here.” she replied, smiling back at him. He grinned and started walking, thereby showing her the way to the room he was said to wait in.

“Oh I have orange juice, but I might keep that for myself.”

“Unfair! You have to let the guest choose first.”

“Then I’ll hide it from you.”

“I’ll find it for sure. I have a great nose for finding orange juice.” Nickhun laughed, it was a happy sound, yet a little childlike. It sounded very cute and Afreya couldn’t help smiling.

“I’ll keep you to that.”

“Ok, maybe it’s better at finding dog shit than orange juice, but I’ll still find it, even if I have to clear out every corner of that room of yours.” she gave in a little. He chuckled as he opened the door to the room assigned to him as long as the show was running.

“You know, we can watch the show while sitting here, does that sound like a good idea to you?” he suddenly said as he walked to the little table and took the bottle of orange juice and two glasses.

“Sure.” Realizing she didn’t have enough Korean knowledge anymore to finish her sentences, so she started talking English. “Then I can see what kind of idiotic actions those Super Junior dudes will make this time. And I can drool over Minho a little more.” She slapped her hand over her mouth when she realized she wasn’t talking to Selene, but to another celebrity that she hardly knew. “I’m sorry, I forgot who I was talking to.” she mumbled. He simply laughed.

“So you’re a real fan, are you?” He seemed to understand her English well enough, as he had switched to that language himself, so she just went on in English.

“Yah.. Well.. I know more about Japanese bands, but I like Super Junior and SHINee. SHINee more, now that I’ve got to know those Super Junior babies.” She giggled about her own new name for the guys. “Apart from that, I really love Jonghyun’s voice.”

“Yah, he’s really good at singing. I wish I was even half as good as him.”

“Oh and his new haircut is just yummy. I thought the previous one was good, but this new blonde is just.. Oh I’m sorry, I’m being all fan again.” Nickhun was obviously not minding her talkativeness as he just grinned because of her words.

“So Minho is hot, Jonghyun has a nice voice and is yummy, anyone else you like?” he asked, almost seeming really interested. She shrugged, but felt how her cheeks were slowly flushing. What was she talking about to this stranger who was a very famous idol in his country? A country she was in now as well, but where she wouldn’t be again often. Dang she was doing stupid stuff. “So?” Nickhun got her out of her pondering.

“Oh.. Well.. To be honest I love Eunhyuk’s dancing, but that’s just that. I would of course not do anything as long as Selene’s d-” Nickhun gave her a surprised look as she suddenly stopped talking. “I mean she’s totally into him, even though you might not have noticed because she’s such a pain in the butt to him, but I mean come on..”

“They’re together, right?” he interrupted her. She stared at him as if she was seeing ghosts. “I mean.. You wanted to say she’s dating him didn’t you? It was obvious from the way he reacted when our Kwonnie hugged her.” She bit her lower lip.

“Aish. I talk too much.” She hit her head. “I’m sorry, I’ve got to go. I’m so stupid. They will k-” She got up, but he took her hand to stop her.

“I won’t tell anyone.” he promised, seeming genuine. She shook her head.

“I really have to go.” she insisted. “But it’s very nice of you to promise me you won’t tell anyone else. I hope you mean it.” She pulled her hand free and set for the door.

“Whatever you say, Afreya.” He sounded so calm that she stopped and looked at him. He smiled. “You should calm down a little. Are you both always this tensed? Selene had a hard time keeping her nerves under control on that stage as well.. Although I have to admit that Eunhyuk was a moron stealing that kiss on stage, right in front of everyone.” Afreya nodded.

“It’s hard to work with male idols. You always have to be prepared for the angry fans’ reactions if they should ever see you together. And when you’re actually dating one in secret like Selene is then it gets all the more dangerous to be around them. It really is nerve wrecking. I plan on dating a nice random guy who has no fans whatsoever so that I won’t be shot dead by their gazes whenever I so much as look at my boyfriend in public.” Nickhun laughed, but did nod in acknowledgement.

“Sometimes being a normal guy with a normal job, being able to have a girlfriend like any other normal person sounds so tempting.” he replied, seemingly thinking about the mere possibility of it made him look a little regretful. She smiled a little and sat back down, deciding she did surely have enough time to talk with him a little longer. No one would miss her until the broadcast ended anyway.
