Title: Soulmates: Selene
Characters: Eunhyuk, Jo Kwon, SJ, 2AM, OC
Rating: PG
Chaptercount: 5/22
Summary: One unexpected yet scheduled meeting brings with it the start of so much more.
A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

After that assignment, the girls took some time off from their work to visit their parents, meet up with their friends and just be able to relax a little. It had been a few hard months with very busy schedules, so they had decided they deserved some time for themselves. It did indeed make them feel much better, so when they started work again after two weeks, they felt almost reborn, even though they immediately had to travel around the world again.

They often worked separated, to be able to take more jobs, but sometimes it was needed for them to travel together. During those times they would talk about things that had happened on previous flights or just enjoy seeing each other again. One time, Afreya mentioned texting with Leeteuk. When Selene asked on about it, she had gotten the whole story of her friend texting Leeteuk from time to time. She had also texted Hyukjae once, but he hadn’t answered. The memory had made Afreya so worked up that she couldn’t stop talking about it anymore for the rest of the flight.

Selene found herself thinking about Hyukjae and Leeteuk during her friend’s complaining. She did have their numbers as well, but had never contacted them, since she had never really thought about it. They were busy people anyway, so contacting them could also just be bothering them. On the other hand, sending a text like Afreya had done never hurt anyone. She promised herself to text them the next time she was in Korea.

No sooner said than done. The next time her job lead her to Korea, she immediately texted Leeteuk asking how he was. The reply came quite quickly after, telling her he was doing great, that he was glad to hear from her and how she was doing. They had a very random conversation, until she asked him if they had a busy schedule the following days. When his reply came, she thought it a little strange.

‘I do, but Hyukkie doesn’t. Maybe you can contact him to go have a drink. He’ll be delighted to see you again. At least I would be. It’s too bad we can’t meet up.’

After thinking it over a few times, she decided it couldn’t hurt to invite Hyukjae for a drink. Even if he didn’t want to, she had nothing to lose. So she sent him a text as well.

‘Hey arrogant, rich celebrity. I was wondering if you have time to go out and have a drink with a boring, business-like interpreter. That is, if your mood is bright enough to lower yourself to such a thing, of course.’

The reply came only minutes later, just like Leeteuk’s had done. One would think that idols these days actually had busy schedules, but their phones seemed to always be close at hand and they were ready to answer their text all the time, apparently.

‘Great to hear from you! How are you? Are you in Korea? I guess I could find a little empty spot somewhere in my schedule to spend with a boring person like yourself, if you really insist..’

‘I surprisingly am in this very country, yes, and I’m doing quite well. I do insist. Let’s discuss the rest of our personal nonsense over a nice cup of coffee. Where can we go without having to worry about fans and such?’

‘Well.. Would you mind drinking coffee at our dorm?’

And so it had started. She had met up with Hyukjae in the boys’ dorm, being introduced to the few guys who were there at that moment as the ‘very nice, but a little boring interpreter from back in Germany.’ They were introduced to her as ‘his not so very interesting hyungs and dongsengs.’ They had politely said hello to one another, before she and Hyukjae had gone to the kitchen and had talked about all kinds of things while enjoying a cup of coffee. It had been quite late already when she had left, but the time spent with him had been very nice.

After that first meeting, they met up a few more times, all with a few months in between, but it were all very enjoyable and fun times. Hearing her stories about meeting up with Hyukjae, Afreya felt a little sad about never being in Korea so she could never meet up with Leeteuk, but she soon got over it after meeting a very nice Italian celebrity who she took a new interest in. Life went on in a normal way, both girls working their butt off most of the time with a little break here and there, until one day, when out in Korea for an assignment, Selene got a call from Hyukjae.

“Selene, can we talk? Where are you now?” he immediately said when she picked up.

“I’m in Seoul, why? Did something happen?” she quickly replied, feeling anxious and worried because of the urgent tone of his voice.

“What hotel?” He asked, before she had fully finished talking.

“The same as usual. Hyukjae, talk to me. What happened? Is there something bad going on? Did something happen with one of your members? Tell me..”

“No. You don’t have to worry. I’m sorry. Nothing’s wrong. I just want to talk to you, face to face. I’m sorry for making you worry like this.”

“But Hyukjae, this isn’t a very good time. I have a meeting coming up in an hour and my schedule is packed today. Can’t it wait tomorrow?”

“No.”

“Well maybe I can make time for you later this evening, then..”

“I’ll be there in ten minutes.” he cut her off. She stared at her phone when she realized he had hung up on her. What. The. Hell. Lots of big question marks.

Just like he had said, a knock came on her door about ten-fifteen minutes later. She went to open it, stepping aside to let Hyukjae into her room. He walked in, but instead of sitting down like he usually did, he just stopped in the middle of her room and turned to look at her.

“Now what was so urgent?” she asked, a little annoyed because of his weird behaviour, but trying to stay calm and polite.

“Selene, I love you.”

“What!?” Surprisingly, she found herself looking around, searching for any hidden cameras. Of course there were none. Was she taking over his weird habits as well now? “What?” she repeated shocked, looking at him again.

“Saranghae, I love you, aishiteru.” he said, looking so cute while saying it in Japanese that she wanted to make a high sound and pinch his cheek, yet the timing wasn’t really great to do something like that.

“What? Why? I mean how? What?” she instead stuttered, staring at him in blank surprise. He bit his lip, obviously only now getting nervous. He had probably just come to her with the urge to tell her his feelings, or to joke with her, like she was still thinking he was doing. Why else would he say something as ridiculous as ‘I love you’ to her?

“I don’t know why or how, I just do. You’re the only thing on my mind at all time. I love you.”

She was dumbfounded. This confession seemed a hundred percent honest, yet it had come totally out of the blue for her. What was she supposed to say to this? How was she not going to hurt him? What did you say to someone who just confessed to you while you had never thought of the person in such a way. At least not seriously.

“You don’t .. feel the same way.” he concluded out of her silence. His shoulders fell and he seemed to plan on walking out again any moment. To avoid that from happening, she took a step towards him and put her hand on his arm, feeling a little awkward touching him like that.

“How am I supposed to respond to this so fast, Hyukjae? Give me a moment.” she said. His head jerked up upon hearing her words, but she kept talking to avoid him from interrupting her now that she was at least saying something. “It would be a lie to say that I’ve never looked at you in this way, but I never thought it an actual possibility for such feelings to exist within you.”

“Do you like me?” he interrupted her, even though she had tried to keep him from talking.

“You are my friend, yes.”

“But do you like me as more than that?”

“You know a lot of girls think you’re attractive..” she kind of avoided the question.

“Selene..” he seemed to want to drop down on his knees and start begging her for an answer. He looked so pitiful and vulnerable in his current state and it made her heart hurt, so she quickly answered.

“I guess I do.. Somehow..”

“Will you please go out with me?”

“Hyukjae..” she started her attempt to get him to stop asking her such ridiculous questions, but his piercing gaze brought her to silence.

“You’ve got nothing to lose.” he went on persuading her. “It would be like when we normally go for a drink. When there’s really nothing from your side, then you tell me that after.”

She stared at him and he calmly looked back. After going over a few possible things to say, she finally settled with “You’re in Super Junior.” It was his time to stare at her a few moments in complete surprise. “You’re an idol.” she added, trying to get him to understand what exactly she meant. Even if there was a possibility of them loving each other, there still was the fact that he was famous and probably not even allowed to have a girlfriend.

“Does that bother you?” he suddenly said, snapping out of his surprise.

“What?” The confusion was reaching a top.

“Should I leave the group? You want me to quit?”

“What!? No!!” She was genuinely shocked by his question. What did he think she was? She would never make him quit Super Junior! What a ridiculous thought. In fact, he was spouting nothing but ridiculous nonsense at the moment.

“Then what’s the problem? Tell me and I will fix it if I can.”

She stared at him. He was completely serious. No, he was completely out of his mind. What. The. Hell. Of course, she had often looked at him and seen the good-looking young man he was. Often she had thought to herself how cute he was and how much she laughed whenever she was with him, but she had never considered anything like actually dating him or something like that. Having him ask such a thing had been a big shock to her, yet she had immediately seen it in front of her very clearly, Hyukjae and her being together.

“What is wrong, Lene?” he repeated. Oh great, now he was even using a nickname for her. Correction, he was using a very cute nickname for her. The crazy, adorable, incredibly good-looking idiot. What on earth did she have to answer now?

“I.. You..” she started, but she felt her words wouldn’t be enough to convince him of her point of view. The point of view where she saw him as the idol he was with no private life whatsoever and no permission to date whatsoever either. “Nothing’s wrong, I guess.” she finally mumbled, giving in a little.

“Then will you go out with me?”

He didn’t take his eyes off of her for even the slightest moment. She felt more uncomfortable under his stare every second, but she tried not to show it. When she lifted her head to look at him, his intense gaze turned out to be filled with concern and his genuine love for her. Every doubt about him joking with her had left her head long ago. In the end, she sighed deeply, averting her eyes from him again to stare at the ground as she answered.

“I will.”

His arms were around her in a heartbeat, pulling her against him. Beneath her hand, that she had put in between them in a reflex to keep him from coming too close, she felt his heart beating at an insane rate. She felt sorry for him that he had to go through something like this and she felt even more sorry realizing he had gone through all this for her. When he let go of her, she still wasn’t able to look at him, so she quickly walked passed him to her bed to pick up her diary from the little night table. She opened it, trying to find the current date. When she did, she looked for her first free moment. There was none anymore before she had to leave.

“When?” she simply asked him, without looking up because she didn’t feel able to confront his piercing eyes yet.

“Whenever you have time. I don’t care. I’ll move anything on my schedule.” was the immediate reply. She had to swallow, feeling like choking.

“Just tell me when.”

“This evening?”

This evening.. It sounded so incredibly..close. She felt her heartbeat increase to three times the speed it had been beating with. Suddenly she wanted him to hug her and tell her there were no problems, that he wouldn’t let anyone get to her, but at the same time the thought made her freak out even more. Thinking about him being so close with her was frightening her. Besides, even if it wouldn’t sound so scary, she couldn’t expect him to magically know about her doubts and try to chase them away from her.

“I’m free from ten o’clock.”

“This evening?”

“Yes. But tomorrow I have to get up early, so I’d like to be home around midnight.”

“That’s ok. I’ll make sure you will be.”

“Where will we go?”

“I’ll surprise you.”

That’s how she ended up in a taxi cab with him at fifteen passed ten that evening. He had dressed quite casually, wearing a sweater with a hood that he had used to cover his face up a little. It was the first time they actually went out into the city instead of meeting at either her hotel or the boys’ dorm, so it was kind of special in a way.

As she had worked through that day’s schedule, she had noticed how she had looked forward to her meeting with Hyukjae later that day. Spending time with him had become something relaxing for her, something to look forward to. Whenever she was in Korea she would try to find a spot to have a drink with him or simply meet up. Sometimes they only spent fifteen minutes together, but it had always been fun. She had always enjoyed spending time with friends she hadn’t seen in a while and Hyukjae was one of those she could hardly ever see.

“How about you pretend to be together with me for this evening?” he suddenly asked her, talking not too loud so that the taxi driver wouldn’t be able to follow their conversation.

“What? Are you crazy? I don’t want to die because of fans!” she immediately replied, shocked.

“So if there were no fans you wouldn’t mind?” he asked, seeming hopeful. She couldn’t help but smile because of his persistence.

“What do you mean with pretend to be your girlfriend? What should I do different then?”

“Well.. Things like holding hands and sitting a little closer to one another. That sort of stuff.”

“The fans will kill me.”

“They won’t recognize me.”

“That’s what you think.”

“Trust me. Will you just stop worrying so much for this evening and if it all feels wrong or weird, I will accept that you don’t like me that way.”

“But being close with someone I know, with a friend, never feels weird to me.”

“So I can hold your hand?”

“Sure. Just don’t think too much of it.”

He immediately smiled and softly took her hand in his. Without really thinking about it, she intertwined her fingers with his, which seemed to please him. She felt a bit like she was giving a little kid something he really wanted. Comparing Hyukjae to a little kid made her chuckle because he actually did act like one. Her chuckling made him look at her a moment and then simply smile, without asking anything. That made her chuckle some more, but he ignored it or didn’t mind.

The taxi finally stopped and they got out. When Hyukjae had paid and then taken her hand in his again, she turned to look where they had arrived at. The view immediately made her turn back to the taxi, ready to get back in the car while throwing a fit about how dangerous it was for him to come to such a crowded place with her. Han River was the most sought after place to go for couples and people who just wanted to enjoy the view. If there was one place with the most chance that someone was around who would be able to recognize him, it was here. Before she could freak out about that, however, he pulled her back and put a finger on her lips to silence her.

“Don’t worry about fans too much, please. Just enjoy this evening.” he pleaded, giving her such a hopeful look that she didn’t start complaining. When they started walking towards the river, she couldn’t hold back the words she really wanted to say.

“Fine. But when they do recognize you, I will run away as fast as I can.”

He laughed, softly squeezing her hand. It was nice to hear him laugh, because even though they always had fun, the most he had done up till then was just snickering. Really laughing out loud was something he had hardly ever done, although she didn’t know why, because on shows he often just laughed without caring. She looked around her as they approached the river. The sighting was beautiful, being one of the very green places in Seoul.

“Do you want to drink something first or would you rather enjoy the view first and drink later?” he asked her, pointing towards a few little tearooms and restaurants further ahead. She didn’t even take her eyes of the beautiful river to look at them.

“Let’s walk a little first, then we can warm up enjoying a drink later on.” she replied.

So they walked, still holding hands and softly talking. At first it was all about the view, but then their conversation went on about their day and then life in general. Selene soon found herself leaning closer to Hyukjae. He was being very mature, showing a side of him that was really attractive to her. It made her feel like she could rely on him and that he wouldn’t let harm come to her. Selene knew out of experience that that was the kind of boyfriend she needed.

After walking for about an hour, they went into one of the cafés to drink something. They both ordered tea, discovering because of that, that they both enjoyed the same kind of tea. When they had ordered, Selene excused herself and went to the bathroom for a moment. Coming back, she saw a group of three girls walking up to Hyukjae. What had he said? Fans wouldn’t recognize him? Deep sigh. She immediately walked to him, hoping that he hadn’t said anything yet. She faintly remembered telling him she would run away if fans would recognize him, but somehow she didn’t want to just leave him like that.

“Is something wrong?” she asked the girls, while taking the seat across from him. The girls gave her a few surprised looks. “Do you know these girls?” she asked, using Japanese as she turned to Hyukjae. He at least had enough common sense to just look from her to the girls and back at her, before replying with a Japanese ‘no.’

“I’m sorry, but isn’t he Eunhyuk from Super Junior?” one of the girls was brave enough to ask. Selene gave her a weird look, trying to act as natural as possible.

“Eunhyuk?” she repeated. The name felt weird for her to say, which was good because she was supposed to never have heard of it before in her life. “Super Junior? Isn’t that the thirteen member band from around here?”

“Yes. He looks a lot like Eunhyuk. You are Eunhyuk, right?” the girl turned to Hyukjae again while speaking, but he only gave her a blank look as if he didn’t understand her.

“I’m sorry, but my boyfriend is not from Super Junior. I think I would know if he was in a famous band and such. Besides, I don’t think this Eunhyuk person would be allowed to have a girlfriend, let alone go to crowded places like this with her..” She smiled at the girls while saying so. Because she remained calm and serious, they seemed to believe her. They looked at Hyukjae once more, a little doubtful, before apologizing to both of them in Japanese and leaving to their spots again. At that same moment their tea came, so Selene sat down on her chair.

“They thought you were Eunhyuk from Super Junior.” she said to him, still using Japanese. “Silly people.” She laughed shortly to make it seem like a ridiculous thought, but in her heart she felt the fear that the fans would return. For them to be unsuspicious, they would have to keep talking Japanese whenever someone came near and they could certainly not immediately leave the place.

“Thank you.” Hyukjae suddenly said, probably after making sure no one was listening to them anymore. She smiled a little. “You were right.. But I thought you said you would run away?”

“It would have been kind of sad to let the evening end like this.. I was having a good time.” When she said that, a bright smile lit up his face, making him look incredibly adorable and cute, yet very good-looking at the same time. She felt her heart flutter, making her feel a little uncomfortable in front of him. Hoping with all her might that she wasn’t blushing, she picked up her cup of tea to sip from it.
