[FIC] Soulmates: Selene

Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 15/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

Hyukjae sighed as he dragged himself from the kitchen to the sofa. There were staff and production people everywhere, making him unable to call Selene. They were together for a year now, since April of last year, but in the past six months he had seen her less and less. It was not that she had such a busy schedule or that he was doing activities non-stop, but often one of them was gone when the other was free and aside from that she had started meeting this Jo Kwon dude more often. Not to say she was with him almost every time he tried to contact her. That hurt him. Knowing that she spent time with another guy and seemed to think that guy more important than him. It made him feel anxious as well, because every day he more and more felt like she would come to him and tell him it was over. He could see that image all too well in his mind and it gave him nightmares. He was far from ready or willing to give up on her already. Letting out an annoyed cry, he got up from the sofa to walk into his room, slamming the door closed behind him and locking it. The members would know to leave him alone and the staff didn’t even have to try to get in. They should all just leave him alone. Or die. It would be nice if everyone died so that he could just spend all his time with Selene. More and more he started cursing his idol life.

He let himself fall down on the bed and closed his eyes. How he hated being down. He hardly ever was, but whenever it happened, it was bad. Like today. Like the last few days. Or weeks. Or months. Damn that Jo Kwon. Why didn’t he die? That would solve a lot of his problems. The guy would then at least stop stealing his girlfriend and winning all the awards. As he thought that, he suddenly started to get the feeling someone was in the room. He lifted his head and looked to his left, only to jump up in shock, causing himself to fall off the bed and hit his head against the wall. As he crawled up again, he rubbed the hurting spot, not getting his eyes off the person on his bed. She looked back, smiling apologetically.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, Eunhyuk.” she said, getting up from the bed as well so that they would be on the same eye level.

“Well suddenly appearing in someone’s bedroom doesn’t really help when you’re not trying to scare them.” he grumbled, glancing at the still locked door. “How did you get here?”

“I will explain. It is part of why I am here.” K’Ae smiled at him and sat down again on the other bed in the room. He cautiously sat down on his own bed as well, glancing at the locked door from time to time. How did she get in? Had she been in his room before he had entered it? But then how did she get into the dorm? It was true that this girl appeared on the most weird moments in places you would not at all expect her to be, but this was too weird to be normal. She must have some sort of secret way of sneaking into houses. Maybe she was a professional thief or.. “I’m a ghost.” Well, that was a possibility too. Wait..

“What?” He stared at her in a very unflattering way, with his mouth opened wide, but it didn’t matter. Secret, okay. Ghosts, not okay. Wasn’t it bad enough that he had some punk running around with his girlfriend now this girl had to come joke around with him as well? Where was the hidden camera? Unconsciously, he was already looking around searching for it. “This is not funny. Just cut the nonsense and leave, please. I do not have the time nor the will to listen to such childish jokes.” he said when he couldn’t find any, using informal language out of annoyance. That seemed to trigger something in the girl, however.

“Ya, Eunhyuk-ah!” she exclaimed, getting up from the bed so that she towered out over him. He had to look up at her. “I have been through more than enough to deserve at least a little respect from you. You might be older than me, but I will not accept such language. Listen to what I have to say and when you still think it’s nonsense after that, then you can do whatever you want but you won’t need to expect my help anymore. Understood?” She took one slow breath before adding “Oppa.” to her words. Her outburst had shocked him and he timidly nodded in reply. “Good. Then I will continue.” She sat down again, smiling friendly at him as if there had never been any sudden outburst. Coming to think of it, why did no one wonder where the girl’s voice came from? With such an outburst they surely must have been able to hear her..

“I am a ghost. Around two years ago I got electrocuted by a vacuum cleaner and died. Yet instead of moving on, my soul was sent back to the earth and I was forced to spend my time at Choi Seung Hyun’s side. You know him as Top from Big Bang.” She paused a moment and gave him the time to think over her words. At least he thought that’s why she paused. With a little unsafe feeling he looked up at her. Something bad was going to come out of this. She was going to tell him things he really didn’t want to know, he could sense it in the atmosphere. With a little sigh he nodded, to indicate he did indeed know Top. “It was only later that I was explained by another ghost why this is so. You see, it turned out that Top and I share the same soul. We are both halves of one soul, soul mates.” Yep, this certainly was going to end up in bad stuff. Divided souls and dying people. This had ‘script of the newest horror movie’ written all over it.

“How is that possible?” he asked, even though he didn’t really want to know.

“I’ll explain it in detail.” she replied, moving to a little more comfortable position. He followed the example. “When a baby is born into this world it is given a soul, so that it can become a unique person with its own thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, however, something goes wrong and a baby gets only half of a soul, while another baby gets the other half. In other words, the soul will be divided in two and shared by two different bodies. I don’t know why this happens from time to time or how it is possible, but I do know that it is true.” Of course. And his mother was an alien from the planet Jupiter.

“Ok. Let’s say I believe you. So why did you come back as a ghost then?” he asked, trying not to sound too unbelieving. K’Ae smiled.

“Because these people are halves of a soul, soul mates, they will spend their whole life searching for the other half, without knowing what they’re looking for. Some souls are shared by siblings or family members, so they are together from the start. Other souls are divided over people that meet each other in the course of their life. Mostly, when that happens, these two people will fall in love, but it is also possible that they only develop a strong friendship or a relationship as it would be between family members.” she explained. “A very small part of these separated souls, however, does not find their other half before one of the two dies. When that happens, the ‘dead’ soul can’t move on from this world and is pulled back to live with its other half until that person dies too and they can reunite and move on. To really understand this, you must know that when a person dies, the soul will move on so that it can be at peace. Half souls, however, cannot move on, so they have to reunite with their other half before being able to.”

She told him all that in a very convincing tone. She sounded like she really believed everything she was telling him and that belief was contagious. He slowly found himself starting to imagine it like it was true, trying to really understand what she was telling him. Yet, somehow, it all still sounded too much like some romantic fantasy movie. Add superpowers and she could start a new ‘Fantastic Four’ or ‘The Reuniting of Souls.’ It would surely become a blockbuster.

“Can you prove this?” he asked. “Prove to me that you are really a ghost? Prove to me this connection you say you have with the other half of your soul.”

“I can prove to you that I am a ghost. To prove my connection with Top, however, he would have to be around.” she immediately replied. “I can give him a call if you would lend me your phone, but you would have to let him in. It’s too suspicious when you two suddenly go out into the city together. Besides, too much people would be watching then. Should I call him or is that not needed?” He doubted a few moments, before nodding.

“Please call him. I am curious as to how this all works.” he mumbled, feeling a little humble in front of her all of a sudden. K’Ae had always been a little special, but all this just made her more special and a little bit cool as well. She smiled upon hearing his words. Then she did something he could never have expected. She stood up, but her legs just went through the bed as she walked towards him. He staggered back in surprise, falling off his bed a second time, yet somehow managing not to hit his head. She chuckled.

“Can I borrow your phone then, oppa?” she asked. “I did not bring anything so that no one would see me enter. If I take material stuff from the real world with me, they can see it, even when they can’t see me, you see?” He didn’t see, but he nodded anyway, giving her his GSM. She accepted it, dialled a number and walked back to the other bed. Right as she started a conversation, someone knocked on the door.

“Hyukkie.. Is everything alright?” Sungmin called from behind the door. Damn. Now they come knocking? When it’s not needed anymore.

“Yah, I’m fine, don’t worry.” he called back, making sure his voice was steady and did not show any signs of his shock or lingering annoyance.

“You sure?”

“Yah, I’m sure.”

“Okay.”

As Sungmin left, K’Ae seemed to have finished her conversation as well, since she turned around and gave him back his phone. When he gave her a questioning look, she only smiled.

“He’s on his way.” she then said. “I’ll tell you when he arrives, cause you’ll have to go and let him in. Is that okay for you?” He shrugged.

“I guess so. So tell me, can you become invisible as well?” he asked. She laughed. Not two seconds later, she had disappeared. With eyes wide in surprise he looked around to find her. A few moments later, she appeared again on the same place as she had been sitting before, making it clear that she hadn’t moved. He could feel nothing but sudden respect for her. “That is so cool.” he mumbled, making her laugh again.

They sat like that for a while, taking their time to talk about the whole divided souls and ghost stuff some more, while waiting for Top to arrive. After gathering all his courage, he also dared asking her what she and Top had ended up like. The question had made her smile, causing a strange light to appear in her eyes as she thought of the boy. He hadn’t needed her answer to know that they had fallen in love. Somehow the thought of being together with a ghost did freak him out, though. He would ask Top about it if he got the chance.

About twenty minutes later, she suddenly told him Top had arrived, so he got up and walked out of his room. The boys in the living room looked up at him, frowned and then looked away again. He tried not to be bothered by their looks and simply walked out of the dorm, down the stairs to the outside. The security guys had stopped Top already, so he sped up a little.

“Top-ah!” he called out as he got closer. He smiled at the security. “It’s alright, he’s a friend of mine.” He put an arm around Top’s shoulders upon reaching him and pulled him into the building like he would do with any other friend. Once in the elevator, however, he immediately let go of the other and took some more distance. “I’m sorry about that. Security has gotten quite strong since the last fan-attack. I’m Eunhyuk, nice to meet you.” he said. Top smiled timidly. He seemed a little shy, yet his appearance did not make him look shy.

“It’s nice to meet you too, hyung. And it doesn’t matter, I had already expected something like that would happen when I saw the security people.” Top replied. He took off his sunglasses, revealing two very intimidating eyes, but looked down at the elevator’s floor. “Won’t your friends mind me coming into the dorm when they don’t know me?”

“Ah, pff, I’ll just tell them you’re a friend of mine. They won’t care. Even if they do, they probably won’t protest against it, since I’ve been in a bad mood for weeks already and they all decided to ignore me until my mood is better.” Hyukjae answered, impatiently waiting for the elevator to reach the eleventh floor. When it did, he immediately got out and entered the dorm again. This time, the boys looked up like they had done before, but instead of looking away again, their surprised gazes stayed on Top.

“Annyeonghaseyo.” the younger boy said, bowing towards them. They bowed their heads in a returned greeting, but didn’t stop staring until both Top and Hyukjae disappeared into the latter’s room. After that, they gave each other questioning looks, shrugging in reply. Of course their curiosity had risen, but they didn’t plan on asking any questions when Hyukjae was in this kind of crappy mood. Luckily for the latter, the staff had left their dorm so no one else would ask questions either.

Meanwhile, in the room, Hyukjae was able to see exactly what K’Ae had meant with the soul mate stuff. The moment Top had entered the room, she had brightened, like something very good had happened to her, and when the boy closed the door behind him and walked towards her, he as well gave off that happy and bright feeling. It made Hyukjae long for Selene even more. Silently, he took his former place on his bed, looking at the two who exchanged a hug and smiled at each other knowingly. It was one of those smiles where you also exchanged a lot of things without using words. One of those smiles you could only give to someone who was very close to you. A piercing pain went through him as he saw the image in his mind of Jo Kwon and Selene being together, like they probably were at this very moment. He flinched. K’Ae seemed to notice this, because she averted her eyes to him, smiling sympathetic.

“You probably wonder why I tell you this..” she softly said. He nodded, even though it was only because of her words that he started wondering why indeed she would tell him all those things. Her expression became a little sad and the sympathy in her eyes seemed almost unbearable. Suddenly the image of Jo Kwon and Selene became even more pressing. His eyes widened and he was almost sure of what she was going to tell him. “Selene..” she said, but that was enough. He cried out a ‘no,’ jumping up from the bed and dashing out of the room.

Again all eyes turned to him, but this time the members immediately got up from their seats upon seeing his face and hovered around him. Arms were put around him, people were keeping him in place and comforting him, even though they didn’t know why, but he hardly even felt their touch. The only thing getting through to him was a female voice, continuing the sentence she had started to say, thereby breaking every single bit of his hope that things would turn out okay.

“..and Jo Kwon are two halves of the same soul as well.”

Tears formed in his eyes as his strength seemed to flow away from him. He became pudding in the other members’ arms, slowly sinking down on the ground. His four band members crouched down next to him, worriedly asking questions he didn’t even hear, trying to get him to answer with words he didn’t remember how to say. All that time, he saw K’Ae just standing there, next to a sitting Top. After a while, she sat down on the boys lap. When he put his arms around her and let his head rest against her shoulder, she suddenly started to glow. At first it was just softly, but after a few moments, she could compete with the sun and he had to shield his eyes from her.

“Hyukkie..” the voice made the strength flow back into his body and he managed to turn his head to look at the person speaking. “Hyukkie, what happened? What’s wrong? What is that guy doing here? What did he do to you? Hyukkie..” He did the only thing he could do, he grabbed Donghae’s hand and let his head rest against his friend’s shoulder. The tears now streamed freely, but he didn’t care. Why would he care when that Jo Kwon now suddenly also seemed to have the right to be messing around with his girlfriend? As if it wasn’t bad enough that she seemed interested in him, now he was special to her as well. Damned be the world. Now he couldn’t even wish the dude dead, because then he would just come back to live by her side as a ghost. Great. Just wonderful. Really superb.

His thoughts trailed on like that for a moment, until the sound of loud voices reached him. Somehow he managed to lift up his head and look at his surroundings. A few meters away, Kyuhyun had grabbed Top by his collar, pulling him close to his face, wanting to know what the hell he had done to make Hyukjae become like this. At each side of him he had a backup, as Ryeowook and Sungmin were standing right behind him and Yesung was looking over Kyuhyun’s shoulder, their expressions more vicious than Hyukjae had ever seen them. Before he could react, however, K’Ae stepped up to the boys and put her hand on Kyuhyun’s chest. While gently pushing him back, she seemed to become more clear and the eyes of his members widened. He realized that they only now could see her.
