Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 24/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

The silence lasted for a while, everyone trying to figure out on their own just how important the new information would be for them. It was obvious to all of them now that there was so much more behind the whole thing than they had initially thought. It wasn’t hard to imagine how much they would be affected by what they had just heard. Homin was capable of understanding that at least, so he turned to the only person who had remained completely still during the whole explanation – curtsey of his friend.

Surprisingly the thoughts coming from the unmoving form were very clear and not at all disconnected like he was used from his own victims. ‘Remember and move.’ he sent the silent order to the unmoving guy, ignoring the look Misun immediately sent him. He watched the eldest out of the group – aside from him – shift in place and then slowly sit up, but didn’t stay behind to see what happened next. Mere moments later he was out of the apartment door, hopefully without anyone noticing.

To his surprise, there was someone following after him and it wasn’t Misun. Instead, the until now rather silent Youngwoon came after him. A hand on his arm was the only thing keeping him from walking off just like that. When he turned around he looked into the dark eyes of one of the oldest members present.

The oldest of his newly created vampires, but also – he suddenly realised – the first in line when it came to heritage. Possibly this vampire had just gotten a power since Kyuhyun had killed Jimin. It took one look past the completely calm exterior to see the completely empty inside of the man. And suddenly Homin realised that he had indeed not heard a single thought coming from the strong man for a while.

“You’re not going anywhere.” Youngwoon spoke, his voice almost a whisper. “Not today and not any day.” The man smiled without emotion, making Homin feel like he was being overpowered. It was unnerving to not hear a single thought for the first time in years. In fact, it was unnerving to see all the people sharing his gifts gathered together.

Only one of them had to to figure out his weak spot and he’d be done for. What he needed was for them to learn how to use their gifts so that he’d be able to live on in peace. A sudden increase of pressure on his wrist made him go back to the present.

“I’m not going anywhere.” he replied, much more calm than he felt. “I’m just giving them some time. Shouldn’t you go inside as well? Your friend woke up with his memories.” He nodded with a smile at the door that had fallen closed behind them. Youngwoon looked back shortly, before turning to look at him again.

“I’m constantly seeing images in my head that are not things I can see. Therefore you will have to stay and explain it to me.” Youngwoon smiled that dangerously empty smile again.

“Why did you not tell the others? They were all honestly proclaiming their powers yet you kept quiet.” Homin immediately shot back, seizing the opportunity to corner the other. However Youngwoon remained unaffected by the accusation.

“Because it only just started happening. I thought it was the doing of one of them, but I guess not seeing how you respond to it.” The smile disappeared suddenly and Youngwoon turned around again to look at the door. His forehead creased in a frown before he sighed. “Heechul will never change, will he?” he muttered, but he obviously wasn’t angry – much.

“Youngwoon...” Homin started, immediately gaining the other’s attention. “No matter what your memories are of those you just saw in there, all that was over fifteen years ago. They need you now. Especially the one who just woke up; he’ll need you the most. And if you don’t help him, Kyuhyun will do more things he’ll regret. All of you, you belong together now even more than you used to in the past. I will help you guys if everyone allows me to, but first of all you need to help each other.”

The silence that fell between them was only interrupted by the rumble of people talking inside. Youngwoon was listening to the voices, but obviously also considering the things that had just been said to him. After a while, he suddenly nodded, taking a step towards the door.

“If you run, we will find you, don’t doubt that.” he stated as he reached for the handle. “And I’ll make sure it won’t be pretty.” With that, the eldest of vampires was left in a small hallway, discarded like a piece of trash.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

At the unspoken order, everything had blackened in front of Jungsoo’s eyes for a moment, before he felt his body sit up. His eyes opened almost automatically and he found himself looking at the people that were once his band members. None of them had noticed yet that he was awake, but that changed when he couldn’t stop the wave of regret washing through him. Immediately Jongwoon’s head whipped around and then everyone else looked as well.

The commotion that followed could best be described as fourteen guys having no clue what to say, but all talking anyway. Until Heechul suddenly started to move, walking over to Jungsoo and punching him without a warning. Several members gasped, some took a step forward in shock, but they all decided to stay out of it once Li Yin interfered.

“That one was for paralysing my girlfriend.” Heechul spoke calmly. “This one is for being such an idiot.” Instead of punching the other a second time, however, he pulled the nine days older male into a tight hug. “I missed that self-blaming look of yours, Jungsoo. It looks better on you than the arrogant grin you had before. Keep this expression for a while longer, okay? But do discard the feelings behind it. We need your leader brain right now. You couldn’t help it either. We’ll just find a way to work things out from where we are now. Leave the past be, none of us were in the right state of mind anyway.

Apparently that was a speech that settled Jungsoo’s feelings because he smiled lightly, although with a sad hint to it. The next moment he finally reached out to hug the other back. The tie that Jongwoon had held up depriving him of his emotions was obviously gone now. Everyone was so focused on the two eldest near the bed that they didn’t notice Youngwoon coming back in.

It wasn’t until said person suddenly called out Jongwoon’s name that all the heads turned again, right in time to see Jongwoon apparently had passed out in Youngwoon’s arms. Mere moments later Kyuhyun was standing next to them as well, having woken up the moment Jongwoon’s hold over him faltered. He took the unmoving body out of Youngwoon’s arms, stopping Misun with a mere word when she tried to get closer.

It was then that Youngwoon suddenly looked up and the moment his eyes found Jungsoo’s, the latter felt his body relax, a smile almost instantly appearing on his face. There was only a slight hesitance before Youngwoon smiled back and it was so familiar and comforting that he found it in himself to get up from the bed.

“Kyuhyun.” he said then, waiting for the vampire to look at him. He did after a moment, although obviously trying his best not to. Jungsoo merely smiled once their eyes met and opened his arms slightly, offering a hug. A split second long he feared the younger was going to get angry at him, but then the cold exterior broke and suddenly he was holding a half a head taller male, violently shaking in his arms.

“Ssh, it’s okay.” he muttered softly, patting the younger’s back and finding every bit of love he had in himself for the other. “It’s going to be okay.” Everyone else just looked at them, having no clue what was going on between the two o them. “It’s alright, Kyuhyun, it’s all okay.” They didn’t even seem to talk anymore after that as Kyuhyun just buried himself against his leader and Jungsoo merely held the other tightly.

It was only when the youngest of the two stopped trembling that Jungsoo looked up at the others, showing them a hesitant smile. “Hey guys.” he muttered, lifting one hand in greeting, the other still wrapped around Kyuhyun’s back. “It’s been a while.” He smiled a little wider then, his dimple showing as he let his eyes wander over his thirteen old friends and their three female companions. “I hope I didn’t cause too much problems?”

When those words left his mouth, Donghae suddenly stepped forward from behind the others, walking over to the eldest and wrapping his arms around both Kyuhyun and Jungsoo. It was a small gesture but they all knew how many emotions were behind it, the three of them clinging so close together and Donghae mumbling hushed reassurances to Kyuhyun. Jungsoo was slightly surprised, yet merely smiled a little wider then, happy to be accepted back in just like that.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“What’s going on?” Hyukjae muttered to Sang Mi, who was still loyally standing on his left. “Why are they clinging together like that? What is the problem?” He tore his eyes away from the scene with some difficulty, looking up at the girl. “Why is the young kid crying, he seemed rather tough before?” The girl eyed him in surprise for a moment, before seeming to realise that his mindreading abilities had left him now that the danger was gone.

“I don’t know either, Hyukjae.” she replied just as softly, putting a hand on his shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. He felt himself lean into the touch, Sang Mi being the only person he knew, the only person he was sure of. Everyone else in the room with him were strangers, even though he was pretty sure they wouldn’t harm him, it still felt uncomfortable.

“Kyuhyun killed people in the past.” a voice suddenly spoke up on their right and Hyukjae turned his head to see Youngwoon standing there. “When he wasn’t aware yet of his own power. He used to have a girlfriend before we were all changed. One day he saw her with her new husband, a really nice guy who was very good for her. He got jealous and said something stupid, the next moment the words came true, the man died. It had happened a few times before and it was that day that he realised the sudden deaths or injuries weren’t mere coincidence.”

Hyukjae stared at the bigger male, wondering how he knew so many things – how everyone knew so many things while he was so clueless. Youngwoon turned to look at him then and their eyes met for a moment. He suddenly felt as if this guy in front of him could see right through him, which wouldn’t really have surprised him, honestly.

“I see images of the past.” Youngwoon confessed then, voice low. “Apparently I got the ability when the woman died. Being the first she changed I inherited part of her powers.” He frowned, looking over to Jungsoo again shortly before sighing. “I don’t even want to know what will happen if Homin should ever die.”

“Will that thing die anyway?” Sang Mi hissed, her hatred for said person obvious. When the two guys looked at her in surprise at that, she blushed slightly. “What? I really don’t like him. He just used everyone as puppets for his own survival.” She motioned a hand at the group. “And look at all of you now, almost scared of each other. I don’t get how you’re not even angry at him!”

Those words had the two of them frowning, thinking over the reasons why they were – indeed – not the least bit angry. In fact, thinking it over it became more suspicious than it had already been and they looked at each other to see if they felt the same. Right then, someone on Sang Mi’s left leaned closer and Hyukjae looked in the guy’s direction. Hangeng was his name, if he remembered quite well.

“We all got our powers from him. He’s using the ability Li Yin has to keep us calm. He made us all decide to just not care about what he did. There’s nothing much we can do about that. Whenever we do get angry from now on, he will make us decide on calming down every time again.” Hangeng calmly explained. He didn’t seem quite bothered by the idea, but it made Hyukjae incredibly uncomfortable and Youngwoon seemed to get angry anyway.

“That little piece of..” he muttered, but suddenly his eyes hazed over and he seemed to be out of it for a split second before coming back to the present. “He doesn’t mean bad with us anymore, though.” he then altered his words, still seeming slightly dazed. “Damn these powers will take some getting used to. I keep seeing scenes in my mind that don’t even add up to anything. But Homin.. I think right now he’s trying to help us. I think he feels a little sorry. If only a little.”

“Well that’s just great.” Sang Mi huffed. “It’s just a little too late for that, though. That stupid idiot destroyed everyone’s lives and now he’s feeling sorry?” She snorted, shaking her head, but before she could say anything else, movement from the three hugging guys made them all look up for a moment to see if everything was still okay.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Donghae finally let go of his dongsaeng when he was completely sure Kyuhyun had calmed down. The usually so snarky boy seemed to be completely different from his usual self and it worried him how he had noticed the actual tears on the other’s cheeks. But he knew whatever was going on was between the two of them, so he straightened up a little and sent Jungsoo another small smile. Right as the leader smiled back at him, Kyuhyun spoke up.

“I’m sorry, hyung.” he whispered barely audible. “I never meant to hurt you. My anger just got the best of me and then suddenly it happened and…” He stopped there, seeming unable to finish his sentence, as if he was afraid that the rest of his words would piss the other off. But that didn’t seem to be the case, instead Jungsoo smiled at him and patted his shoulder.

“It’s okay, Kyuhyun-ah.” he replied just as softly. “I know you didn’t intend to hurt me. There was no way you could know. Besides; I’m slightly stupid for falling in love with that anyway.” He smiled lightly, exchanging one more look with the maknae before turning away and looking at the other members. He was over at Youngwoon in no time, almost immediately wrapping the other in a hug and allowing himself to be hugged back.

Donghae watched as Hyukjae slowly moved away from the two, moving to a more secluded part of the living room so Jungsoo wouldn’t suddenly storm at him for a hug as well. It hurt him how Hyukjae was so clueless still of everything they had been through together. He tried to imagine what it would be like, seeing this group of people without knowing anything of the past years spent together in unity. Suddenly a dull feeling came over him and he quietly focused on the leader again, just like everyone else was doing at that moment.

Jungsoo let go of Youngwoon not long after, giving him another smile and a pat before turning to the next best person, Hangeng. There were words mumbled in between the hugging and with one member Jungsoo lingered a little longer than with the other. When he reached Jongwoon, the two merely nodded at each other at first, Jungsoo seeming hesitant, Jongwoon downright unwilling, but in the end the leader stepped closer and hugged the other man anyway.

It went on like that, Jungsoo going past Shindong, Ryeowook and Henry. Donghae noticed he suddenly became aware of Kibum moments later, the original maknae allowing Jungsoo to wrap him in a hug as well, patting him awkwardly on the back and muttering something that surprisingly none of them understood. It didn’t take long for Jungsoo to let go again and move on to the next person.

When he was done hugging everyone, Jungsoo looked around once and then finally walked up to Hyukjae, his smile ever so bright with a dimple showing and everything. Donghae felt happy seeing that, knowing how scared the leader had been to be accepted. But Jungsoo hadn’t counted on Hyukjae’s inability to remember. So when he went to Hyukjae with open arms, the younger backed away, a frown on his face.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know who you are.” Hyukjae explained and Donghae could see Jungsoo’s face fall, expression growing shocked, maybe even a little hurt. He quickly walked up to the two, putting a hand on Jungsoo’s shoulder.

“He doesn’t remember, hyung.” he said then, smiling lightly at Hyukjae who seemed rather lost. “Apparently the only way to make him remember was via his original sire, the one who changed him, but she… Yeah.” Jungsoo’s eyes looked at him then, before going back to Hyukjae, confusion obvious in his expression. Right as Donghae wanted to explain it better, the leader spoke up however.

“But I am the one who changed him.”

A deafening silence fell over the people around and Hyukjae frowned slightly, looking from one to the other as they slowly let go and spread out a little more again. The first one to realise what was going on was the maknae of the group, who had remained surprisingly silent up till then, “I... think he doesn’t remember us yet.” Henry mumbled, making everyone else think about the option.

“He never will.” Homin spoke up at that, after having kept aside for quite a while by then. Immediately the mood in the room grew a little colder again, but it was not as bad as it had been. “He has been reading your minds for a while now. The only memories he has of that band are your own, but he can’t see himself in them because he’s convinced he was never there. The only way for him to regain his memories was by letting his first sire give them back, but some smartpants decided to kill her before we could tell her to do so.” He sent a not-so-subtle glare in the direction of the sleeping Kyuhyun but got interrupted by Misun at that.

“Homin that’s fine now, please stop this superiority act. I’m growing tired of it. It’s not like you’re the only capable person in this room. They also know what they’re doing, despite what you may think.” she stated coldly, turning around then to walk to the members. “Okay, guys, I’ll do my best to explain this clear enough so you can understand everything.”

Hyukjae almost breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he’d be able to trust Misun’s words. Maybe she didn’t always say everything, but at least the things she did say were always true - or had been so far.

“Homin is the oldest vampire there is.” she started. “And because of that, was at one point also the only one left with powers like his. But he had seen his brothers die because they held on to their strength too much, and for that, he wanted to share his in hopes of living longer. The old vampires can only pass on their abilities to one other person only, so they have to be careful with who they pick, because the powers will be spread throughout their offspring - or so we call it. Every person changed by one of you can have powers too.” Misun stopped for a moment to allow the information to sink in as the members looked like they needed it.

“The reason he chose Jimin is because he knew she would change no one but you guys and he knew you would probably not change anyone who had plans to take over the world.” At that point, Homin wanted to interrupt but a mere glare from Misun made him shut up again, making Hyukjae wonder just how this woman had so much power over the old and unbeatable vampire. The two seemed to consider it normal, however, so he hoped she would explain that part too at some point.

“So here’s the deal.. Jimin was one of your fangirls - a Yesung biased as they would say at the time. When Homin changed her after your concert, he was not included in her hate. She hunted for all of you, took you out one by one in the most various ways so that she’d never be found out by normal humans. In the end, only Jongwoon was left and she did her best to keep him and his family alive. But the car accident was unexpected.” Misun turned to look at Jongwoon and Hyukjae wondered for how long they had been together, but he didn’t ask, letting her continue her explanation instead.

“Jimin sent all the ones she had sired towards the scene of the accident, hoping they would be in time. Jungsoo reached the scene first. He dragged me out of the car before tending to Jongwoon because I was still conscious at that moment. Luckily our daughter was at her grandparents. Even though I was wounded, I was fine, but Jungsoo came to tell me not much later that Jongwoon had not survived. Little did I know that he had changed him into a vampire in order to keep him from dying. The only reason I survived was because I felt I should live for our daughter.” Hyukjae found himself wondering who their daughter might be, glancing at Li Yin shortly before discarding that idea.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Donghae eyed the woman talking to them. He did not remember her, but she seemed to have been close to them all the time. When she talked about Jongwoon’s car accident he suddenly got a flash of an image - possibly coming from Homin - and then everything was clear as crystal. He didn’t say a word however, waiting for Misun to continue talking. And she did, apparently having found the rhythm in her story.

“I struggled to get better the first year after the accident, being kept in a hospital where my revalidation was done. Our daughter came to visit me once, but I refused to see her after that, as she looked too much like my deceased husband. I mourned, at some point refusing to live on even, which was about the time when I met Jack.”

The name sparked some memories inside of Donghae, but he had no clue what to connect them to, so instead of trying to figure out his own mind, he kept listening to Misun’s explanation, hoping that would give him more of an idea of who the Jack person would be.

“He had come in contact with vampires before and told me all about them. He sought me out because of my job, asking me to help him find a way to make them more able to walk in the sun and less needy of blood, so they could live without harming humans so much.” Misun smiled bitterly at a past memory.

“He brought me to what is now the Facility, back then a mere bunker where he had a few vampires locked in to test my remedies on. Some of them died during the process but he eased my guilt saying they should have been dead already anyway. We were about one year into the Daywalker project when Hangeng entered the Facility. I knew he didn’t know about me because I only became Jongwoon’s girlfriend after he disappeared, but even when I asked him about Super Junior or anything from his past, he had no clue what I was talking about.”

Misun exchanged a short glance with Hangeng at that and they smiled shortly at each other. The two obviously went far back, Donghae realised at that moment. How long ago would their meeting have been? If this really was a whole scam like he felt it to be at first, then would his friend be involved in it as well? More and more, he started to realise that it was all very real. Every word said to him since he regained his memories. And still Misun continued.

“That’s when I realised Jack made our Daywalkers wipe the vampires’ memories when bringing them in. That’s also when I started to doubt that all of you had really died. Li Yin came in as a nurse not much after Hangeng but when Heechul was plucked from the streets as well not that much later, I finally started to believe what earlier had only been suspicions. Suddenly I felt hope that maybe some of you - if not all - had not died, but merely been changed.” She smiled lightly.

“I thought about the possibility that my husband may still have been alive and that it might also take years before I found him, so that’s when I came up with the idea of vengers - a way to make humans live as long as vampires. And right as I started looking for vampires to help me with my idea, Homin showed up.” Her eyes flashed to the vampire who was standing so still it looked as if he were dead.

“He told me about vampires and the way they worked. He showed me everything there was to know about them, cooperating in every test I wanted to do until I developed a way that would make it possible to get all the strengths of a vampire yet none of its weaknesses. That’s when he offered an exchange. He’d help me with my project, make sure it’d go well, if I helped him by using the Daywalker treatment on him.”

“Now there’s something most don’t know about Daywalkers, but when they were created, Jack demanded a way to have them taken out easily, in case they’d ever decide to stand up against us. By injecting the needle into the neck in the same spot every time, it will create a vulnerable spot there which – if attacked in the right way – will cause those vampires to turn into ashes. However, even though Jack demanded this, when Hangeng entered for changing, I told his nurse – Li Yin – to do it in different places every time.”

Donghae vividly remembered the way the two Daywalkers coming along with Ryeowook had dissolved into ashes because of a single movement from the latter. Now he had gotten his explanation for that and his eyes went to Youngwoon, who was obviously thinking about those same memories.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

In a corner of the room, Jongwoon stood watching his wife. His hold on the two vampires was still there, but he had woken them up so they could listen along, even though he was keeping their feelings away from them still. He decided they deserved to be able to hear the explanations as well. But it was getting harder and harder to hold himself in check, with the feelings of three people running through him, none of those people very calm.

Yet he managed, keeping the image of his wife in front of his eyes, telling himself he didn’t want to hurt her. Misun was oblivious to his struggle, however, keeping her eyes moving over the other members as she talked with no indication that she was actually seeing them. She seemed more lost in her memories as she told the story and somehow he was convinced that the ancient vampire was feeling the same things along with her. It irked him.

“Homin knew about this, which is why he went through the trouble of getting to know me instead of simply entering the Facility and having the change done to him that way.” Misun spoke up again, smoothly continuing her story. “I took his deal because I could use the help and we went on with our earlier experiments, turning him into a Daywalker first. It worked, of course, since I had done it plenty of times in the past. For the other experiment, turning me into a half-vampire, we needed several tries.” There was a short exchange of glances between Misun and Homin, both of them the only ones to know what would come next.

“The first three times we started with preparations when Homin would suddenly stop and tell me where it would go wrong. I’d then take another look at my calculations and we’d start again. It worked the fourth time, and I was the first venger in existence. But what neither of us could have foreseen was the way it linked us together. By using his venom for my unnatural change, I had not made him my sire, but the effects had gone the other way around.”

At that, Jongwoon wasn’t able to hold back a growl, and it wasn’t until several people turned to look at him that he realised it had been rather loud. His wife was one of the few not looking at him, however, which made him even more anxious. His whole body was tensed up, the muscles in his arms bulging with the strength with which he was clenching his fists.

What calmed him down was not his own self-control or some harshly needed words from his wife, but a wave of understanding surging through the ties that bound him to Kyuhyun. The younger probably was the only one to really understand how hard it had been for him to see his wife like that and then have to hear how she was bound to another. Kyuhyun had, after all, killed his once-upon-a-time girlfriend’s husband when he found out about him, something that had haunted him ever since he had done it.

Jongwoon felt his muscles slowly relax, the strain on his hold over himself disappearing with the continuous understanding he felt. He started focusing on Kyuhyun then, sending back the same kind of understanding to calm both their hearts, and the gratefulness he got in return was more than worth his efforts. Throughout their whole exchange, Misun remained oblivious to his pain, however, as she kept talking.

“No one knew that I had changed, however, and because my heart was still beating, no one would find out either, I made sure of that. But my plans changed when Li Yin came to me one day around the time that Siwon and Ryeowook entered the Facility. Heechul and her had spent a lot of time together and she had found in him someone she wanted to spend her life with. She came to me to ask for permission to get changed into a vampire.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

When his girlfriend’s name was mentioned, Heechul’s head shot up and he turned to look at said person. She was standing farther away than he had thought, so he reached out a hand to her. Almost immediately she was by his side, curling into his side. He had always known she changed into a venger only at the beginnings of their relationship, but he had never known her reasons. Even though he’d rather hear them from herself, he wasn’t going to interrupt Misun’s story.

“I told her it would only work nicely if she would also take the painful Daywalker treatment afterwards, but she didn’t complain. It was then that I realised she was as serious about it as I had been, so I offered her the option of becoming a venger. Having been close to both of them, Hangeng offered his help and by doing so, he regained his memories of the past. We’re not exactly sure why or how it happened, but it did.”

Heechul knew what was coming next in the story, as he still vividly remembered the difficult choices he had to make throughout those next months. Having Li Yin by his side had been wonderful, but he had never been one to stay in one place for long – especially not when it was forced. And when Hangeng gave him his memories back as well, he was certainly not going to stick around to watch that Jack dude misuse his friends.

“That was five years ago. After that, Zhou Mi showed up soon as well. Several months into the whole Daywalker program, Heechul decided to leave. He was not up for being someone’s lapdog, being used to go around and catch bad vampires. Jack was not happy about it, but even he knew that there was no use trying to get him back by force. So he trained Zhou Mi to be the best Daywalker we had in order to be able to get Heechul back one day. He never really was anywhere near good enough for that – no offence Mi – but Jack believed he was.

Things stayed quite low, but then Youngwoon and Donghae entered around the same time and when Hangeng heard of what Jack planned to do with them, he started protesting. You see, the Facility started out as a place where vampires would get treated so they wouldn’t need to drink blood as often and could live a more normal life. But over the years, Jack’s ate for the race grew and he slowly started to have everyone brainwashed, memories getting wiped from the start, treatments becoming more ruthless.

The moment Hyukjae entered, Hangeng and Jack got into a big fight and Jack decided to get Hangeng’s memories wiped again too. For some reason – I guess Li Yin might have been in between that – he stalled a little, which gave me time to find out about it. but didn’t make it in time to stop the whole thing. Luckily the two of them had made up their plan already anyway, based on Li Yin’s siredom over him.

From then on, things went from bad to worse, however. Jack tried getting more control and I told the nurses to give the patients some more freedom. Sang Mi listened best, letting Hyukjae wander around a lot. One of those days he helped Donghae and Youngwoon escape, around the same time as Hangeng got his memories back. Jack sent a trio of Daywalkers after them, Ryeowook being one of them. That’s kind of where the search for all the Super Junior members started, I guess.

Not long after, Hangeng and Li Yin left, which Jack saw as a sign. He took over the Facility completely, leaving me with no real power. I stayed, however, in case anyone would still need me, and that turned out to be the case a few weeks later when Hyukjae, Siwon and Sang Mi finally left too. That’s when Heechul called and we came straight away. When I realised who we were dealing with, I told Zhou Mi to call for Homin straight away as I didn’t know how things would work out.”

“It’s time to let go of him now, Jimin dear.” Homin said as he slowly pulled the woman away from her still unconscious ‘pet.’ She let out a protesting sound, frowning yet complying to the hands that pulled her away from Jungsoo. They were in Heechul’s apartment, hiding out there for those who could not stand the sunlight yet. Outside, the sky was slowly getting lighter, humans waking up from their sleep with no idea of what had happened that night in a forest not too far away.

Zhou Mi and Kibum had arrived at the apartment an hour later than the others, the first with a more coloured complex again, the latter with a dazed composure that most of them knew from when they just remembered everything. Sungmin had then allowed Henry to become his sire again in order to make him remember. Hangeng had easily sired Shindong in order to give him his actual memories back as well and to take siredom away from Jimin at the same time. The only two to not remember yet were Jungsoo an Hyukjae – one of them kept asleep by Jongwoon, the other being fussed over by Sang Mi.

“You’ve had enough time to say goodbye now, Jimin dear.” Homin then repeated. “This is his life and his decision.” And just like that, those who could sense it saw the tie binding Jungsoo to the woman disappear. Not half a second later Jongwoon sank down on his knees again, clutching at his chest in obvious pain. Misun was next to him in moments, one arm around his shoulders, one hand on his, worriedly asking if he was alright. He seemed to use her voice to focus on and compose himself, because he soon managed a small nod.

Meanwhile Homin had let Jimin lie down next to Jungsoo and ordered her to sleep as well. He then turned around to look at the group of people crowding the not too big living room. “Well..” he then spoke, grin intact on his face. “That was the most fun I’ve had in years!” He looked around the room, but all the grim expressions told him they thought differently. “Oh, cheer up guys. No one died, so you should be happy all ended well.” To that, a growl came and Heechul looked up from where he was crouched next to his still unmoving girlfriend.

“No one died YET.” he then corrected, both his voice and expression set on ‘not amused.’

“Oh don’t worry about her. The venom will lose its power when the sun rises. She’ll be fine. Probably the most unharmed one out of you all.” Homin replied calmly, amusement still obvious.

“Well yoodledeeday.” Heechul mocked, but his shoulders visibly relaxed and he gave his girlfriend’s hand a soft squeeze. “So anyway, mister vampire encyclopaedia…” he then spoke up again. “Who are you exactly and why am I letting you in my house when you’re the sire of the one who had a plot to kill us all? Why should I trust you?”

“Because now that you’re vampires, I have no more reason to harm you. It’s not like your blood tastes any good.” There was a soft chuckle coming from the vampire before he turned serious again, his eyes still glowing that unnerving soft blue. “My name is Homin, or at least it is in this era and region. I’m the oldest vampire you’ll find in the world.”

“That explains your length then.” Heechul huffed. “Or the absence of it. Misun, how do you know this guy? Where did you even find him?” Upon hearing her name, Misun seemed to focus more on the conversation, but she didn’t reply, her eyes still on Jongwoon who didn’t look fine yet. To that, Heechul suddenly jumped up on his feet, looking ready to attack anyone who got in his way. “Is anyone going to tell me what the hell is going on and how we all got here or do I have to kill for that to happen?” he then growled.

“Calm down, Heechul. I’ll explain soon, but you’re not the only one here who worries about someone he loves.” Misun spoke seemingly out of nowhere. She helped Jongwoon up from the ground and guided him to an empty couch, where he sank down with closed eyes. It was only then that she turned to the others, sitting down on the couch’s armrest as she did so. Homin could see how she immediately held everyone’s attention at that moment.

“So…” she started. “Homin’s the one who ordered Jimin to change you all into vampires.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“Say what!? What the hell?” Heechul immediately burst out, getting into a defensive stand. Hangeng was at his side merely seconds later. It didn’t take long for everyone who could to get up and stand next to them, anger visible on their faces as well. Homin remained surprisingly calm under the accusing stares, smiling at them as if Misun had just told them he had given them presents.

“Don’t get worked up, guys.” he said then, his eyes flashing blue for a moment. Immediately the mood in the room calmed down again, the only thing left breaking the silence being the ragged breaths coming from Jongwoon.

“He doesn’t mean any of you any harm.” Misun spoke up at that moment. “At least not anymore. And it was never anything personal.” She smiled lightly, but obviously no one was buying that excuse, even if she was the one giving it.

“How can it not be personal if he changed all of them?” Sang Mi was smart enough to ask at that moment. Homin’s eyes moved to her and the next moment a wave of energy rippled through the room, making the vampire stagger back a few steps. He merely smiled at that, however, his eyes moving from Sang Mi to Hyukjae, expression amused.

“Oh I see you already found your inspiration.” he then spoke. “Well I’m sorry to say this, but she’ll...” Before he could finish that sentence, Hyukjae interrupted with a loud ‘NO!’ that caused the others to turn to him in surprise. His eyes were glowing green again, but this time the colour gradually changed into a dangerous khaki, the darkness of the colour making his irises look like endless pools in the middle of the white.

“It’s true.” Homin continued as if the glare was nothing to worry about. “Ask Shindong, he knows as well. It’s not like I made this up.” Hyukjae didn’t even turn to look at Shindong when the latter nodded, but he seemed to deflate in an instant. At that, Jongwoon, who had eyed it all from the couch with mixed feelings finally spoke up as well.

“So you can order people around, read minds, see the future, control people’s feelings,... Why would I not be surprised if you could also do a load of telepathic crap, then you can do all of what we can.” he stated rather coldly.

“You forgot paralyzing vampires with my venom.” Homin replied to that, grin too amused for the current situation. “And who knows what else I might have passed on without realising it?” To everyone’s surprise it was Kyuhyun speaking up at that.

“So you made her change us to pass on your special abilities which I’m sure every vampire ancient like you has meanwhile gathered?” the young man bit at the older one, eyes cold, expression neutral. “Why not do it yourself? Why get a lapdog?” Jongwoon looked up at his friend for a short moment, before immediately getting up. It seemed like he had heard something in the younger’s voice that no one else had - or they at least didn’t know what it meant.

“Don’t let this get to you, Kyu-yah.” he said softly, although everyone in the room could hear him anyway. “You don’t want to make a mistake now.”

“What do you know about it?” Kyuhyun shouted all of a sudden, which caused Jimin to wake up, sitting up in the blink of an eye and looking at them in confusion. “You...” Kyuhyun immediately hissed upon seeing her. “For hurting my friends and for enslaving my hyung, I will never forgive you. I wish you’d just die.”

“No!” It was finally Homin’s time to lose his cool, but before the word had even left his mouth, Jimin’s eyes glazed over and the next moment she dissolved into ashes. Kyuhyun seemed unaffected by this, his eyes going to Homin as if to single out his next victim, but the elder immediately defended himself with a short “be silent!” that effectively had Kyuhyun shutting his mouth.

The other members, who had been staring at the ashes in shock, now turned their eyes to Kyuhyun and that seemed to throw the second-to-youngest off more than anything. The fire left him as he inched closer to Jongwoon, the one who had been about to stop him if Homin hadn’t been first. It was almost endearing to see the elder put his arms around the younger protectively, but there was no time for such pleasantries. Not really.

“He loved her. What gave you the right to take that away from him?” Jongwoon asked calmly, not a bit of blame in his voice. Homin was about to protest that he didn’t love that woman at all when Kyuhyun answered. “Haerin loved him too. What gave her the right to take him away from her?”

“So you’re just taking revenge? That makes you just as bad as her.” Jongwoon mumbled, still holding the other close, maybe even closer as if he knew what was going to come next.

“I’m already worse than her.” Kyuhyun breathed, but before his emotions could get the best of him, Jongwoon reached out with his power, tied the knots together and gently lulled the other to sleep.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“What gives you the right?” Sang Mi started angrily, her eyes focused on Jongwoon, but Hyukjae stopped her immediately, shutting her up with a single look. She still glared at Jongwoon who was already laying Kyuhyun down on the spot he had previously occupied on the couch. No one moved after that as they all seemed to wait for someone else to start talking, but no one did. The most baffling thing probably was that none of them seemed exceptionally fazed by the death of their once-upon-a-time sire.

“So...” Jongwoon then calmly said. “So far what we’re sure of is that Hyukjae can read minds, Shindong can see the future, Jungsoo can paralyze people with his venom and Kyuhyun can order people around.” he then summed up.

“That’s not a special power, I can do that too.” Heechul immediately protested.

“But can you make them die on command too?” Kangin spoke up then, making Heechul frown.

“I don’t know.” the latter mused at that, before turning to Hangeng on his left. “Geng-ah, drop dead.” The Chinese man immediately proceeded to sink down into a formless heap, making Heechul’s eyes widen in surprise and shock. He immediately moved over to the other man’s side, sinking down on his knees and starting to shake his friend’s shoulders. “Yah! Geng! That was a joke! Come back alive you!” he almost shrieked. It didn’t take long for Hangeng to open his eyes again with a big grin on his face.

“Yah, Kim Heechul, do you really think I’d die for you?” he said, sitting up only to be pushed back down again by the other.

“That was so not funny, Chinaman. I swear one day I’ll really kill you.” Heechul then huffed, getting up to join his girlfriend’s side once more. Li Yin still remained unmoving throughout it all.

“Obviously Heechul and I have nothing.” Hangeng then calmly spoke with the smile still on his face, standing up again and turning to the others. His teasing had obviously lightened the mood.

“I can hear people’s thoughts when they’re connected to me over quite long distances.” Zhou Mi then spoke up. “And apparently I can also send messages over long distances, but that needs some working on.” He grinned slightly.

“I can hear human’s thoughts when I drink their blood for as long as it’s in my veins.” Hyukjae then added to that, one hand on Sang Mi’s arm to keep her from intervening.

“I can make people sleep by taking all their emotions away from them.” Jongwoon spoke up after that, trying to set the example as well. “I can also choose to keep them awake but that takes more effort. Everything Kyuhyun and Jungsoo should feel right now will be felt by me instead. So please be gentle with them.”

“I can see the future, but only the current one. If people have a change of mind, the future will change too, so what I see doesn’t always come true.” Shindong then specified his own power. There was a short silence after that, people eyeing each other to see who’d go next, before Siwon spoke up.

“When I get really upset or angry, I can make heavy storms happen, and people will not be able to get close to me.” he said, his usual calm self still. “There might be more, but I never saw a need to try it out, so I wouldn’t know.” He smiled, looking up at the few members standing straight still. Somewhere along the conversation he had seated himself on the armrest of the couch Li Yin was lying on.

“I can survive without drinking blood.” Henry said all of a sudden. “Not really sure if that’s some power like yours, though.”

“Actually he just can’t drink blood at all. If he tries he pukes everything back out. At first I thought we could all survive without blood and be less strong as a result, but I tried and after a few days I already felt like murdering half a city. Seeing more people with weird abilities, I guess this really is his.” Sungmin added to that, frowning a little. “I myself have none as far as I know.”

“I can see energy lines when one of you uses your powers. I’m also immune to them.” Misun suddenly spoke up at that. “And to Homin’s powers as well. I had no chance so far to test out if it’s because I’m a venger or if it’s part of my power.” She calmly walked over to Jongwoon and intertwined her fingers with his.

“I can become invisible.” Kibum’s voice seemed to come out of nowhere, making everyone look around in surprise when they realised they indeed had no idea where he was. “Well not exactly invisible, people just seem to forget I’m around. I’m right here you know...” At those words, the others finally seemed to find him, leaning against the wall. “And I didn’t really want to say that.”

“I know.” Misun hummed knowingly. “That was Li Yin. She can influence people’s decisions.” Upon hearing his girlfriend’s name, Heechul immediately looked back at her, hoping to find her able to talk to him again.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Li Yin was lying on the couch for a while now, unable to move yet unable to completely shut off from everything as well. She was forced to listen as the others held conversations that were of no use. It wasn’t as if getting angry at Homin was going to change anything. She had been fortunate enough to have not lost her power when she was paralyzed, because the whole fight might have ended differently then. The reason why no one had died was mostly her influence.

First she had made Jimin keep Henry out of the fight, then she had pushed Jongwoon to merely knock out Sungmin and Ryeowook instead of killing them like he had planned to at first. But it hadn’t stopped at that. She made everyone take exactly those decisions that would lead to the least casualties and then there she was, listening to them arguing over that stupid ancient vampire.

It needed only a slight nudge for Kyuhyun to kill the stupid woman. Later on it would take a little more effort to make Jungsoo forget about her, but she would manage. And it was nice to know that whatever happened, at least Heechul would be by her side like he was now. She listened as the scene unfolded, finding every power she got to hear about quite intriguing.

But what was most intriguing was that Kibum obviously didn’t feel like sharing his, staying in the background and merely listening to his friends. So once again it took a little nudging for her to make him speak up, but surprisingly he realised that it wasn’t his own doing. And even more surprisingly she was found out by Misun. It was then that all Heechul’s attention shifted back to her. Everyone’s attention did, actually. She tried to break free from the iron grip that had been holding her for a long time now, but it didn’t work.

“Sunrise is not for a few minutes still.” Homin spoke up at that moment, making her groan inwardly. She then tried once again to break through the barriers, this time using all her strength. Suddenly the weight seemed to be lifted from her and she could feel her limbs responding again. The first thing she did was reach out and take Heechul’s hand, squeezing it softly. His eyes widened and she couldn’t help smiling when he looked at her.

“Hello gorgeous.” she then spoke softly, smiling into the kiss that followed. She could feel the conflict within him and was pleased to see that she needed no urging for him to pick the option where he pulled her into a tight hug.

“You okay?” he whispered then, making her nod slowly. “Oh God I was so worried.” he continued at that, frowning slightly. “Don’t ever do that to me again.”

“Say that to your old friend.” she replied softly, running a hand through his hair before looking up at the others. They had all been obviously watching them, but she didn’t mind showing them her soft side. If Heechul didn’t mind either, that meant there was no reason to feel awkward. Suddenly the silence was interrupted by a choked sob, however, making everyone look for the one crying at that moment, only to find Ryeowook hiding his face in his hands.

“I missed you guys.” he tried to explain himself with a tear-stricken voice. “In the years you all died one by one I really missed you. And now those feelings are all coming back to me. I finally found you again, but we’re standing here like strangers and it feels so WRONG. I don’t really know why I’m crying either, I’m sorry. I just feel so relieved and so disappointed at the same time. Kyuhyun sounds so angry at everything and Jungsoo hyung looks so lifeless. Everyone is so different. I don’t really feel like I found my friends again.”

He sounded so honest and sad that even Li Yin herself felt bad for him. The first to reach the younger, however, was Jongwoon, wrapping his dongsaeng in a tight hug. Henry was there only a split second later, throwing his arms around both his hyungs and squeezing them together.

“Wook-ah. Cute little Wook-ah.” Jongwoon then whispered, his own voice thick with emotions as well. If anyone would understand what it had been like to lose his best friends one by one, it would be those two and Kyuhyun, Li Yin realised, as they had lived the longest and had seen all the others disappear. Of course Ryeowook was the first to crack out of that group, always having been the more emotional one.

Yet the other members had also not forgotten what they had all been about once, and soon the three hugging friends got swarmed by people hugging them. Every awake once-member of Super Junior was eventually dragged into the group hug and Li Yin felt how even Heechul let go of her hand to join in. It was when they had all been standing there in a rare moment of unity that Hyukjae spoke up.

“This is all nice and heart-warming, guys, but why are you involving me in this?”

Misun had acted out of an instinct more than common sense. When Jongwoon had kissed her, she suddenly found all the tiny, desperate shreds of hope jump up from where they had been trampled. Her husband was alive and kicking and he was on her side now. Telling him to break his sire’s power over him had been a long shot, but seeing it work, watching that tie to the cloaked figure snap with the explosion of power, that was something she had even been afraid to dream of. Suddenly she had found her life back and in the euphoria of that moment, she could only kiss him back.

But it didn’t take long for reality to strike her, when she felt the energy in the room shift and almost shivered at the tingly sensation that was Hyukjae’s mind stretching to listen in on others’ thoughts. She let go then, but couldn’t help staring at Jongwoon in awe for a bit longer, a smile tugging up the corners of her mouth. “Later.” she said then, and he repeated the same thing after her, questioningly. “We’ll talk later. Now we have to help our friends.” He nodded to that, turning to look at the situation in the room.

In a corner, Shindong lay limply on the floor, knocked out by the vicinity of Hyukjae’s mental and physical push. Youngwoon, Heechul and Henry were closing in on the cloaked figure, so she immediately shouted at them not to kill him. Her attention was pulled by Hangeng moments later, however, right as the cloaked stranger was sent flying through the room by another one of Hyukjae’s mental hits. It was true that she had told him they’d need him in the battle, but maybe she should’ve also told him to at least be a little careful with the others.

She turned to Hangeng, immediately noticing Li Yin in his arms whose eyes were vivid with rage but who couldn’t move. A ripple of energy already went through the room right at that moment, so she didn’t have time to worry about that. “Hangeng, go take Heechul’s place. Tell him to come here and take care of his girlfriend. They need to go outside with Siwon and Sang Mi.” she told him, motioning Jongwoon to take over Li Yin for a moment. Right then, she could see movement to her right and she looked up to see Sungmin crawl back up on his feet. She was at his side in a blink, helping him up, smiling shortly to show him she was on his side. He was wobbly at first – obviously Jongwoon had not held back – but then stood steady soon after.

“Sungmin, can you take Ryeowook over there outside?” she asked him gently, but with some urge. Behind them she could feel power and energy building up, obviously Hyukjae and the woman were not going soft on each other. “Henry’s safe. He’s back on our side. We need to get out of here if we can. Go!” He obliged to her then, starting to walk away from her to get Ryeowook. She didn’t stay to watch, knowing he would take care of the younger male well.

Instead, she went over to the group holding the stranger. She silently moved to the captive, taking only one look at his eyes to confirm her suspicions. “Youngwoon, Henry, take him outside. Make sure he doesn’t get away. Find Jongwoon and tell him to knock this one out.” she told them, the two taking her orders after a short nod from Hangeng. She then focused on the latter right as a huge blast of energy was reflected by Hyukjae, throwing the woman backwards.

“Where’s Zhou Mi? What the hell is taking him so long?” she growled.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Zhou Mi was sitting on a rock near the entrance of the room in which everything was going on. He felt kind of useless as he watched Misun and the others take their places and move inside, but then focused on the task she had given him. On his left, Kibum shifted uncomfortably and he felt sorry for the younger who was helping people he didn’t even have any actual memories of - except for the ones he made over the past few hours. But then again, Kibum had always been a bit of a martyr no matter what his connection to them.

He closed his eyes then, trying to remember what it was that Misun had told him. He searched for the hidden spot in his mind and then released all his mental energy on it, shouting out a silent plea for help to the one person who might be able to help them now. In the middle of his concentration, a tremble suddenly went through the ground, making him open his eyes. Kibum shrugged at him, a sign that he didn’t have a clue either. They stared at each other for a moment, before he went back to concentrating.

Moments later he trembled again, but he then realised it wasn’t the ground anymore and really him. He tried not to open his eyes this time, simply trying to find focus. What came next was an ice cold feeling at the back of his neck and suddenly he knew he had been heard. The coldness changed to a soft warmth that clouded his mind as he tried to sink away in it. That’s when a sharp pain struck his cheek and he tumbled right back into awareness, eyes opening in shock.

“Get your act together. The ground has stopped trembling by now.” Kibum told him with a roll of his eyes. He remembered hat gesture as something more Heechul-like, not something Kibum would do. “Misun told you to try and find the guy. Are you terribly stupid or do you just pretend to be?” The younger huffed, before his eyes suddenly widened. “You’re getting terribly pale. Fast. Do you need blood? I know it tastes like crap but I can’t offer you any other than mine..” he immediately stated, worry obvious in his voice despite all the annoyance.

“What? No, I’m fine.” he protested, right as he felt something icy slide up his back again. The next moment there was the awareness that something was approaching him and then suddenly a man appeared in front of them, eyes narrowed. Kibum jumped up immediately, but Zhou Mi took hold of the younger’s hand to keep him from attacking. The stranger eyed them for a moment, giving them a pensive look, before suddenly smiling. It was only then that Zhou Mi noticed the eyes glowing a bright blue.

“It’s you.” the stranger spoke then, nodding slightly. “Very nice to see you. You called? Is something going o- Oh my, apparently so. It’s been a long time since I felt energy levels this high. You must all be here. So what’s the problem?” His voice was light and cheerful, as if he wasn’t bothered about Kibum’s hostility at all.

“Misun told me to tell you that your pet went rabid” Zhou Mi relayed the woman’s words, right as several of their friends came out of the holes leading to the underground room. “And if you don’t do something about it, your two pets might just kill each other.” he then added as an afterthought, before another heavy tremble wrecked through his body.

“That was an impressive effort, kid.” the newcomer said upon noticing the shivering. “But next time don’t do more than you can take with your blood level. I suggest you get some blood in your system again before you pass out and make us have to do the job for you.” The man smiled then. “Now let me go get my children out of each other’s hair. Rowdy bunch.” He grinned, before looking at Kibum shortly. “You. While I’m gone, help this one get some blood. After that; remember.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Jongwoon, Siwon, Heechul, Sang Mi and Li Yin reached their two friends right as the unfamiliar man entered the room. Sungmin and Ryeowook came out right at that moment as well, but paid him no attention. The whole group gathered around the two who had been there all along, expecting to find their answers there.

“Who was that?” Heechul managed to ask while fussing over his still immobilised girlfriend. Siwon and Sang Mi however, immediately added an interested: “Was that him?” Zhou Mi nodded, eyes seeming unfocused and distant.

“I need to feed.” he said then as he got up. Immediately Kibum did so as well, hovering around the other and sending suspicious glares into the dark forest. It seemed for a moment that Siwon was going to say something, but Kibum cut him off with a “You all stay here, we’ll be okay.” that seemed reasonable enough. The next moment the model and the redhead disappeared into the forest. Siwon watched them go with a frown, but no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn’t follow them at that moment to make sure they were alright.

“God damn it, I swear I’m going to kill that woman.” Heechul suddenly cursed, when nothing he did seemed to make Li Yin able to move again. What caught his eye next was Henry and Youngwoon dragging the cloaked stranger towards them; the one who had put his girlfriend in her uncomfortable position to begin with. He immediately stalked over to them, but luckily Hangeng came out of the room as well, intercepting his seething friend before he could attack the cloaked vampire.

Heechul growled as his chest slammed against Hangeng’s unmovable arm, but he would never go against his friend’s better judgement. That didn’t help him from glaring at the stranger as he was dragged closer. “Get that…whatever it is out of my girlfriend! If she’s not moving like a normal person in five seconds I’m going to go back inside, get that deranged little sire-lady of yours and tear her apart in front of your eyes. And you’ll come next.” Heechul’s eyes were a vivid red, his rage obvious, but the cloaked stranger merely let out a hoarse laugh, unimpressed.

“Nothing I can do about her.” he croaked, voice cold and hard. “The effect will wear off one day, I guess. I don’t really know since no one’s ever survived it long enough to test that.” He grinned at those words, his eyes sparkling with a fighting spirit that rivalled Heechul’s, but his aura was three times as cold. Heechul roared in rage and lashed out at the guy, but Hangeng quickly pushed him backwards so they couldn’t harm each other.

“Jongwoon, put that one asleep.” he meanwhile ordered the vampire who had silently watched the whole conversation. “And maybe you could calm Chul down a little or something? He’ll need his common sense when Misun comes back out.” The appointed vampire didn’t move, but suddenly Henry yawned and not long after Heechul seemed to calm down a bit too. Jongwoon sighed then, calmly walking closer to his previous sire. The wicked expression in the other’s eyes didn’t bother him, but the things he might possibly find behind the facial mask did. And when he calmly tore the cloth aside, they all gasped in shock.

There, in front of their eyes, sat Jungsoo. Wicked grin, dangerous eyes, but still Jungsoo. Said vampire suddenly growled from deep down in his throat and tried to bite Jongwoon, but luckily the latter was faster. In the blink of an eye, the murderous ex-leader of their group went limp and he would’ve face-planted himself onto the ground if it weren’t for his two captors still holdings his arms in a secure grip. No one spoke anymore, everyone was staring at their passed out leader.

“Well…” Siwon suddenly mumbled, making all of them look up at him. “That was unexpected.” He smiled mirthlessly, but even that soon died away as he frowned at his friends.

“Not really.” Hangeng then interjected. “Misun obviously knew about this.” He huffed, but didn’t seem as offended as Heechul, who let out an annoyed growl. “Misun obviously knows about a lot of things, but she refuses to let others know about them too.” he grumpily stated. “Like how that piece of weird over there apparently is her husband.” His flaming eyes went to Jongwoon who was still staring at Jungsoo’s unmoving body, but none of them had expected the look of utter pain on his face as he sank down on his knees next to the leader.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Jimin frowned as she found herself unable to move any of her limbs anymore. When she realised what the reason for that probably was, her eyes went wide and she desperately started fighting against the invisible bounds that held her. It was of no use. She was powerless against this enemy. The only comfort she had was that Hyukjae seemed to be in the same situation as her, standing just as frozen a mere few metres away from her.

But she didn’t get much time to celebrate that fact, as right then the owner of the voice that had called her stepped into view. She froze, even more than because of the previously given order. The glowing blue eyes were so vivid they made her want to cringe away. They were like a constant reminder of how everything started, how her world was turned upside down that one fateful night when she had been on her way home from a concert she had always wanted to see.

Ironic how her biggest dream had turned into her biggest nightmare in the end. All because they left her waiting at an exit for hours only to never see anyone show up there. She had been disappointed, hurt mostly, as she started on her way home, and then there was an alley where eyes glowed blue and purple and her innocence was taken away from her. Pain had been very present that night. And an excruciating hatred for those who had been the reason for her to walk through that alley at such late hours.

She had never forgiven them for it. In fact, she had forced them into the nightmare with her. It didn’t take that much effort, just some sabotaging and a few bites here and there. Pushing Kangin off a cliff during his army service, sabotaging Leeteuk, Eunhyuk and Shindong’s car when coming home from a show recording, plucking Donghae out of his apartment and making it look like suicide, attacking Kyuhyun after the burial of his friends, making Hangeng and Zhou Mi’s plane crash on their way back to China, surprising Kibum and Siwon after one of their many church services, ‘saving’ Heechul during the unexpected shooting where he almost died, pulling Ryeowook out of the composing studio after it exploded, changing Sungmin while he was on one of his mountain climbing trips and lastly attacking Henry on one of his walks through the forest.

But not Jongwoon. Not Jongwoon with his pregnant wife and his cute smile. Not Yesung who had stolen her heart from day one with his gorgeous voice. And now look at her. That same Jongwoon died in a car accident not much later and Jungsoo only barely made it in time to change him. That same Jongwoon planned for ten years to find his friends and destroy whoever brought this upon them after she gave him Kyuhyun as company.

She wanted nothing more than to kill all of them now, kill the stupid little excuses for men that they were. But maybe she would spare Jungsoo, who had stayed by her side even when she allowed him to go. Jungsoo who loved her despite everything. Even though he didn’t say it with quite that many words, she heard it in his voice and felt it in his touches.

“Jimin.” that dreadful voice then spoke, interrupting her thoughts, reducing her to a scared mess again. “So many years and you’re still angry? So many years and still so much hate.” There was a hand put on her shoulder that strangely comforted her, made her want to hide away in those arms, despite knowing who was behind them. She heard herself wail slightly and the next moment the arms did wrap around her. She hid in them like a scared little girl.

“Jimin, dear, there’s no need to be angry at them. They did nothing wrong. If you want to be angry, I should be on the receiving end.” She hummed something distantly agreeing, not really caring what he was talking about but just wanting him to hold her tight. She allowed her mind to be overwhelmed by the presence of her sire.

“Hyukjae..” that same voice then spoke a name she hated so much, even though she didn’t quite remember anymore why now. “Relax. No one’s going to hurt you anymore except for yourself. If you keep this mindreading thing up, your head will hurt a lot later on.” Jimin wasn’t exactly sure how or what, but she could feel the air going thinner, as if released from a huge energy. The next moment a silent order reached her and she sank away into sleep not long after.

“We don’t really have time to explain, Sang Mi.” Hyukjae spoke up softly, reaching out a hand to her that she easily took, moving closer to him almost instinctively. Her expression remained questioning however.

“And why is it that you, a random vampire, know more about vengers than I, someone who has worked at the facility for years and whose friend apparently is one of those vengers?” she stated with a pout, making Hyukjae chuckle and nudge her cheek with his nose. That set them off in a series of smiles and weird faces that made everyone present – aside from Misun – frown at them.

“Hello, we’re in the middle of a crisis situation here.” Kibum said with a snort. “I can’t believe none of us even noticed Shindong suddenly sneaking off. He’s such a background character. I’m surprised the evil woman even noticed he was here. Anyway. How are we going to take on that witch? I assume you’re not up for letting her have those few in there and running off? No? Too bad. So let’s make up a fighting plan instead of being lovey-dovey with each other.”

“Leave them be, Kibum.” Misun spoke up again, putting a hand on his shoulder. “They’re blood bound, they can’t help it.” Immediately the two froze in their movements, turning to look at Misun with similar frowns.

“We are what?” Sang Mi frowned in surprise. “Last time I checked we were not family? At least I don’t remember having a famous signer from fifteen years ago somewhere in my family tree.” Her words were honest and Hyukjae nodded in agreement as if he had any clue what she was talking about.

“Blood bound, Sang Mi.” Misun repeated calmly. “The only blood Hyukjae has drank since he came to the facility was yours. You’re connected now. I figured it out earlier when Henry attacked and his eyes went green again. Back in the facility they glowed green when he thought I might be a threat to you, just now they did again when Henry formed a threat to you. His gift self-activates when he’s afraid you’ll get hurt. I’m pretty sure he has no idea how else to work them, Hyukjae?” Her eyes travelled to the vampire in question, who shrugged.

“I drink people’s blood and hear their thoughts. I had no clue my eyes glow green when I do, but it has happened during those two instances indeed. Back in the facility when I mentally threw Siwon into a wall I was actually pushing his voice out of my mind.” he explained calmly, as if he wasn’t the most interesting vampire Misun had ever heard about.

“That’s what I thought.” Misun stated calmly. “Who is your sire, Hyukjae?” The question obviously carried a lot of importance, because Hyukjae visibly stiffened and took his arms from around Sang Mi, slowly straightening up. “I’m not threatening you.” Misun spoke up again, trying to calm him down in case he felt cornered. “I’m just curious. I can see you’re not unbound, but you haven’t ran off yet, so I’m guessing you’ve gotten a new sire after you were created, I’m just curious as to who that might be.”

His eyes travelled over the people present; Hangeng, Zhou Mi, Kibum, Siwon and Sang Mi, until they finally stopped at Misun again. “I don’t remember.” he then said. “But it’s not that woman they’re talking about because I can’t feel her close.” His eyes seemed to pierce Misun’s when he finished talking, but then he turned away, wrapping an arm around Sang Mi again as if she was going to help calm his raging heart down.

Misun chuckled at that. “Sang Mi, Hyukjae, we’re going to need you on that battlefield.” she then said. Her expression was calm, her voice amused but determined.

“You’re planning something, Misun.” Hangeng interrupted at that point. “If we’re going to make any of this happen, we’re going to have to work together on it.” He was obviously not at all surprised by how the conversation had been going so far. It seemed they were all used to losing track of subjects. Or maybe the events during the past days were surprising enough to not be surprised anymore about anything at all.

Misun chuckled again at that, inclining her head. “Okay, so here’s what we’re going to do...”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“You know that if you hurt her any more than that scratch, you’re going to die for sure, right?” Heechul stated calmly, keeping a tight hold on his composure. It was obvious that he was really going to explode if she would ever dare to hurt another hair on Li Yin’s head. It was even more obvious that he was close to releasing his anger anyway, regardless of how Li Yin was treated.

“It’s not like there’s anything you can do for her, Chullie.” the woman replied, sounding insane more than anything else. Donghae slowly edged over to Heechul’s side, but kept a certain distance in order to not end up in the middle of his enraged line of fire. “But don’t worry, I won’t hurt your pretty little girlfriend. I have some other people to torture while you can watch.” the woman then continued. “Jongwoon, dear, take down that brat.”

Jongwoon started moving, rolling Kyuhyun and him over so he had the upper hand. He tugged the both of them on their feet, raising a hand for the attack. “Stop right there, Jongwoon.” another female voice suddenly interrupted and Donghae’s head snapped to the side to look at the owner. A familiar looking woman gently jumped down through the hole Shindong had created in the roof, landing on the floor with a soft thud. To everyone’s surprise, Jongwoon actually stopped moving, his head turning ever so slowly in the woman’s direction, eyes unfocused.

“Jongwoon, what are you doing?” the evil woman shrieked. “I told you to take that brat down! Why are you staring at her? Listen to me!” But the woman who came down merely smiled, her eyes dancing with something Donghae could not define.

“With what power are you trying to command him?” she asked, voice mildly amused. “You’re not his sire, nor the one he loves, as you so desperately seem to claim.” She grinned then, revealing two threatening fangs. “Jongwoon, love, you know you are able to; break the bond with your sire. You don’t want to be sent to kill me after Kyuhyun’s down.” Her smile became even more amused. “In fact; you and I both know you don’t want to take Kyuhyun down either. Let go of him and come over here.” She lifted a hand, reaching it out to him with the palm upwards.

For a moment Jongwoon seemed to hesitate, his hands still holding Kyuhyun tightly, but then his grip slacked, and as he turned and walked towards the unfamiliar woman, the stranger who still held on to Li Yin let out a snarl and took a step back. Suddenly the air went thick with pure energy, time coming to a halt for a mere second, before it exploded with such intensity that all who did not see it coming were thrown back a step or two. The only ones still standing when it was over were the unknown woman, Jongwoon and Heechul. Even the witch had been hit by it.

Donghae quickly crawled back up on his feet, looking around quickly to see Youngwoon and Shindong thrown against the furthest wall, still holding each other’s throats, ready to attack, Heechul still glaring at the stranger holding Li Yin and Jongwoon mere steps away from the still familiar looking woman. He quickly made his way over to Kyuhyun, helping him back up on his feet and linking their arms together again.

“Something seriously crazy is going on here. I suggest we stay out of it and go find Hangeng gege and get our friends the hell out of these mad women’s claws.” Kyuhyun, however, shook his head shortly in disagreement.

“No.” he protested. “That one over there is Misun. I’m not exactly sure what she just did, but she’s on our side.” Donghae raised an eyebrow, to which Kyuhyun smiled, calmly nodding in the direction of their hyung. When Donghae turned to look at Jongwoon, he could see him in a passionate kiss with the woman, obviously not at all caring that one of the most vicious female vampires alive looked ready to kill. “Misun is his wife.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Soft touches at the edge of his mind made him shiver. There was a slight feeling of recognition, but it faded away not long after, as the female voice in his head became more prominent. He didn’t know what made him stick around Jimin, but he felt a great need to protect her, nurture her, love her. He had to make sure she was alright, because she cared about him enough to keep him around, while she had sent everyone else away. He believed in that, he had to because it was all he had lived for up till that moment and all that would keep him going.

“It’s dangerous to stay here.” he mumbled, tightening his grip on the girl in his arms and nudging her forward, as if to show their enemies how he controlled them all, how he held the reason they were not moving any closer. “You have to get out of here.” His voice was pleading. He knew that if she stayed, she would lose the fight. With the way that Jongwoon kid had broken his siredom just like that, he was sure there was no way to win this thing anymore.

“No way in hell I’m getting out of here.” she bit back at him. “We’ll show them what I’m made of. That girl you hold there; she’s of no use to us. Kill her.” He bowed his head slightly, ready to abide to her orders, but then suddenly whirled around, his hand catching the second intruder who he hadn’t noticed before due to the energy blast. It was another girl, slender, not very tall, obviously human. Immediately his eyes flashed to a vivid red, thirst clenching at his throat. His orders were not to kill, but surely his sire wouldn’t mind him having a snack in between, right?

His fangs lengthened, he could taste the blood already, the memory of that irony taste so vivid it made him go for her throat. All his senses were focused on that neck, the blood pulsating through the vulnerable veins, nothing in his way. Until movement made him look up, right in time to see his sire’s only other pet left jumping in front of him and catching the blow that was meant for him. He watched the guy – whatever his name was – get brushed aside like a mere nuisance and then he came eye to eye with two fiery bolts of glowing green.

“I suggest you let go of her.” a lethal voice hissed at him, those eyes never leaving his face. The next moment he felt someone taking the immobilised girl away from him, but he kept his tight grip on his new prey’s arm, not planning on giving up good food just like that.
“Why are you standing there like that? Take him down!” Jimin suddenly called to him and he felt his body letting go of his prey after all, turning and grabbing at the green eyed fellow in front of him. He was too slow, however, the green eyes leaving his sight the moment Jimin took hold of the girl he had just let go of. Three other vampires quickly took the place of the first one to prevent him from attacking mister green eyes. He recognised the one called Chullie, the one Jimin’s second pet had been fighting with earlier and the one they had caught at the very beginning – Henry he believed the kid’s name was.

“Don’t kill him!” the woman that had taken his own pet from him moments before suddenly called out. “Heechul, Youngwoon, mark my words, you’re going to regret it if you do. Don’t kill him.” He snorted at that. As if these three weak kids were ever going to be able to kill him. Surprisingly enough, they didn’t turn out to be the threat, because the next moment he felt himself flying through the air, hit by something invisible. He only barely avoided the wall and landed on his feet. Almost immediately the three were on him again, pinning him down to the ground.

And then there was a scream, piercing through his heart, head and body. He recognised the energy because he had lived with the woman for the past fourteen years, and so directly feeling the pain or fear she obviously felt made him curl up into a ball, wanting to do anything to make it stop. But when it did stop, he felt empty, more empty than ever, and when he closed his eyes to try and reach Jimin’s mind, all he could see in it were glowing green eyes.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Hyukjae stared at the woman in front of him. He had picked up on her thoughts and they were not nice. In fact, he was pretty sure the only one with worse thoughts than her was the man she so lovingly referred to as her precious pet all the time. He felt a growl rise up from his throat as he looked up at her, saw the realisation that he was alone hit her. And then she panicked. The amount of power suddenly radiating around her was incredible, her expression settling back to a confident one now that she had control over such an invisible force. She was powerful enough to take all of them now, or at least she thought so. He knew better.

“Hyukjae.” she named him, but he wasn’t impressed. “Very interesting set of eyes you got there.” He grinned, his fangs clearly in view as he did so. Suddenly a different set of thoughts struck him and he repelled the owner once he saw his friends’ faces in the angry mind. The image of him in the woman’s mind changed slightly, his eyes flashing to a glowing red for that instant in which he felt anger and hate. “Very interesting indeed.” she murmured. But behind the words he could hear, see, all her thoughts. Her fear had doubled. Part of her was set on getting him on her side, another part of her was silently screaming for help, but the one she was trying to reach was unable to get to her.

“I’m not going to let you hurt her.” he growled, leaning in closer. It silenced the constant scream in her mind and filled her thoughts with images of his glowing green eyes. He saw his face change into someone else’s in her mind. “If you have business, it is with me.” Her grin became amused, even though her mind was still filled with conflicting emotions. But suddenly her eyes flickered to someone on his left. “And me.” Siwon’s recognisable voice then spoke up from next to him.

“Quite the pair you are.” the woman stated in reply to that. “Quite the pair..” She chuckled, releasing her grip on her power slightly. They could feel the effect almost instantly, being thrown back a few steps and tingling all over. Her fingers curled around Sang Mi’s vulnerable shoulders a little tighter. “I’ll have a blast fighting you all, finally making you pay for what you’ve all done to me.” Her words made no sense to Hyukjae, but he could see the truth in her mind.

An ocean of people, of blue, music, chanting, people streaming towards the exit. Then dozens of people huddled together at a seemingly deserted doorway, waiting for something – someone. It was followed by grave disappointment, people going home without ever seeing those they waited for. What followed was an alley, coldness, glowing purple eyes that bore into hers right before pain started seeping through her body and everything went black.

“It wasn’t our fault.” he stated, watching the surprise spread from her mind to her expression. “W didn’t know he would be there. We didn’t know he would try to kill you in that alley. You have no reason to blame us, we were simply doing our job; singing, dancing.” He had no idea what the hell he was talking about, but he knew it made sense because he saw doubt starting to form. “We didn’t pick the exit we left from, so you have no reason to blame us.” He could see her considering his words, weighing them off one by one as if judging them, but in the end her hate won from the doubt. Several years of dying away in the vampire life much more powerful than the small seed of doubt he had planted.

He knew it was coming before she did, immediately reaching out to take hold of Siwon’s arm, his other hand reaching out to capture Sang Mi. The next moment they were all sent flying through the room as a wave of power hit them. He felt Sang Mi’s frail body crash into his, wrapping his arm securely around her as he made sure they all landed on their feet. He passed the girl to Siwon in a blink, immediately moving towards the woman again so she couldn’t run away.

“You’re smart. I have to give that to you, Hyukjae.” she said as calmly as possible. But he felt the spar of fear before she repressed it again. “Haven’t changed a bit since I last saw you. Even that stupid gummy smile of yours is still present. Time for a change, don’t you think?” She lashed out once again. This time the wave of power was more concentrated, meant only for him, but he repelled it with everything he had and she was the one to fly backwards then.

“Hyukjae, Jimin, stop that.” an unfamiliar male voice then ordered and the next moment Hyukjae felt himself freeze in his movements, his body unwillingly responding to his sire’s order.

They had no clue what was going on. The black cloaked guy was still holding Li Yin and it was obvious she would not stay alive much longer if he noticed his sire was in danger. But the woman, who had seemed so dangerous mere moments ago, now looked completely harmless, almost openly crying in front of Jongwoon. There were eight of them, ready to attack, ready to get their friends out of this woman’s grip, but none of them were able to move, having no clue of what to think of her sudden change in behaviour.

Jongwoon seemed to be unsure of the woman’s identity himself. He was studying her intently, trying to figure out if he was supposed to know her yet had forgotten, but there was nothing familiar about her. Not even when he changed the red eyes for brown ones in his mind. She was completely unknown to him. He looked over her shoulder for a moment, trying to find answers on his friends’ faces, but they all looked just as baffled as he felt. His gaze went to the last figure in the room, the stranger. Amber coloured eyes locked with blood red ones, and something seemed to click in his mind.

The next moment he reached out, took hold of the woman’s arm and pulled her towards him in a hug. He wrapped his arms protectively around her body, stroking her back comfortingly as she trembled against him. It didn’t take long for her to relax again in his grip, however, and once she did, he slowly let go. She looked up at him then, with those blood red eyes that sent shivers through his spine, but there was something in her expression, something soft and caring, that filled him with trust. He was sure she wouldn’t harm him. Like he was sure he wouldn’t harm her.

And that’s when it hit him. But when he opened his mouth to shout the warning to his friends, there was no sound, and soon his mouth closed again, as if he had decided not to speak after all. He kept looking at the woman as she slowly started smiling, and then reached out a hand to cup his face. He felt himself lean into that touch, starting to smile back and mumbling something of which he didn’t quite know what it was himself. It sounded like a language he had never learned to speak or understand.

When he looked up again with a smile, he saw his friends eyeing him with questioning expressions, but had no way to explain it to them as his mouth wasn’t cooperating with his mind. In fact, no part of his body was cooperating with his mind. He could only watch as the woman walked up to the cloaked figure and soon he was following after her. He almost automatically took hold of her hand as his eyes found Li Yin’s, exchanging silent messages like that. When he finally realised what she wanted from him, he calmly lifted his head and looked at the cloaked figure.

That’s when something hit him, rippling through his body from all the way down from his toes up to his skull. He had to clench his teeth not to gasp for air at the sensation, but the movement was noticed by the woman anyway, who smiled at him. “Jongwoon, my dearest.” she said softly, so softly that he was sure none of the others would be able to hear it. The words were meant just for him. “You were never supposed to be a part of this, but you’re all I have. I’m very sorry, my dear, my love. Once this is over we’ll be back together, I promise you. Nothing will keep us apart anymore.”

He felt relief wash over him, the feeling so heavy that it brought tears to his eyes. Tears of happiness. Tears of finally having found what he had unconsciously always been looking for. “Sweetie.” he spoke then, the word soft, slipping over his lips as he reached out a hand and cupped her face with it. He looked at her with loving eyes for a moment, before turning away from her. The murmured ‘I’m sorry’ reached no one but Li Yin, and then he suddenly shot forward, throwing himself at one of his best friends from back in the day, arms wrapping themselves in a headlock around Sungmin’s neck.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Hyukjae slowed down when Misun did, Siwon on his right doing the same. Just as he wanted to ask exactly where they had arrived, a man walked up to them from the distance, and the next moment Siwon shot forward, crying out a surprisingly excited ‘Hangeng gege!’ They could witness how Siwon enveloped Hangeng in a hug that was so genuine and caring it was as if two old friends had met after a long time. Little did Hyukjae know that that was actually the case, because it was still a mystery to him how Siwon had made such a 180 degrees change.

“Nice to see you again, Siwon.” the vampire called Hangeng calmly stated, patting the other on the back. “Nice to see we’ve both gotten our memories back too.” He smiled at that, letting go of Siwon and turning to Misun. Those two exchanged a hug too, and to Hyukjae’s surprise, held on to each other for quite a long time. In the end, when Hangeng let go, he sent her a small smile and then turned around. “You can come out, guys, they’re the ones I was waiting for.” he called out softly, making two other vampires show themselves, slowly walking up to the group.

“Shindong.” Misun immediately said upon seeing the left one, and when her eyes fell on the right one, she smiled even wider. “Kibum.” The happiness and care that radiated from her were unmistakeable for Hyukjae, but the next moment they died down again, when Hangeng commented that neither of the two had any actual recollection of their memories.

“We know of ways to regain the memories, however, but Henry was kidnapped and Sungmin was dead set on rescuing him, so now the other ones are out there doing exactly that.” Hangeng explained further. “With the two you brought we have all fifteen gathered now. It’s a miracle, but we’re all here.” Suddenly Misun stilled, eyes going to Hangeng’s face, frown creasing her forehead.

“You’re ALL here?” she asked, stressing the word as if it was of great importance. When Hangeng nodded, she seemed to be unsure of what to do for a moment, but Sang Mi saved her from that by waking up right then. As she stirred, Hyukjae gently let her slide off his back, turning around in the blink of an eye to wrap his arms around her so she wouldn’t fall. The human blinked, rubbing her eyes and looking up at him. Almost immediately a smile formed on her face, showcasing her innocence to the world. But then she finally noticed the others, cringing away into his arms when she realised there were people she didn’t know.

“Sang Mi..” Hangeng spoke softly upon seeing she had noticed them. He sent her a gentle smile. “You might not remember me,..” he started, but her surprised squeal cut him off. It only took a moment for her to regain her composure. “Hangeng oppa.” she whispered, staring at him with wide eyes. “You used to look after me when I first arrived at the facility eight years ago. But you suddenly disappeared when I was appointed as a nurse.” She stared in awe. “You haven’t changed at all.”

“Well you have. You’ve grown into a fine young woman.” he replied, smile set on his face as he took a step closer. Hyukjae took it as his cue to let go of her and the two old friends did indeed fall into a hug once he did.

“Do you know anything about Yin unnie?” Sang Mi then asked. “Is she still working for the facility? Have you heard from her after they made the two of us part?” Hangeng nodded to that and smiled. “In fact…” he started, but before he could finish that, he was once again interrupted when a tall, red-haired vampire stumbled into their midst, barely keeping himself from crashing into Siwon.

“Li Yin is immobilised and the witch has Jongwoon hyung in her power now.” he blurted out in almost too fast Korean. “He took down Sungmin and Ryeowook before we could react. Heechul sent me back to tell you that he thinks she’s our first sire, the one who changed us all. Anyone who doesn’t remember getting a new sire since then might be under her control.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Donghae was eyeing the situation cautiously. His left arm was hooked into Kyuhyun’s, both consciously aware of each other. He was grateful that Jongwoon had at least been truthful enough about giving up siredom over Kyuhyun as they went to the scene, because otherwise they’d have lost another one to the woman. But nothing was certain anymore now. They had no idea who of the others might possibly be under her control without them knowing. Sungmin and Ryeowook were out, of course, as Jongwoon had taken them down already. The woman wouldn’t let him take out people that she could use to fight them off. But out of the rest of them; no one was certain anymore.

Then again, Ryeowook had only recently given up his siredom over Youngwoon and there was no way the woman had taken it since then. Heechul’s sire was Zhou Mi, just like it was so the other way around. But if one of those two got taken… Well, those were worries for later. Right now they had to deal with a rabid Jongwoon, a stranger who could kill Li Yin in an instant and a woman who was obviously mentally disturbed. And had a bad case of mood swings.

“So, Heechul, still have the nerve to call me a bitch now?” she spoke up right then. “Two of your friends are down and there’s nothing you can do about it.” Her smile was almost vicious as she wrapped her arms around Jongwoon’s neck, barely keeping herself from kissing him right there, or so it seemed. It may have been something strange to think, but Donghae was pretty sure Jongwoon was actually liking it. Had he always been on her side? Had he always just pretended?

Suddenly he felt something incredibly off and he looked at Youngwoon just in time to see the roof crash down on him, a surprisingly familiar image on top of it. “Shindong’s one of hers!” he immediately yelled as the two strongest of their team went at each other once Youngwoon broke free from underneath the bricks of roof. Heechul merely nodded, keeping his eyes focused on the woman. “And Henry’s still not in sight.” Kyuhyun suddenly added to his words. “He’s one of hers too.”

“Soon you’ll all be mine again. Like you’re supposed to be. Three down, nine to go.” the woman grinned a wicked grin at them, but the only reaction she got was one of Heechul’s trademark smirks.

“I’m sorry.. Have you never learned how to count or are you just stupid?” he countered coolly. Right then, he suddenly twirled around on his feet, lashing out to the wall next to him and punching a hole in it. “Last time I checked there’s only eight of us here.”

It was then that Donghae realised there were a lot of things he had missed in his hyung’s life. The insanity shining through in Heechul’s eyes could hardly be because of a few years of vampirism. Or could it? A snarl coming from Kyuhyun made him duck right in time to evade Shindong who had been sent flying through the room by Youngwoon, the latter following right behind for a next attack. Donghae didn’t doubt that she would sent either Jongwoon or the stranger at them soon. It was obvious that she wasn’t going to get into a fight herself unless when terribly angered.

Right then, Jongwoon started to move and Kyuhyun was already unlinking their arms to meet him in the middle. The two crashed into each other with a sound that rivalled that of Heechul punching the wall, the maknae surprisingly not coming out as the weaker one. Jongwoon was in fact the one to fall to the ground first, Kyuhyun right on top of him. But suddenly everything seemed to freeze when Heechul let out a vicious snarl and looking up, Donghae noticed why.

“One more move and your girlfriend dies, Chullie.” the woman spoke up again her nail already having drawn blood from a small scratch Li Yin’s neck.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“Watch out!” Hangeng suddenly warned, right as a shape jumped into their midst. The first to respond surprisingly was Hyukjae, leaving his position next to Sang Mi to dive onto the attacker. His eyes were glowing green again, his face threateningly close to the attackers. It was then that Hangeng, Siwon and Misun all let out surprised noises. Hyukjae, however, slowly leaned back, the green of his eyes flickering and then seemingly dying out again.

“He’s doing this against his will.” he stated then. “Who is this?” He turned to Misun, his hands still tightly holding the attacker down, his knee pushing on the other’s chest.

“That’s Henry.” Kibum surprisingly was the one to speak up. “He’s in that woman’s grip. Find the right spot to bite him. We need to take siredom back.”

“It’s on my lower arm.” Henry suddenly spoke up. “She told me to attack, not to stay silent.” he then continued to explain when their surprised faces came into view. “I was the last one of us she turned. She made me remember everything when Sungmin hyung ran off. Okay just bite me, please, she’s going to make me kill you.” Hyukjae seemed too dazed to do anything about it, but Kibum was there in an instant, lifting up Henry’s sleeve and piercing his arm with his fangs right as Henry reached out to Hyukjae to attack him.

They all seemed to freeze, wondering if it would work out, but Kibum lifted his head moments later with a small smile. “You are a dry cookie, Henry-ssi.” he commented calmly and the younger vampire sent him a smile. “Kibum hyung.” He acknowledged, before starting off in a few lines of English that no one but the two of them understood. The next moment Kibum was up on his feet again, pulling Hyukjae back so Henry could get up too.

“Okay, Kibum, give Henry his free will back. What’s the status, Zhou Mi? You said she had Jongwoon knock out Sungmin and Ryeowook?” Hangeng then spoke up, taking the lead once again. Kibum did as told, whereas Zhou Mi nodded in response.

“Shindong’s one of hers too.” Henry then commented. “I could feel my tie to her and her tie to both him and that pet vampire of hers.”

“And Jongwoon.” Siwon suddenly stated, but Henry shook his head.

“No, Jongwoon’s sired by the pet, not by her. Neither of them hold siredom over the girl they’re having hostage, though, but that pet has the ability to make immobilise other vampires with his venom.” he explained. “I didn’t catch much of her, though. She’s got an immense power stocked up inside of her but I’m pretty sure that she has no idea how to use it. She might lose control over it when she’s angry, though.”

“So she’s got immense power, her pet can immobilise people, she has Shindong who can foresee the future and Jongwoon who can put people asleep and who knows what else.” Hangeng summed up then. “So basically we’re screwed.”

“Not so fast, Hangeng dear. You’re forgetting a few things here. First of all; that pet might have immobilised Li Yin, but she’s not a full vampire, she’s a venger. There’s more to her than meets the eye, we just need a way to make her realise that. Secondly; she might have three vampires with special gifts, but she doesn’t know about two of them. Lastly; we also have some tricks up our sleeves. I do think a mind reader counts for something and are you so kindly forgetting that we have Heechul on our side still? There’s nothing she can do about him even when she manages to

“But she’s got Li Yin.” Zhou Mi contradicted her. “And Heechul’s rather desperate right now, he’s sending me flashes of the scene. They’re powerless because she threatened to kill Yin. Kyuhyun’s fighting Jongwoon and Youngwoon’s up against Shindong, but they’re both going to have to back off or Li Yin will die.”

“Can someone tell me what the hell a venger is and who is trying to kill my friend.” Sang Mi suddenly meddled in, making everyone remember she was there too.
