[FIC] Soulmates: Selene

Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 10/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

“Aish, seriously, you must be kidding me!” Selene yelled in frustration.

“You’re starting to sound a lot like Heechul. It’s scary.” Afreya calmly replied from the other room. “Even talking Korean when there’s no one but me around. I’m still Japanese and so are you, if you should have already forgotten that..”

“Oh of course not. I’m sorry, hun. It’s just that I haven’t seen the girls in ages and now that we’re finally going to the movies together, I can’t find anything!” she apologized, while complaining a little more as well. Afreya laughed, but did come into the bedroom to help her search.

“What is it that you’re looking for?” she asked.

“I’m trying to find my comfy jeans, you know the one with the little flower on the pocket and the belt with the little diamonds on it.” Selene said, getting up from looking under the bed.

“What? You threw those over the showerhead the day before yesterday or so. The jeans with the belt still in it. I’m thinking it hasn’t left that place yet.”

“Seriously? Aish! I’m such a moron.”

“Yah, you really are Heechul. Only he would not admit his stupidity.”

Selene laughed because of her friend’s comment and immediately went to look for the jeans in the bathroom. It was indeed hanging over the showerhead, just like Afreya had said. Laughing at herself in silence, she put on the pair of jeans that she had only worn for about four hours before changing into something else again. It was the last week of the break they had taken and there were only three days left before work would start again. Their schedule was already packed for the next month, so she had planned on visiting Hyukjae a last time the next day, but it wasn’t sure yet if she was able to make it and if he was free for her then.

“Found it!” she called out to Afreya, while walking out of the bathroom again to go put on a nice T-shirt from her wardrobe. It had been ages since she had met up with her friends from high school, so this opportunity to meet all of them at once was a great chance for her. It felt great to be back in Japan, sleeping in her own bed in the nice little house she shared with Afreya. As her friend had cleverly pointed out, however, she easily spoke Korean lately instead of Japanese because of the amount of time she had spent talking to the boys. It was nothing Afreya cared much about, but her other friends did not understand the language, so she would have to make sure she didn’t suddenly go all gibberish on them.

“What T-shirt should I wear?” she mumbled as she entered the bedroom again. Afreya laughed while putting on her earrings, thereby finishing her outfit for that day.

“You’re such an easygoing person all the time, but when you have to get dressed to go out with your friends who don’t give a damn about what you wear, you start to freak out over the little things.” she said, giving her friend a playful nudge in the side. Selene shrieked and jumped, but did have a reply ready.

“One can never know.. Maybe I’ll be able to score some good-looking guys.”

“You, young lady, have a boyfriend.”

“But you don’t. Even though it’s high time you do so that Teukie knows he’ll have to let you go.”

“Ah.. Him..” Afreya sighed, shaking her head. “It’s kind of sad for him. I was surprised when he told me he liked me. He’s like seven years older than me. Not that it shows..” She shrugged a bit. “I guess if he wasn’t famous I might have considered going out with him, but I’m not exactly looking forward to having fans watch over my every move. I don’t know how you do it, girl. Being an idol’s girlfriend looks damn right tiring to me.” Selene smiled a little sad.

“It does suck sometimes, yes.” she agreed, as she took a black shirt with silver butterflies on it out of the wardrobe. Her thoughts wandered off to the few days after the Star King show had aired. She had fearfully checked every fan site she knew, to see what the netizen’s reactions would be. There had been amazingly little negative responses. Most of the fans just wondered why Hyukjae had turned his head right before the kiss. They had also commented on ‘the luck of that girl’ and ‘why she would hit him after the kiss, because which girl wouldn’t dream of a kiss with Hyukjae?’ A little smile broke through on her face when her thoughts lead her to her boyfriend. “Ah, but my Hyukkie is worth it.” she added to her earlier words, before putting on the T-shirt and looking at herself in the mirror.

“I would like to say I want to puke, but you’re just so damn cute when talking about him.” Afreya replied. They both laughed as they left the bedroom to go fix their hair in the bathroom. Afreya chose a very stylish braid, while Selene went for a simple ponytail with two locks of her hair staying out to frame her face. She also put on a pair of cute silver earrings in the shape of butterflies that matched nicely with her T-shirt, and finished with a little bit of perfume.

“Aish.” Selene sighed as she tried to put on her mascara. It just wouldn’t cooperate with her. “Why is this thing being such a pain?” She poked the little brush back into its holder, throwing the whole thing in the bathtub in an outburst of annoyance. “I’ll go natural.”

“Are you sure you want to risk that?” Afreya teased her. “Those good-looking boys you want to score might just run away screaming when they see you. Especially when you keep acting like that Heechul dude. You’ll scare the shit out of them.”

“Say what?” Selene replied, picking up a brush and slowly approaching Afreya, holding the thing up like a dagger or something alike. She tried to put on her most threatening face, but the halfway finished make-up kind of ruined the scary image she wanted to show. She probably looked more like a clown than a crazy killer. Afreya, sharing the same thoughts, started laughing and stole the brush from her friend to fix her hair one last time before leaving the bathroom.
Smiling as well, Selene took the mascara out of the tub again and quickly finished her make-up without any further problems. In no time she had grabbed a comfortable vest and her little bag, setting for the door where Afreya was already waiting. She put on her high heels to finish her outfit before stepping out of the door. It was nice weather outside. The sun was shining brightly, with a slight breeze to keep them cool. The sky was a clear blue with no clouds in sight, making her feel happy and free. Laughing, she ran out on the pavement, dancing in circles in front of their house. Afreya quickly closed the door behind her to join her friend in the circle-dance. They laughed as they almost fell down of dizziness and hugged each other.

“I love this day.” Selene called out happily. Afreya could only nod in agreement, still laughing. They set off to the centre of the city, walking arm in arm and making random comments about houses, cars or people they passed. All in all, they just acted the same as they always did when going to the city together.

Fifteen minutes later they had reached the busiest street of the town, where the movie theatre was as well. As they passed by a greengrocer’s, Selene suddenly felt like eating an apple, so she told Afreya to go on while she quickly went to buy one. Afreya said she would just wait outside, so Selene entered the shop, walking straight towards the fruit section. She let her gaze wander over the tasty looking apples, deciding which brand to get and which specific apple. Right when she was going to take an apple, she noticed the pears next to the apples. She immediately changed her mind and reached out for a very tasty looking pear.

Her fingers brushed against someone else’s, making a little jolt of surprise run through her. She wanted to pull her hand away, yet at the same time she wanted to keep the contact. The other person seemed to be camping with alike problems since neither of them pulled away. A little embarrassed she looked up at the person. For a moment she thought he looked familiar, but then she recognized him and her eyes went wide in surprise. In no time she pulled back her hand, taking a step back as well.

“Omo.” she was able to get out, before slapping a hand over her mouth. He seemed to realize she recognized him, because he immediately put a finger on his lips, motioning her to be silent. He started to mumble some wannabe-Japanese that she didn’t understand at all, so she quickly interrupted him.

“It’s okay. You probably don’t remember me, but I was..” she started, speaking Korean to him. It was his turn to interrupt her next.

“Of course. You’re the girl from Star King. The interpreter, right? That’s why I thought you looked familiar!” he said, immediately smiling brightly. “What was your name again.. Uh.. Selene?”

“Yes.” She was surprised that he had remembered her name. Okay, it was quite special, but still. “I don’t want to be nosy, but..what are you doing in Japan?” Jo Kwon smiled even wider, even though she didn’t think that had actually been possible.

“I’m here for promotional activities. I was back in the house we’re staying at when I suddenly felt like eating apples. So I came to the store to buy some, but when I saw the pears I changed my mind. Like you apparently did as well, I thought you were buying apples. Do you happen to live around here maybe or are you out on an assignment? And where’s your friend? Afreya was it? Didn’t you say you’re almost always together?” He just kept talking. It seemed like there was no end to it. The words left his mouth so fast that she even had a bit of trouble understanding all of it, but she managed to get the general idea of what he had said. Before she could start replying however, he had finished getting air and started talking again. “I’m sorry, I talk too much again don’t I? Did you even get what I said? Maybe I should repeat it more slowly so that you c- I talk too much don’t I?”

“It’s alright.” she replied automatically. In her head she had a major flashback to when she had met Leeteuk for the first time. He had talked non-stop as well, but it had been less fast than this guy was talking. “I do live around here, yes, and Afreya is waiting outside. We’re going to the movies with friends. I actually have to hurry up. It was nice seeing you again. Good luck with your activities in Japan.”

“Oh they’re finished already, we’re going home tomorrow. Have fun with the movie.” he said, smiling brightly. “Don’t forget your pear.” He handed her the pear they both had been wanting to pick. When she took it, her fingers brushed his skin again and she felt a slight tingling sensation where they had touched. She bowed, thanking him for the pear and quickly walking to the cash register. She paid for her pear, with Jo Kwon waiting in line behind her. When she left, he waved at her, so she quickly raised her hand in a greeting as well.

“Wow girl, you look like you’ve seen a ghost!” Afreya commented once she walked out of the store. “What happened? Did the apples suddenly start talking to you? Is that why you took a pear? Did they tell you they’re actually inhabitants from Mars or something?” Selene smiled because of her friend’s effort to calm her down by making jokes while asking what had happened.

“Not the apples.” she mumbled. Right at that moment Jo Kwon came out of the shop as well. He smiled as he passed, waving at Afreya who gave him a weird look.

“Do I know him?” she asked, turning to Selene, who was staring after the guy. “Hey. Earth calling Selene. Who is he? Is he the one who scared you? Should I follow him and kick his butt?” Selene let out a nervous chuckle.

“That’s Jo Kwon. You know.. 2AM’s Jo Kwon.” she mumbled, immediately dragging her friend into the direction they had to be, so that she couldn’t suddenly go after the poor boy to, very fan-like and hyperactive, ask for his autograph or something. Afreya was indeed looking back, trying to see if her friend was speaking the truth. Selene didn’t even want to look back. It had been the most strange and awkward situation ever, not at all the friendly and calm atmosphere she was used to when meeting celebrities. All her thoughts were fixed on one single thing: reaching the movie theatre in the least possible time.

Luckily they indeed reached the theatre pretty fast and Selene was able to calm down a little again. That’s when she remembered the pear she had bought, so she took a big bite out of it. It was a very tasty pear, holding a bit of juice, but not too much and it wasn’t too soft either. It had been a nice choice and she was glad he had let her have it. Right when she took another big bite out of the tasty pear, she spotted her friends coming towards them. She immediately nudged Afreya and pointed at the group of four girls.

When the two groups reached each other there were a lot of happy shouts and an even bigger lot of hugs. They all greeted each other separately, only to have a group hug after that. Selene was careful not to spill any of the pear’s juice on her friends, but she did actively jump around in happiness. Most of the passer-bys gave them weird looks, but some just smiled as they looked at the happy group of girls in their twenties.

“Aaah I missed you all sooooo much!” Selene finally exclaimed, immediately taking another bite from her pear. It was simply too delicious. The other’s, who all knew her love for fruit, weren’t surprised by this action.

“I missed you all sooooo much as well!” Afreya exclaimed, simply repeating Selene’s words.

“We missed you both too!” the girls exclaimed, hugging their long lost friends again. Selene smiled widely, looking at her friends who she had missed deeply. One of them was Sakura Kobayashi, a classmate from their days in high school. The other three were friends together with whom they had taken dancing lessons: Chinatsu Sato, Kasumi Watanabe and Kana Nishimura.

“So, what movie are we going to watch?” Sakura asked happily, looking around the circle to see what her friends’ reactions would be. Everyone seemed to be clueless, so she turned to Selene, the oldest in the group apart from herself. “Any ideas?” Selene didn’t respond but just blankly stared at the pear she was holding, while slowly munching.

“What’s with her?” Kana asked Afreya, giving Selene a weird look. Normally the second oldest of their group was the one to talk most, but today something seemed a little off.

“Don’t worry. She went to buy a pear and was suddenly faced with Jo Kwon in the store. She’s in a bit of a shock still, I think. She’ll be back to the old Selene in a moment.” Afreya explained, shrugging lightly to show that it was no big deal. Selene would get back to normal soon enough.

“Jo Kwon? Who’s that? Another Korean crush of hers?” Chinatsu asked with a little hint of sarcasm. They all chuckled.

“No. It’s the leader of the Korean band 2AM. We met him at the Star King recording. Did you watch? He was the one talking wannabe-English nonsense that Selene translated into a lot more Korean nonsense.” Afreya then replied. “We were just surprised to see him here. Well, he only waved at me from afar, so I didn’t really get to see him, but Selene had a bit of a shock suddenly meeting him. Besides.. Don’t you know yet? The only crush in her head has written Eunhyuk all over it.” The girls laughed again, dragging Selene with them to the machine where they could buy movie tickets.

“Now what movie are we going to watch?” Sakura asked again, sighing as she looked at the long list of movie names. “I want nothing sad.”

“A comedy?” Kana cleverly suggested. Sakura stuck out her tongue at the younger girl.

“How about a romantic comedy?” Kasumi then suggested, pointing at an interesting looking movie title. They clicked on it and read the description of the movie. The first reaction came from an unexpected corner. Selene suddenly took another bite from her pear and swallowed it almost without munching.

“Let’s go see this movie!” she exclaimed happily. “I like it! We’ll get lots of popcorn and soda and attack people who make too much noise.” When she looked around the group, it was obvious that she had returned to her old self again, sparkling with life and happiness. The girls all agreed, quickly buying tickets for the last row and set off to the little shop where they could buy popcorn and soda. They argued over the size of the box of popcorn they should take, but in the end decided on two giant ones with sugar.

Like that they went to see the movie. The girls had a great time, being together again for the first time since long and like always, it became a very happy, and maybe a little loud, gathering where they all switched places every twenty minutes to be able to sit next to every person at least once. Of course there weren’t much opportunities to talk during a movie, but the girls didn’t really care and just talked when they felt like it. It caused them to get a lot of annoyed looks from other people in the theatre, but it was not as if they cared.

After the great movie, they all went to a restaurant to have a nice dinner. In the end it was almost midnight when the two girls got back home. Selene walked towards her bed and dropped down on it without even thinking about changing clothes. The moment she closed her eyes, she was asleep, leaving the real world to enter the dreamy world of her fantasies.
