[FIC] Soulmates: Selene

Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 3/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

When she turned around, she saw a young man with a big bag making his way through the arrival gate, coming towards her. When he reached her, he took off his sunglasses and looked right at her. “Selene Miyake?” he asked. She nodded and immediately a bright smile appeared on his face. “Hi! I’m sorry to keep you waiting, but I had some trouble with my luggage. My bags were lost and I had to wait for a while. I could only hope you would wait a little for me as well. I hope you didn’t get bored sitting here so long?” He spoke Korean like Hyukjae, but very animatedly, showing his sincere personality. His immediate apology and very open smile had made her annoyance disappear and she showed him a smile as well while shaking his hand.

“Gosh, now I remember why I don’t like travelling by plane. It’s always such a mess when you arrive at the airport. There’s always something wrong with my luggage or my passport..” he babbled on, but suddenly he fell silent as if he realized she hadn’t said anything yet. “Can you understand me? Because you’re not replying.. Well, I probably don’t give you enough time to reply. People always tell me to slow down when talking, but I just love talking and.. You can understand me, right?” Selene couldn’t help chuckling when she nodded again. “Great. I’m very sorry again for being so late.”

“It’s okay.” Selene spoke for the first time. She smiled brightly. The open and active talking of the young man made her feel happy and active as well. “But let’s get on our way to the car, I don’t know how much longer I am allowed to be parked there.”

“Oh right, sure. Would you mind if I buy something to drink first, though? I’m outrageously thirsty.” he replied, still showing the same openness towards her.

“Of course you can. I wouldn’t want to have you die from thirst. There’s a nice shop on the way out. We’ll pass there.” She took one of the grips from his bags and helped him carry the heavy thing while slowly starting to walk. “What the..? How long are you staying here? A year?” He laughed at her comment, but she didn’t give him time to respond, because it had been a rhetorical question anyway. “By the way, not to be a pain or something, but what is your name?”

“Right. I’m sorry. My name is Park Jung Soo. I am better known as Leeteuk, which is my stage name.” he quickly said, showing that he had totally forgotten about names. Probably because he had known hers already. Leeteuk.. Why did that name sound familiar as well? She decided to let it pass. Probably when she didn’t think about it, it would come to her. With a smile, she offered him the bag of candy she was still holding.

“Gummy bear?” she asked. He gladly took two, mumbling a ‘thank you’ as he threw them in his mouth and ate them. “I love to behead them before eating them.” she blurted out, before she could stop herself from making such an unprofessional comment. Luckily he laughed.

“Mostly I do too, but I thought it might not have been very appropriate on a first meeting with someone to start biting off gummy bear heads, you know..” He grinned.

“Well. You were late, so your good first impression was wasted already anyway.” she replied jokingly, yet he immediately started apologizing again. She had to talk through him to get him to stop. “No, really, it’s okay. It can always happen that you have some problems on the way. I just hate it when people don’t show up at all without telling me I don’t have to come either.”

“Ah, yes, that really sucks. Or when they change the schedule without letting you know and then you arrive at your destination in time only to find out they’ll only come a few hours later or even on a different day.” he immediately joined her complaining. “I had that happen a lot before, so I won’t do it to others if I can help it.”

“It’s nice that we understand each other.” she said, while smiling at him. He smiled back, as brightly as ever, before suddenly pulling the bag, and thereby her as well, closer to him.

“Look, there’s the store you were talking about I think. Can you wait outside with the bag? It’s too heavy to drag around in a store.” She nodded, taking the bag from him. She had to put away the bag of gummy bears first because the thing was too heavy to carry with one hand.

“Seriously, did you fill it with bricks or something?” she complained. He walked into the store laughing, without giving her an actual answer. It took him only five minutes to buy whatever he had wanted and come back out. He immediately picked up his bag again, leaving no grip free for her, but she didn’t say anything about it. It only showed his politeness towards her. They quickly made their way to the car, dropping his heavy bag on the backseat before getting in. It didn’t take much longer after that for them to be on their way to the city.

Eunhyuk stared at the girl in front of him. Afreya. She was talking to him in a very business-like manner, a little slower than usual to give him the chance to understand her, but still focusing mostly on her job. He didn’t really have much to say in reply, as she was only telling him about the events that would be going on in this city while he was here on vacation. Yet, in between the business she gave him friendly smiles and a few flirty looks and even though he couldn’t say that he wasn’t listening, he wasn’t paying a lot of attention either. She was currently unable to catch his interest as his thoughts were still with the other girl.

Selene.. How she had left such an impression on him, he didn’t know, but there was something about this girl that made him want to know her, have her. As an acquaintance, a friend or maybe in time even as a girlfriend, he didn’t care. He just didn’t want to let her set off on a plane the next day without being able to contact her in the future. The thought of keeping in touch with her made him smile, and he finally turned all his attention to Afreya. She was about to finish with her whole explanation, having talked about around twenty events that all didn’t sound very interesting to him. He would probably just walk around the city for the rest of the week and see what they sold in this country.

When Afreya put away the papers, he allowed himself to let his thoughts drift away again. It felt great to finally be able to just sit and listen to not-so-very-interesting things a bit. Not being pressured to get up early, not having to run from recording studio to TV show to concert and back to the recording studio. God, he was happy to have some free time. The only thing he missed were the other guys. He had already noticed it on the plane. It was just too calm around him. Going from a minimum of four to being all alone was hard to get used to. He would have liked one of his hyungs to have come with him, but they all had their own schedules and no one had been available for the whole week. That pretty much sucked.

“Selene should be about back now. I think I’ll have to go check if she needs help with something or not.” Afreya suddenly said, breaking right through his thoughts. He guessed she had noticed his utter absence of mind, because she was looking rather disappointed. A little embarrassed and guilty, he got up to walk her to the door. After exchanging a few polite expressions, she left and he walked back into his room to drop down on the couch and close his eyes. It had been a long trip to get to Germany and he was certainly up for 24 hours of sleep. Without a second thought, he let himself fall down on the couch on his side and soon he had set off to dreamland.

The restaurant they were sitting in was quite nice. It had a very relaxed atmosphere and none of the currently present people seemed to recognize her companion. Selene was sitting across from him at a table in the far back corner, listening interestedly to his story. He had been talking a lot right from the start, but since he had already said he loved talking, she had never been bothered by it. Besides, it was much easier to be around a talkative person the whole time than to be with someone who hardly ever said a word. His stories were funny as well, so she had found her entertainment for that evening.

Jung Soo had been telling her all about his life as a singer, involving a lot of his band members as well. From the start on he had made it clear to her that he was in Germany to surprise his friend, who turned out to be no other than Hyukjae. The company had kept their identities a secret to her on purpose, so that she wouldn’t accidentally reveal the whole plan to Hyukjae by mentioning that she would have to go pick up Jung Soo later on. Even though she clearly said a few times that she didn’t mind, he had kept apologizing for that quite a long time, until she had threatened him to leave him behind in the middle of the city if he said sorry one more time. Immediately, the ‘Sorry.’ he had planned on saying was changed into a ‘Let’s go out for dinner after dropping off my stuff.’ which she had gladly accepted. So that’s how they had ended up in this quite fancy restaurant, about three and a half hours after she had left the hotel to get him.

“So then they made me the leader of Super Junior because I was the oldest and I had been a trainee at the company the longest time as well.” Jung Soo finished yet another one of his stories. She nodded in understanding, smiling at him as he smiled at her. Right at that moment their food arrived. They had ordered a whole menu. At least, Jung Soo had done so and he had insisted that she at least tried some of this restaurant’s food as well, so in the end he had ordered a whole menu for her as well. They would start with a simple shrimp cocktail, which was now being put on the table. Selene had eaten European dishes more often before, but it seemed to be Jung Soo’s first time, since he was over excited by the sight of his food.

“Jung Soo?” she asked, but there was no reaction coming from him. “Jung Soo..” she tried again, a little more insisting. He looked up at her a little bewildered, blinking twice before really seeming to understand what she had said.

“Please, call me Leeteuk. It has been years since someone actually called me Jung Soo, I don’t really respond to it anymore.” he then quickly said, making her understand why he didn’t seem to know his own name. “Let’s eat. It looks delicious. I hope it tastes delicious as well.” She couldn’t help smiling because of his childlike expectance. She wished him a good meal, before picking up her knife and fork and starting to eat.

After the shrimp cocktail, there was regular tomato soup, followed by their main course. Jung Soo, maybe she should start thinking of him as Leeteuk as well, had ordered some local dish and she had simply asked for a plate of French fries, knowing that after the starter and the soup she would be almost full already. Upon tasting the fries, J..Leeteuk had been very surprised and delighted at the same time, showing a very un-idol like side of himself by hyperactively talking about the wonder of French fries and what not. Selene could only smile and chuckle about his excitement over such a thing as fried potatoes, but she had probably shown the same reaction the first time she had seen and eaten them.

It was hard not to enjoy spending time with him, because he had a funny story to tell for every subject she brought up. He made time pass fast talking about his life and interests and it was hard not to be caught up in his stories. Life was quite fun being an idol, apparently, although there probably also were hard times to it, he just didn’t mention those. The meal passed by in seemingly no time, making the two hours go by like it was nothing. Pretty soon they were eating apple cake for dessert, stating the end of the evening with it.

Much to her surprise and delight, Leeteuk paid for the whole dinner, including what she had eaten. She sincerely thanked him a few times, but he waved it away like it was nothing, stating that it would be impolite to make her pay for a dinner she was almost obliged to go to with him. They continued their conversation on the way home, but he insisted on her telling a bit about her life as well. At first, he had to ask questions for her to say anything but after a bit she got the hang of it and was almost talking as actively as he had been doing before. They seemed to arrive at the hotel way to soon, but since it was quite late already, they decided to part and meet again the next day to plan the surprise for Hyukjae. After agreeing on meeting in his room at 9 the next morning, they each went to their own room.

As expected, Afreya was still awake, although already in bed, and wanted to know all about the new celebrity. Luckily, she at least gave her friend the time to freshen up. Selene went to the bathroom to wash her face, brush her teeth, take off her earrings and change into her pyjamas. When all that was done, she quickly got in bed, getting comfortable under the blanket before turning off the light in the room. It didn’t take long for Afreya’s curiosity to win over her patience and her understanding of her friend’s weariness.

“So..? Who was it?” she asked eagerly. Selene was often surprised about how excited Afreya still was over meeting these so called famous people. In the end they were all just people as well and when you met them in private, one on one, they were just like any other average person. Of course there also were the stuck up kind of rich people who all thought the world belongs to them, but those were a very big minority. To Selene meeting these people and working with them had become completely normal, but Afreya seemed to still think it a miracle every time they got in contact with someone new. “Selene? Tell me!”

“Park Jung Soo.” Selene said, smiling at the sound of her friend’s impatient voice. “He’s some Korean singer apparently, but I have never heard of him before. At first I thought he was kidding with me, because I was thinking about the actress when he told me his name. He’s just here for today and tomorrow, on a short holiday trip or something. He wasn’t very talkative. Anyway, I have to go meet him at 9 AM tomorrow, so I would like some sleep. I’ll introduce you to him tomorrow if you want, he said he didn’t mind having a drink with Hyukjae.” It felt good to be able to speak Japanese again after spending about a whole day talking all kinds of other languages.

“Okay. I’ll see him tomorrow then. But.. Is he good-looking?” Selene couldn’t help but laugh at the silly question. It was so typically Afreya to ask something like that. “How old is he?”

“I don’t really know, I think about twenty-seven or something. His looks are ok, but nothing to write home about either.” Selene managed to sound a hundred percent uninterested, lowering Afreya’s interest as well by doing so. Of course everything she said was mostly lies. She hadn’t even known the actress Park Jung Soo, it was Leeteuk who had told her about the woman and that that was why he called himself Leeteuk, he had also told her his birth year, so she knew for sure he was twenty-seven, and maybe he wasn’t world’s most good-looking guy ever, he certainly wasn’t ugly or average looking. The only reason Selene was lying to her friend was because she knew how big of a fan Afreya was of Leeteuk, so the surprise would be all the bigger if she didn’t know who she was meeting.

“Oh..” Afreya again responded just as Selene had expected. After that little sign of resignation, the silence wasn’t interrupted anymore. With a little smile on her face, Selene closed her eyes and turned on her side. Tomorrow would be a fun day, surprising both Afreya and Hyukjae by revealing the true identity of the new celebrity. Thinking that, she had to muffle a laugh in her blanket, because she sounded so much like some TV show MC. Thinking about herself presenting a show like Star King, she soon fell asleep.
