[FIC] Soulmates: Selene

Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 13/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

“Ah, it’s so nice to see you all again.” she said, smiling happily. Before she could go on, however, she remembered the person who had not said hello to her yet earlier and who still wasn’t in sight now. She turned to look at Yesung. “Didn’t you say Kibum was on this floor?” Yesung nodded and she immediately made her way through the boys to start her investigation of every room on the eleventh floor. Much to her surprise he turned out to be in the first room she looked, so she walked in and closed the door behind her. Hearing the closing of the door, he looked up. Upon seeing her his expression immediately brightened with one of his cute smiles.

“Kibum-ssi, you didn’t even come to say hello.” she said as she walked towards him, showing him the best sad expression she could manage.

“Mianhe, Selene-ssi. I didn’t know it was you. You know I’m not much of an active person so when the guys get all hyperactive I mostly don’t join in. That’s why I didn’t come when Yesung called out there was a crazy fan. If I had known it was you, I would have of course said hello.” he replied, getting up to shake her hand. Kibum was the only member she was still very formal with, using ssi and hugging very seldom. It was not like they didn’t know each other well or were so distant, it was just that they both thought it very funny how the others gave them weird looks as they greeted formally.

Selene looked over her shoulder at the door that was still closed, before letting her arms slip around his middle. He grinned, shortly hugging her back as well before letting go again. After hugging sneakily like that, they both kept the same distance as before again while walking into the living room. The other guys had all taken a seat on the couch, the ground or someone else’s lap. They smiled as she came out with Kibum two meters behind her. He sat down next to Siwon, who meanwhile had arrived as well apparently. Hyukjae motioned her to sit with him, but she was going to give out presents so she shortly shook her head.

“Ok, so I called you all here because I have a present for every single one of you.” she started. Everyone’s expression immediately brightened. “They’re not my presents. I have two very close friends who are ELF and who asked me to give you these. They also included a present for me. Don’t ask me what presents they are because I have no idea what you’ll get either.” She looked around the circle of boys and smiled. Upon mentioning the name of their official fan club, they had all smiled with the good memories.

“Who are these friends of yours?” Leeteuk asked. She turned to look at him, seeing the curiosity and sincere interest on his face. She felt a little sad thinking about his love for Afreya and her utter lack of interest in him.

“Chinatsu Sato and Kasumi Watanabe.” she replied. “I know them from the dancing classes Afreya and I used to attend. They own a little dancing studio where they teach dancing now. Chinatsu is also majoring in acting and Kasumi is studying to become a vet.”

“Oh I see.” Leeteuk nodded as he said that, keeping his silence after that to allow her to continue her explanation about the gifts. She gladly took the opportunity.

“As I said there is one for every person. My friends, however, have given you all nicknames based on what I told them about you guys or what they already knew, so instead of just giving the presents to you, let’s make a little game out of it. I will tell you the nickname of the person they are for and you can all guess who this person is. How does that sound?” She looked around the circle again to see their reactions. Everyone sat up straight and happily clapped their hands or looked at her with interest.

“So I’ll start with the first one.” She randomly grabbed a gift and tried finding the name on it. When she did, she looked up at the boys again. “This one’s easy.” she said, smiling. “Leader.” They burst out laughing and all pointed at Leeteuk. Because it was so obvious, Leeteuk got up without any doubts and came to her to accept his present. “Let’s not open them until everyone has his own present, ok?” Selene asked. Everyone nodded in agreement or mumbled a ‘yes.’

“Right. The next one.” She dug in the bag and got out another one. “Ah, this one is not as easy. Cute-face.” The members hesitated a little before pointing at the one they thought was meant. The majority of people was pointing at Ryeowook, but Kibum and Sungmin had some votes too and Siwon pointed at Henry. When noticing that, Heechul grinned.

“Cute-face? Him? Even I would be better fit for that. I’m disappointed that no one chose me.” he said, shaking his head in disbelief. Selene gave him a stern look.

“I would be careful of what I said if I were you, Chullie.” she said. “Or I might suddenly lose your gift or forget which nickname is yours. Oh wait, I can’t.. It suits you too much. Anyone would know you’re meant by it.” Her words made the others laugh, but Heechul only became curious.

“What is it maybe?” he asked.

“You’ll see that later. As for now, Cute-face is not Henry, nor is it Ryeowook. Ryeowook’s nickname is close to Cute-face, though. But the real Cute-face is no other than Sungmin.” She leaned passed Donghae sitting next to her to reach out the present to Sungmin who was sitting two places away from her. When he had taken it, she got out another present out of the bag. It was for Violin-hero. Everyone of course pointed at the right person, since no one but Henry knew how to play the violin. Henry himself, however, was staring at her wide eyed.

“They included me too?” he asked surprised.

“Of course. You are part of this group, are you not?” she replied, smiling brightly. He stared at the present she passed to him, obviously very surprised by this. “Mimi is included as well.” Saying that made the latter look up in surprise too, showing a genuine smile after.

“I already like your friends a lot.” he said, grinning. “No matter what nickname they gave me.” She laughed softly as she took out the next present. It was for Scary-face, better known as Kangin. Everyone had guessed wrong and there was a lot of commotion when she revealed the owner of this nickname. Especially Kangin himself was very displeased and kept repeating that he ‘was not scary at all’ while giving her very scary looks. The next one was Chinesey, which everyone of course knew. Hangeng smiled when he heard it and accepted the present with a short look in her eyes. She knew he was very happy that they had linked him to his home. Hangeng loved his country very much and had a hard time sometimes spending so much time in Korea, away from his family.

The presents were easily passed out. Coming next after Hangeng was Shindong. His nickname of Cute-fat didn’t bother him, but only because it had the ‘Cute’ in front of the ‘fat.’ In his own words, if he was cute, he didn’t mind being as round as a balloon. The following present was for No-brain-two. Everyone wondered why the two and Selene calmly explained that there also was a No-brain. That made them all start guessing for the true identity of these two. When she gave the present to Donghae, however, they all laughed and happily agreed on the nickname.

“Why do I have the feeling that I will be No-brain?” Hyukjae calmly asked, making everyone laugh even more.

“Maybe because you are?” Heechul prompted, which earned him a dirty look from Hyukjae. Selene tried to hide her smile thinking of how true Heechul’s words were. Luckily no one noticed it. After Donghae came Great-smile. There was a lot of confusion over this nickname, because about everyone was thinking of someone else. When it turned out to be Kibum, they all let out an ‘Ah yes, of course’ while nodding in agreement.

The following presents were all easily handed out. Everyone knew that Heechul was meant with Bad-temper and even the owner of the name himself didn’t object to it. It was also obvious to them apparently that Weirdo was Yesung and because she gave them the hint of their Intimate Note, everyone also knew Anonymous was Kyuhyun. The fact that Baby-face was Ryeowook’s nickname was only guessed by Sungmin, who had remembered her words from before when she had told them Ryeowook’s nickname looked like Cute-face.

They had more problems with Great-voice, doubting if it was Siwon or Zhou Mi meant by this nickname. When she told them the other one was Sexy however, they immediately knew the right answer. The only person not happily calling Siwon Sexy was Hyukjae, who let out a deep sigh.

“Aish. Seriously. I knew it. Why am I No-brain? I’m not stupid!” he complained. Selene chuckled.

“Stupid or not, the biggest gift is for you.” she said, getting up and taking the bag with her as she walked to him. She got out quite a big present, giving it to him. The last present she took out, hers, was just as big as his. Everyone gave them big-eyed looks.

“Selene, don’t you want to be my girlfriend as well? Then I can get bigger presents too..” Heechul mumbled, looking at his tiny present.

“Don’t complain. At least you have your own nickname and are not just someone else with a number behind it.” Donghae replied. Selene chuckled again.

“You’re Chinatsu’s favourite, though, Donghae.” she said comfortingly. Her words made him look up in surprise.

“And she still called me No-brain-two?” he exclaimed.

“Well, that was majorly Kasumi’s thinking. Just like Cute-face, since Sungmin is her favourite.” Selene looked at him a few moments before shrugging. “Anyway. It doesn’t matter. They’re just nicknames. Let’s open our presents.” she said.

“Let’s open them one by one, starting with the youngest.” Leeteuk suggested. Selene immediately shook her head.

“I’d like to be last, together with Hyukjae.” she said, trying her best pleading look. It seemed to work, because Leeteuk shrugged.

“Then we’ll just start with Henry and go by age, but leave you two as the last.” he said. That idea was generally accepted and Henry started opening his gift. He took a little while to carefully loosen every piece of tape before opening the wrapping paper. With a surprised expression, he gently took the miniature violin out of the paper. He admired it a while, turning it around in his hands. When he looked up at Selene, there were tears in his eyes.

“This is so pretty.” he said, wiping the tears from his eyes. Zhou Mi, who was sitting next to him, put an arm around his shoulders and gave him a little hug in support. “Thank you. Thank your friends.” Henry mumbled, smiling a little. “I really didn’t think they would include me. Getting this is just wonderful.” Selene smiled and nodded. It was great to see how the boy was so happy by a simple gift that came from her friends. She really wanted to make a picture of it, but realized that might not be very appropriate, so she settled with memorizing everything so she could re-tell it with every possible detail.

Next up was Kyuhyun. Unlike Henry, he simply tore the wrapping paper, after which he looked at the object a few moments, before bursting out laughing. Everyone tried to see what exactly he was holding and the few people around him grinned as well upon seeing the present. When his laughter lessened a little, he held up the small bottle that held some kind of drink. The label clearly stated ‘Anonymous,’ making everyone else laugh as well.

“There’s a little note with it as well.” he said, taking out the tiny paper and unfolding it. His eyes flew over the lines and his grin became wider. He was obviously repressing his laughter again as he started reading the few words on the paper. “After all the best part of this is that it’s anonymous.” The words made everyone grin and mumble a few words. Kyuhyun turned to look at Selene. “Will you tell your friends I said thank you?” he asked. She nodded, smiling happily.

“I will, Kyuhyun.” she replied.

After Kyuhyun, it was Kibum’s turn to open his present. He unwrapped it with very steady movements, revealing the little sculpture of his face. It was made with much detail, showing an almost exact copy of his face with shorter hair and his famous cute smile. Upon seeing it, he smiled exactly the same smile as the sculpture showed and looked up at Selene. He didn’t really show much emotion, but she knew he was really touched by it.

“Selene-ssi.. These friends of yours are really great. Please give Chinatsu-ssi and Kasumi-ssi my sincere thanks for this wonderful gift.” he said, receiving a little nudge in the side from his neighbour.

“Will you just cut that ridiculous formal talking?” Siwon complained, making everyone else, including Kibum, smile.

“I will just call both of my friends at the end of the opening of the presents so that you can all say thank you yourself. That saves me the trouble and you can at least pass it on yourself.” Selene said, before any more comments could be made. She was about to look at the next person, but Kibum suddenly discovered a little note with his present as well. He read it and smiled again. After another nudge from Siwon, he looked up and read the note aloud. ‘So that you will forever smile and be happy.’ it said. Selene couldn’t help admiring her friends for their creativity. Finding an original present for every single one of the fifteen members had probably been a very difficult task.

Ryeowook was next. When he opened his present, he stared at the contents of the wrapping paper in awe. Before anyone could ask anything, he lifted it out of the paper and showed it to the rest. It was a very delicate silver bracelet, made out of little silver rings that were attached to each other. In between the silver rings, there were also letters attached, forming the words ‘Eternal Maknae’ in the English alphabet. The words shone brightly in the sunlight and Selene found herself staring in awe. Where did those two find the money to get all this?

Up next was Siwon who happily opened his present without much to it. He revealed a little book that had English writing on it. When he read it, he started laughing, showing it to the rest of the group as well. The title of the book was ‘Sexiness; it’s an art as well’ with a picture of Siwon underneath. When he opened the book, there was an actual definition of sexiness in it and lots of examples on how to be sexy or how to show your sexiness. Typically something Kasumi would do, making up a whole lot of nonsense about sexiness. She had probably gotten a little help from Afreya for the English, but apart from that it was obviously fully her design.

When Donghae eagerly opened his present next, he revealed a little square badge that had a drawing and some words on it. When he read it, he obviously was at a loss of words, staring at the thing a while, before slowly lifting it up to let the rest read it as well. It said ‘I have the best dad in the world’ with a cutely drawn stick figure dad and son next to it. Attached was a folded piece of paper that read ‘Sorry for the nickname, Donghae-ssi, and sorry that I couldn’t find you anything of more value. Please always be happy in your life and live it to the fullest. There is a saying that the apple does not fall far from the tree, so I assumed you had the greatest dad ever. Take care and stay healthy. Saranghae, Chinatsu.’ Even Selene felt touched by these words of her friend. Donghae had lost his father in the beginning of his singing carrier and it had always been a very sensitive thing with him. There were tears in his eyes as well now, but he blinked them away and even managed to smile.

Zhou Mi quickly started opening his gift, so that the attention would be averted from Donghae a bit to let him be alone with his thoughts for a moment. The present the two girls had found for Zhou Mi was a self made book full of pictures from Lady Gaga. As title they had put ‘Lady Gaga for Dummies’ with the subtitle ‘How to become the real Gentleman Mimi.’ The sight made him laugh and he proudly showed his present to the other members. Especially his Super Junior M members laughed with the funny sight. Selene was sure that in the book would be the same kind of ‘how to be Gentleman Mimi’-explanation as Siwon had gotten about being sexy and showing sexiness. She was glad to know that her friends still hadn’t lost their funny sides.

After Zhou Mi it was Sungmin’s turn. He opened his present in much the same way as Henry had done, carefully loosening every piece of tape and unfolding the wrapping paper like it was something very precious. He revealed a painting of himself. Selene immediately recognized Kasumi’s hand in it. She had a talent for drawing and painting that she had never used. She had always said that she would only draw for special people, because drawing was not an interest of hers. The resemblance with Sungmin was really impressive. Every little detail seemed to be exactly right, making it look almost like a picture instead of a painting. On the back of the artwork, Kasumi had left a little message. ‘Sungmin oppa, hwaiting!’ was all it said, but her painting showed more than thousand words could express.

Selene was starting to get the feeling that her friends had gone all-out for these presents, but she also had the slight feeling that the boys would treasure them deeply and not because they came from her friends, but because of how wonderful they were. Shindong was up next and his gift was a more happy one again. They had bought him a book full of recipes how people prepared pork meat in all kinds of countries. Shindong grinned widely and was obviously very happy with this gift, immediately telling Hangeng to get his cooking skills ready. That comment brightened the mood a little and the boys happily looked forward to Kangin’s gift.

When he opened it, he started smiling. He immediately showed the bag of candy to the others, happily reading the note while doing so. ‘Mianhe for the impersonal gift, Kangin-ssi, but all you do is look strong and scary, so we don’t really know much about you. We hope this will make you smile some more.’ it said. Every member inspected the different kinds of Japanese candy, sometimes asking her what it consisted of and they all made Kangin promise to let them try some of it as well. In the midst of all that commotion, Yesung started opening his gift without anyone noticing. But when he took out the cardboard and let out a happy shriek, there was a sudden silence and everyone turned to look at him. When he showed the artwork to them, Selene couldn’t help smiling.

‘Without questions
Enjoying every moment
In pursuit of
Revealing to the world
During your life how
Overly happy you are
You are someone who
Everyday
Searches for a way to
Unconditionally, while
Not changing anything,
Give the best you got’

After reading the English poem, Selene found herself smiling at the form of it. With the first letters of each line, they had formed his nickname and name. Afreya must have helped them with that as well, because the two girls never were stars in English. They could say the general words, but no big things. When Yesung put aside his present, Selene’s expectation rose. The people whose gifts she was looking forward to were coming up next and she was very curious as to what they would have gotten.

The first of them was Hangeng. His gift had the same shape as Yesung’s, yet it was a little thicker. When he opened it, he revealed two pieces of cardboard like Yesung’s that were only used to protect the papers in between. On top was a regular white paper with shining black drawings. Selene recognized them as being Chinese and judging on how tears were forming in Hangeng’s eyes, it was probably a very nice message. He swallowed a few times, before reading it aloud. When he finished, she repeated it, translating the words to Korean for the other boys to understand as well. ‘Dear Hangeng-ssi, we did not get you anything, because you always said it is better to spend money on those who are in need of it. That’s why we donated an amount that equals the amount we spent on other members’ presents to the orphanage of our home city. We also realized that you already got the greatest gift one could get when your fans wrote you a song, so we hope you will appreciate the following little present from Japanese fans. Be well, stay healthy. Sakura.’ Everyone was touched by these words and Heechul had immediately turned to his fellow member and best friend to hug him tightly.

“Who’s Sakura?” Hyukjae softly asked, interested in this new name.

“She used to be in the same class as me. We studied Chinese together. She’s one year older than me, but still a very good friend.” Selene answered. “Kasumi, Chinatsu, Kana, Sakura, Afreya and I all know each other and are very close.” She smiled a little thinking about her friends. “Kana was also in the same dancing team as us, so basically Sakura was a stranger to them at first, but they turned out to be able to get along great.” She turned to look at Heechul. “Kana is a Petal.” she then said, using the official name for his fans.

“Couldn’t she give me anything cool then?” he immediately asked, looking at his tiny present. Selene chuckled.

“Look at it first, before judging.” she replied. That shut him up. Meanwhile, Hangeng had put aside the first paper and had thereby revealed the second one. It was quite a thick paper showing a picture of Hangeng that was made up out of all kinds of little pictures of Japanese girls and boys. On the back it said ‘Three hundred Japanese fans sent us a picture to make this for you. They all had only one message: Wo Ai Ni, Hangeng.’ This touched the boy so much that the tears escaped his eyes and started rolling over his cheeks. Heechul stroked his back in a comforting gesture, mumbling some supporting words to his friend. After a few deep breaths, Hangeng had calmed down again already and he carefully put the papers back in between the pieces of cardboard to keep them safe. After that, he looked at Heechul. The moment the latter picked up his present, it was obvious how curious everyone really was about this tiny present of his. They all almost went to sit on his lap, wanting to know what was in the tiny bit of wrapping paper.

When he opened it, he revealed a shining silver necklace of a very delicate making. Connected to it was a very detailed miniature of a flower’s petal, made out of glass or diamond. The light shining on it was reflected in all kinds of colours, that made it seem all the more beautiful. A little note was included with this gift as well. ‘So that you can carry your fans close to your heart forever.’ was all it said, but the words were very touching anyway. Right when Heechul was about to say something more, Selene threw another present at him. It was about the same size as the others and it looked like it had a book inside. Heechul gave her a surprise look before opening it. His expression that had been very serious, turned into a smile and he started snickering, as he picked up the little book. When he showed it to the others, Selene started grinning. ‘Anger Management’ was the title, with some writing underneath that said: ‘For Heechul oppa from Kasumi and Chinatsu. Because being nice doesn’t hurt.’

The atmosphere again brightened because of the gift, which was a good thing after the impact of Hangeng’s and Heechul’s first gift. The last person to open his present was Leeteuk. He let out the same kind of happy shriek Yesung had done when he unwrapped the paper and grabbed the little sculpture with two hands, still being careful not to break anything. When he proudly showed it to the others, Selene was able to recognize his face on it. The girls had really been creative with their gifts, making them all nicely and coming up with very original ideas. Not only did the sculpture look a lot like Leeteuk, they had given it two wings like those of an angel. The attached note which he read aloud said ‘Leeteuk-ssi, Super Junior’s leader and guardian of a bunch of kids, you’re doing a great job. Keep up the good work and forever stay our angelic leader. Saranghae.’ He clapped his hands happily as he looked at the sculpture lying on his lap. Selene smiled over all his happiness. After a few minutes, however, he suddenly looked up at her.
