Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 14/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

“Now you two have to open your presents. I’m very curious. They look alike when it comes to shape, so I’m really wondering what could be in them.” he said, pointing at the still untouched presents. Selene looked up at Hyukjae, let out a little sigh and picked up her present. She was a little afraid of what the gift would be. Her friends knew her very well, so they would probably have picked something she liked and it would probably make her get all teary-eyed.

“What are you waiting for? Unwrap it!” Heechul exclaimed. “You’re not going to get out of this. You will be having to unwrap it in front of us. Just cry when you feel like it, we don’t care. As long as you open it. Don’t be such a wannabe cold-hearted person.” His words might sound harsh to others, but she took them for what they were; encouragement. She answered his smile with a wannabe smile, before starting to unwrap the paper. Hyukjae did the same, following her speed so that he wouldn’t finish sooner or later than her. Somehow she was thankful for that and it gave her some courage.

The colourful wrapping paper she took away layer by layer slowly revealed its content. When she took out the present, she already felt a lump starting to form in her throat and her vision started to have blurry edges because of her watery eyes. Looking aside, she saw Hyukjae had gotten exactly the same thing, only with his name on it instead of hers. In her hands was a light brown teddy bear holding a heart with her name on it in white letters. Hyukjae’s teddy bear was dark brown, holding a heart with his name on it. Before she could even say anything about it, the other members pointed and called out things about the text on the back of the bears. Both Selene and Hyukjae turned the things in their hands, thereby discovering that, put next to each other, the letters on the backside of the bears’ T-shirts formed the word ‘Forever.’ The ‘For’ was written on Selene’s bear, while the ‘Ever’ part was on Hyukjae’s bear. Upon seeing that and realizing what it meant, her vision became totally blurry as the tears found their way down her cheeks. She immediately wiped them away, but there were more following. Without really realizing it, she was pulled into an embrace by Hyukjae, being rocked back and forth by him as he whispered some sweet things to her. Meanwhile, the boys found the note in her wrapping paper. It was passed on from person to person and finally Sungmin read it aloud. It was Japanese and it was the most touching message she had ever gotten from her friends.

‘Because we want you to forever be happy together with your Hyukjae and keep on getting on our nerves with your nagging about him. We wish you all the best of luck in your relationship. Stay strong and don’t ever let them get you down. You are like a sister to us, Selene, and we’re ready and willing to accept Hyukjae as our brother-in-law at any possible moment in time. It’s about time you introduce him to the rest of us as well, because it’s not fair that only Afreya has seen him so far. Keep believing in him like you do now and make him keep believing in you like he does now. We love you, sister.’ It was signed with the names of the five girls, in order of their age. Sakura, Kasumi, Afreya, Kana and Chinatsu. Hearing the message made the tears run even more freely and she soon found herself having to gasp for air, because her sobbing became too much.

There were comforting hands everywhere, stroking her back, wiping her tears, caressing her hair. In the midst of that storm of attention, she was still able to find the one touch she needed most and when she breathed in his well known scent, a sudden calm came over her. As she let out a trembling sigh, she was finally able to stop herself from bursting out in sobs again and slowly her shocking body became still again as well. When finally all her tears had dried, she didn’t want to get up and face the members after her sudden inexplicable outburst, so she just let her head rest against Hyukjae’s chest. It didn’t take long for her to fall asleep, still gently being rocked back and forth.

Even though she had slept about an hour on his lap, all the members were still sitting on exactly the same spot as before when she woke up. Upon discovering that, she felt her cheeks flush, but they all just smiled and said some encouraging words. Only Heechul of course had to comment with ‘You look so cute and sweet when you sleep, but we know that’s only when you sleep.’ She threw a pillow at him, which he caught, put on Hangeng’s shoulder and rested his head on it. That action made her smile and she unconsciously went to sit a little closer to Hyukjae as well.

After a few minutes, the boys asked her to call her friends, even suggesting to use their phones so that she wouldn’t have to pay for the calls, but in the end she just used her own phone because the girls would at least know it was her then. Kasumi was the first they called and since she was together with Chinatsu in the dance studio, the boys were able to thank both girls at the same time, which caused a lot of laughter for the girls. Selene also had a short private conversation with them using Japanese and sincerely thanking them for the gifts. When that was done, Hangeng asked if it was possible to call Sakura, because he wanted to thank her for the wonderful gift. As he did so, talking Chinese the whole time so Selene had to translate for the other boys, he also complimented her on her great use of Chinese. Because of that, Heechul also requested to call Kana and to Selene’s big surprise he genuinely thanked her for the necklace that he was already wearing. He seemed to be really thankful for the gift, even though he hadn’t shown it that much before. In the end the boys were very happy to have talked with her friends and her stay at the dorm that day was a very fun one.

From then on, life was as busy and hectic as ever. She spent more time on airplanes than in any country, travelling from A to B to do 3 shows in a day with different people. Yet even though her schedule was so busy, she still found time to meet up with Hyukjae from time to time. After about a month or so, she was in Japan again for a day. It was even less than a day, but she at least was home for a few hours, being able to pack new clothes and regain a little bit of energy before getting on the next plane. It was on that day that Jo Kwon crossed her path for the third time. While out to do some grocery shopping, she again walked in on him, in the same shop as they had met before. She was out to buy rice and apparently so was he. When she was choosing which brand of rice to get, his all too familiar voice had sounded next to her.

“You must be kidding me.” She turned upon hearing those words, only to look right at him. For a few moments she just stared, not knowing who the person was, but then she recognized him. As her eyes widened a little, she immediately bowed.

“Jo Kwon-ssi.” she said, bowing a second time after that. Her relaxed attitude towards him had completely disappeared after the weeks of going about with other celebrities and using the formal languages for them. His attitude towards her, however, had not changed at all.

“Selene! This is just unbelievable. Are you here to buy rice as well?” His eyes wandered to the products and she nodded. “Why are you always buying the same I’m planning on buying?” he mumbled, while pulling out a random sack of rice out of the aisle. She had shaken her head in disbelief, noticing that it was the same she had planned on getting, but didn’t say anything. “Ah well, I guess I will have to buy you a drink then.” His words made her look up at him in shock.

“What? Jo Kwon-ssi..” she started to protest, but he shook his head.

“I promised, so I will. Are you free today?” he interrupted her.

“Mianhe, Jo Kwon-ssi. I have a very busy schedule. I’m only here for five more hours and I still haven’t finished packing yet.” she replied, grabbing another sack of rice than originally planned, just because he had taken the one she wanted to have. There were enough scary similarities between them without having the same rice. And why did they always keep meeting?

“Packing can hardly take five hours. Besides, it’s just a cup of tea. Drinking doesn’t take hours either.” he replied, and then he did something she hadn’t expected. “Please.” he begged. She gave him a surprised look, but he did not seem to care about that. “Please go have a cup of tea with me. Please go have a cup of tea with me. Please go have a cup of tea with me. Please go have a cup of tea with me.” He kept on repeating it, talking so fast like he didn’t even need to breathe in between. She blinked a few times, before quickly walking away to the cash register, but he simply followed her, still repeating the words over and over. When they arrived at the cash register, however, he suddenly stopped. Relief washed over her, because how would the cashier look if there was a guy repeating the same words over and over in a language she didn’t even understand. Yet when he had put the sack of rice on the desk, he started doing it again. She quickly turned around and shushed him.

“Oppa, shush. I will go and drink tea with you. But only one cup. And then I will go home and you will leave me alone.” she said, immediately turning away again to pay for her sack of rice. She took the thing and walked out of the store, without even looking back. For a slight moment she considered just going home, but she had kind of promised to go have a drink with him and actually she did feel a bit thirsty. For those reasons only, she stopped outside of the store and turned around with a sigh, waiting for him in the gentle autumn sunlight.

That’s how she had ended up in some little teashop with him. Much to her surprise he turned out to be behaving quite well and they actually had a normal conversation like normal people. As they talked about home and family, she gradually started to feel more at ease and she forgot all about time or schedules. It was only when they were interrupted that she realized again where they were. Two girls had come up to them and cleared their throats to get attention. When Selene looked up with a questioning expression, she saw the papers and pens in their hands and realized they were fans. A little startled, she turned to look at Jo Kwon, because he was probably the one they wanted to see.

“We’re very sorry for disturbing you.” one of the two started, using Japanese of course. She seemed to realize the problem in that herself as she added: “Do you understand me?” Jo Kwon listened interested to her words, but meanwhile gave the paper and the pen only one look before turning to Selene. The girls seemed to think he was not at all interested in them, because Selene saw their expressions turn sad as they started backing away. He immediately responded by reaching out to them to stop them. Surprised, they looked at his hand in front of them, staring as if they were seeing a ghost. Selene quickly translated their words for him and turned to the girls again.

“It’s okay. Don’t go.” she said, translating what Jo Kwon was saying to her. “He wonders why you came here. Do you want an autograph? A picture?” While talking, she made sure to keep smiling a friendly smile, so that the girls wouldn’t think her words less genuine than Jo Kwon meant them. The moment they realized she was a translator, however, they stepped closer again and eagerly nodded in answer to her questions.

“Is it possible to make a picture? Doesn’t he mind?” the one who spoke before said. Selene translated. Instead of replying, Jo Kwon nodded and reached out for their papers. They gladly gave them to him, after which he immediately started writing on the back of what turned out to be a picture of 2AM. While he was doing that, the silent one of the two girls looked up at Selene. She seemed to hesitate a moment before talking.

“You..” she then said softly. “..were on Star King, weren’t you? That one time with the other interpreter.” Surprised that the girl recognized her, Selene nodded and smiled.

“Yes, that was me.” she replied.

“Do you know him from there?” she asked, obviously meaning Jo Kwon. Selene shook her head.

“Well, I met him there, but we didn’t keep in contact or anything. We just happened to bump into each other in the store just now and he invited me for a cup of tea.” she replied, calmly explaining the situation in hopes of not getting the fans angry. The girl luckily started smiling.

“You’re very lucky.” she said. “And I’m happy you accepted to go drink a cup of tea or we wouldn’t have been able to see him either.” Selene smiled, feeling relieved inside that the girl did not have any bad feelings towards her or whatever. She turned to look at Jo Kwon again, who had finished signing and gave the girls back their papers and the pen.

“Do they have a camera?” he then asked. Selene translated the question and the girls nodded again, getting out their GSMs. Upon seeing that, Jo Kwon got up from his chair to take pictures with them. Selene watched the whole thing with a smile on her face. He was very good with his fans, staying friendly and letting them take multiple pictures. In the end, before they left, he even shook their hands and wished them a good day. Selene could see their overexcited faces as they walked away and she couldn’t help but smile. Afreya would have acted like them as well.

“Sorry about that.” Jo Kwon said as he sat back down. Selene turned to look at him.

“Oh, it’s okay. I’m just happy they didn’t throw me any murderous looks or something.” she replied, making him chuckle. “But I should go now. I really don’t have much time and I really do have a lot left to pack.” she then added. He immediately became serious again.

“I feel sorry to have to say goodbye to you already.” he said. “Let me at least walk you home..” He asked it like it was a question, but she knew it wasn’t really one. If she would refuse, he would probably keep repeating the question until she accepted, just like before. That’s why she didn’t make any comments on his words. After he had paid, they left. He was a real gentleman walking her home and saying goodbye on the pavement at her house. Right before she turned to go in, he asked for her number, to keep in touch. She hesitated a moment, but did askfor his phone. She quickly inserted her number, before turning around and walking away. She would get his number the moment he called or texted her. As she closed the door behind her, she felt her phone vibrate, so she quickly looked at the text message.

‘Thanks for having a drink with me. I will see you soon. Take care.’

She smiled, chuckled and then started laughing. He was such a dork. Yet the way he seemed to be so sure of meeting her made her feel relaxed. If she didn’t have time for it, he would make sure she simply made time for it. Somehow his attitude towards her was the thing that attracted her in him. He did not take no for an answer when he didn’t want to. It made her feel very secure with him, knowing that he would stop her whenever she would do something stupid again. Unlike Hyukjae, who just let her do whatever she wanted and said yes to everything she did.

Well, he did not do that of course, but that was what it felt like for her. He depended on her so much, while she actually needed someone she could depend on. That was what bothered her most in her relationship with Hyukjae. While thinking over those things, she finished packing her bags and got ready to set off on yet another plane.
