Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 6/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

“Hurry up! It’s almost our turn!” Selene said to her friend, urging her to start moving.

“You’ve got to be kidding me..” Afreya only mumbled, still sitting on her chair, not paying any attention to her friend whatsoever. “You tell me last minute that half of Super Junior, SHINee and 2AM will be there and then you expect me to just be calm as we enter the stage and will stand right in front of them?”

With a deep sigh, Selene simply grabbed her friend’s arm and dragged her out of the waiting room to get ready behind the scenes, thereby cutting off any further complaints that were going to come. It had been four months since her date with Hyukjae and they had been together for about three months. He had encouraged her to go to Star King with Afreya, competing with their big knowledge of languages. She hadn’t really seen the use in it, but Afreya had been fully up for it, so there they were, waiting for Kang Ho Dong to finish his introduction and call them out. Which was only moments later.

“The Japanese interpreters!” he called and the door slid open. They were pushed forward to walk out on the stage, which Selene did without any hesitation. Afreya followed right next to her, but she obviously didn’t feel very great. Just to be a little help for her friend, Selene reached out for Afreya’s hand, giving it a little squeeze to reassure her everything would be fine. They looked at each other a moment, smiled softly and then stopped in the middle of the Star King stage. Ho Dong immediately walked towards them, as well as Leeteuk and Hyukjae. Seeing those two meanwhile well-known people seemed to calm Afreya down even more.

“Hello.” Ho Dong said. Selene smiled and bowed, which made Ho Dong make a strange face and everyone else laugh and clap. “You girls are from Japan?”

“Yes.” they both replied using Korean for the time being.

“Can you introduce yourselves?”

“Hello everyone, I’m Selene Miyake.”

“And my name is Afreya Takahashi.”

“And why did you come here on Star King?” Ho Dong went on asking.

“Because my boyfriend encouraged me to do it. He said it would be cool for us to get on the show and show people that learning multiple languages is surely possible if you just put some effort in it. I didn’t really have much free time, but Afreya was completely up for it, so I thought to myself; why not give it a try? And so here we are.” Selene explained.

“Oh you have a boyfriend?” Ho Dong seemed immediately interested, but she only nodded in response, making sure that her eyes didn’t move to Hyukjae. He was standing on their right, with Leeteuk next to him, while Ho Dong was on their left, just like all the other guests were, only they were a little further away. While looking over the group, her eyes suddenly met with one of the male guests. He was sitting there, smiling, but he seemed to be a little bored. Yet, when they looked at each other, his face brightened with a more genuine smile.

“So how many languages can you speak?” Ho Dong went on with the conversation. She immediately looked back at him, acting as if there had been nothing special she was looking at.

“Well I mostly concentrated on Asian languages during our studies and Afreya concentrated on European languages. We both speak Japanese and English well and Afreya also speaks a bit of Korean, although not that much. Apart from those I also speak Chinese, Thai and some local Indian dialects.” she calmly explained. There were gasps of surprise coming from the audience and the guests.

“I speak German, French, Italian and eh.. Swedish.” Afreya added, using the Japanese name for Swedish because she didn’t know the right Korean word. Selene quickly helped out by saying the Korean name and that made the audience look even more surprised.

“Swedish? Why Swedish?” Ho Dong asked, but it was the end of Afreya’s Korean, so she just started talking in Japanese, knowing that Selene would translate.

“I went to Europe to learn these languages and I was just intrigued by Swedish when I heard it, so I started learning it.”

“I see..” Ho Dong said. “So can you show us some of your skills? We brought some native speakers of those languages to the studio. Will you have a conversation with them?”

“Of course.” They smiled as they looked back at the door out of which four people came. From the looks of them, it showed there were three European ones and one Asian guy. When seeing him, Selene immediately recognized him as being Nickhun from the Korean band 2PM. She smiled upon realizing how much her knowledge of Korean idols had widened since she was together with Hyukjae.

“These are people from Italy, England and France and of course our well-known 2PM member Nickhun, whose originally from Thailand.” Ho Dong introduced them. “They will start a conversation with you and afterwards they will be able to tell us if you’re really as good at their language as you claim to be.” Both Selene and Afreya nodded. “You said she knows little Korean?” Ho Dong suddenly asked, pointing at Afreya in surprise because she seemed to understand everything.

“She speaks only a little bit of Korean, but understands most.” Selene was quick to explain.

“Oh I see.. And can you also write all the languages.” They shook their heads.

“English and Japanese, of course, and we both know maybe a little bit of the languages we studied, but writing will not go very fluently.” Selene smiled, finally letting go of her friend’s hand as they turned towards the four people they would talk with. Selene quietly wondered why she only had one language. Maybe because she proved she could already speak Korean and was the one talking the most all the time. That would explain it, of course, yet it was still a little unusual. Or did they expect her to be the one talking to the English guy?

The conversation between Afreya and the Italian started, breaking through her thoughts as it did. They had a short talk, smiling a little and looking very comfortable. Next up was the French person. Afreya effortlessly switched languages to talk to the French woman. Of course their pronunciation wasn’t always a hundred percent, but they normally did get all the words right, just like Afreya was having no problems whatsoever now. After the French person came the English person, who ended the conversation with a nod and immediately turned to Ho Dong, telling him in Korean that she was really good.

While Afreya smiled brightly, proud to be complimented because of her talents for once, Selene found herself looking back at the guy who had intrigued her a little before. He again smiled when he saw her looking at him and she felt a little pull inside, as if something was urging her to go towards him. She locked her feet in place however and quickly turned to look at Nickhun, who she would probably be talking to next. Indeed, after every one of Afreya’s talk-partners had acknowledged her skills, Ho Dong gave word to Nickhun. He simply walked towards the guests, took the two seats Leeteuk and Hyukjae were supposed to sit on and brought them to the stage. Once he put them down he motioned her to sit down, while sitting down on one of the seats himself. It caused a lot of laughs under the guests and especially Ho Dong seemed to think this very funny.

“Do you mind if we switch places?” Selene asked, using Thai. Nickhun gave her a strange look.

“Why?”

“I think that side of your face would come out better on TV.” she replied, making him grin. He got up and they switched places. Of course that hadn’t been her real reason. By switching places, Selene had ended up sitting on Hyukjae’s seat and she was now also facing him instead of the guests. While sitting down she let her gaze quickly pass over his face to notice he seemed genuinely pleased by her small but meaningful action.

“Thank you.” she directed her words to Nickhun again. He replied it was no big deal, so they continued the conversation with him asking her about how she used her language skills and showing a lot of interest in her job of interpreter. When they had talked a little, he looked up at Ho Dong and smiled, switching to Korean to talk to him.

“Her Thai is very good. She said they work as interpreters all around the world and that they get quite a lot of job offers.” he said, thereby explaining their short conversation a little. The next words came from an unexpected corner.

“So have they worked with some of the guests here already?” When Selene turned around, she saw it was the intriguing guy who had asked that question. She bit her lower lip, but didn’t answer immediately even though everyone was watching her expectantly. Was she allowed to talk about her work with Super Junior? After a few moments of silence, right before Ho Dong could say anything, someone else suddenly talked to her.

“Ya, Selene, it’s okay, you can say it, no problems with it. The manager said it’s okay.” The words were said in Chinese, so she looked back again to eye the one saying them; Hangeng. She had met him a few times when having a drink over at the boys’ dorm and he had always been very kind to her. She smiled a little, nodding at him, before looking back at Ho Dong, who now eyed her expectantly, wanting to know what Hangeng’s words had been about.

“We have worked together with some of the Super Junior members a few times in the past.” she said, making the guests and the audience clap. Why they did that, she had no idea, but anyway.

“Really? So you know Leeteukie and Eunhyuk here? And apparently Hangeng as well?” Ho Dong asked, looking as if he had discovered a goldmine. Selene let Afreya answer with a short ‘yes.’

“How well do you know them?” he continued. She shrugged.

“Well, they’re like good acquaintances. If I saw them on the street I’d stop and say hi or something, but not much.” While saying those words, she was thinking solely about every member from Super Junior but Hyukjae, so that she didn’t feel too much as if she was lying.

“So say hi to them now then. You’ve been treating them like they aren’t there.” Ho Dong continued. She felt her heart beat in her throat, but still she got up and walked towards Leeteuk and Hyukjae. She shook their hands while bowing, saying hi and smiling politely. She repeated the same with Hangeng and Shindong sitting in between the guests while Afreya followed behind her. When she was done saying hi to the four, she walked back, grabbed the seat she had been sitting on and put it back in place. Nickhun followed that example with his seat, after which they both went to stand next to the others. Once Afreya came to stand next to her, she immediately grabbed her friends’ hand for a little reassurance.

“So who do you like the best from Super Junior?” Ho Dong asked. It was a very frequently asked question on such shows, but she still had to put in an effort not to look to her side, where Hyukjae was standing. In the end she still pointed at him, but she had at least left a little time for her to think about her answer. When she pointed at him his whole face brightened like it would always do when he was positively surprised about something. She couldn’t help chuckling.

“Hey! What about me!?” Hangeng called from behind her, using Korean so that the others would be able to understand too. Everyone laughed. Selene gathered herself again to give him an answer.

“You know you’re the best, but let this friend feel good as well once.” she replied in Chinese, tapping Hyukjae’s lower arm who was still looking very happy. He probably thought her tapping on his arm meant that she still chose him over Hangeng. Hangeng however started laughing brightly, got up and came over to gave her a high five. When he sat back down, Ho Dong was quick to ask ‘What did she say?’

“She said I am the best, but she wants Eunhyuk to feel good once too.” Hangeng truthfully replied. Hyukjae’s happy expression immediately turned hurt and he turned to ‘cry’ in Leeteuk’s arms. The audience let out a nicely synchronized ‘aw.’

“Now you made him sad. You should apologize.” Ho Dong meddled again. Selene looked at Hyukjae a bit worried, hesitating a little. She remembered Hangeng’s words and how they all seemed to be really relaxed about her communication with the idols, so she put a hand on Hyukjae’s shoulder and took a little step closer, still leaving enough space in between them. He was still fake crying with Leeteuk’s arms around him, his shoulders shocking with his ‘sobs.’

“Oppa, I just said that to make him feel better. You know how he cries the whole night when people don’t like him best. I didn’t want to do that to you. Don’t worry, you’re still my number one.” she said comforting. Her words brought laughter to the whole audience and all the guests, and even Hangeng obviously had fun. Hyukjae lifted his head to look at her. She felt the butterflies in her stomach immediately rising and she knew she would blush if he said something sweet now.

“Prove it.” was all he said, luckily, giving her a daring look.

“How?” she asked. He simply pointed to his cheek. She immediately turned to look at Ho Dong, acting as if she didn’t know if it was appropriate or not to do what he asked. The man simply shrugged and pointed at Leeteuk, so she turned around again to look at the band leader. Only he shrugged as well.

“Aish, just give him the kiss, or he won’t stop whining for the rest of the day.” Shindong meddled in the conversation for the first time. His words again brought laughter and with a calm heart she leaned closer to Hyukjae to kiss him on the cheek. At least, that’s what she planned. Right before their skin would touch, he turned his head a little and her kiss ended on the corner of his mouth, half on his lips, half on his cheek. She pulled away immediately, hitting him on his upper arm, and then immediately turning towards the camera to say sorry to the fans. The audience, however, cheered and the guests just stared at Hyukjae.

Really not liking Hyukjae’s action, Selene went to stand on the other side of Afreya, pushing her friend so that she would stand next to the reckless boy. He would probably only see a few articles about him possibly having a girlfriend and maybe his manager would have words with him, but apart from that he wouldn’t notice much from his action. She, however, would get a storm of angry fans trying to find her and probably sending her lots of hate letters and such. She suddenly felt sick, knowing that she would probably look very pale.
