Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 4/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

Jongwoon sighed as he dropped the lifeless body of the drug deprived junkie who had become that day’s meal. He spared the corpse no other look as he darted away through the trees, soon finding Kyuhyun who had also just finished draining the woman he had found somewhere in the suburbs of the city. They both stared down at the body for a moment before sharing a look.. Kyuhyun sighed deeply and then averted his eyes again.
“How were you able to stand it, hyung? Killing these people while knowing you were once one of them..” he then mumbled, his voice laced with disgust and guilt. Jongwoon could only smile understandingly and pat him on the shoulder.
“When you’ve kept from feeding for a while because you thought you couldn’t get yourself to kill another human being, you soon find out that killing isn’t all that hard when you’re very hungry.” he replied softly, thinking back to the first few people he killed. “It helps to take those that you feel don’t deserve to live, because it eases your conscious and you don’t feel as guilty knowing that you at least did not kill a complete innocent.” A soft sigh escaped his lips. “It remains hard, though..” he then mumbled. “Sometimes you might think you’d rather die than kill another person, but when it comes down to things, our instincts are set on surviving more than on being ethnically correct.”
As his thoughts wandered over the things that happened from the day he was changed up to the events of that day himself, he couldn’t help thinking about the girl he had been following around every evening and who, as Kyuhyun had so smartly figured out only after seeing his memories, was no other than his daughter; Kim Chaera. He wondered if she had seen his face when he had dragged Kyuhyun away and if she still had any memories left of him? Because at the time of the car accident, she had been only eight years old.
She had grown up to become a nice young woman of eighteen now, but this only made him more set on keeping an eye on her when she went out late at night, since he couldn’t help thinking that every man up to no good who passed her by would of course want to try and victimise her. Jongwoon felt himself responsible for her still and he could do nothing else than watch over her and make sure things like that never happened.
At the same time as he was thinking over those thoughts, Kyuhyun was thinking over the memories again that had been so distant and strange mere hours ago, being those of another person, but that seemed to have somehow turned into a bit more of his own memories, with flashes of the events as they had happened from his point of view. The strangest and scariest of those changes in his mind was the vague memory of him walking through some street when someone suddenly grabbed his arm and pulled him into the shadows. Although that was the end of the memory, he was pretty sure that it was a part of the day he had been changed.

Donghae and Youngwoon waited another minute after Hyukjae disappeared from the room, before getting up and rushing to the door themselves. They peaked into the hallway, making sure that no one was there, and then quickly slipped out of the room. A little unsure of what was to happen next now that their guide was gone, Donghae trusted on whatever Hyukjae had let Youngwoon achieve by biting his arm, and simply followed the bigger male through the hallway. They took a turn to the left, then somewhere the right and soon found themselves in front of what looked like a door to the outside.
“Okay, Donghae, listen carefully.” Youngwoon said, his hand already on the door handle, but not yet opening it. “Whatever happens, don’t panic and don’t run. Some of the vampires here are allowed to go out and since we are able to walk in the sun, they will not be suspicious of us and will think that our ‘training’ -or whatever they call it here- has already been finished. So just stay calm and let me do the talking. If we even have to do any talking.” Donghae found himself unable to do anything but nod at these orders and smiled a bright smile at the other.
“When we get out of here, remind me to give you a great big hug.” he said happily, making Youngwoon frown.
“I’d rather you not. I don’t like hugging very much.” he retorted, pushing down the handle and walking out the door. It was still strange for him to walk into sunlight and no get hurt, so he tensed up a little the moment he felt the fiery bolt warm his face.
“That’s exactly why I’m going to hug you.” Donghae retorted, giving Youngwoon a friendly slap on his shoulder and flashing another happy grin his way. The elder rolled his eyes, giving Donghae a friendly push against his shoulder as he walked on.
They were walking on something that looked much like a driveway, spreading out all the thirty-something metres to the gate, where some four people stood calmly, obviously the guards or some kind of protectors of the gate. Donghae, who decided they should look as calm and open as anyone that was up to nothing special, continued their rather random conversation about hugs and slapping friends while showing off his happy grin some more.
They passed by the guards without problems, no one even gave them a second glance, and walked onto the street that lay right behind the gate. A little surprised that the building seemed to be in the middle of a city, they followed the road a little, before Youngwoon suddenly nudged the other’s shoulder and pulled him into a side road, where they both took a giant leap onto the roof to then distance themselves from the building as fast as possible, as far as possible.

Siwon calmly made his way past the countless people trying to see what was going on. In front of him was Ryeowook, another one of the trusted Daywalkers, who was making everyone step aside so they could get through. Ryeowook needed no more than his strong, piercing gaze to make them all step aside, for he had a quite intriguing look and most of them knew what he was capable of. It wouldn’t be the first time that Ryeowook threw someone against the wall just because that someone was standing in his way.
With a small, polite smile on his face, Siwon entered the room, where the vampire-gone-berserk was still glaring at the few people that were left in the space. With a slight wave of his hand, Ryeowook dismissed them all and then closed the door behind them, so that no one would be able to listen in on the conversation. Not that many would understand, since the guy had been blabbering in Chinese ever since he had taken his nurse hostage, but that was a mere detail. Siwon eyed the vampire that was pressed into a corner of the room, away from the sunlight, with a polite smile, nodding shortly. A series of vulgar Chinese curses were sent his way, making him frown slightly and cock his head to the side.
“I am here to listen to what you have to say and translate it.” he calmly said in very accented, but still (or so he hoped) understandable Chinese. The eyes of the other vampire immediately flashed to his face and a soft hiss escaped from the other.
“I just want to know how the hell I got here and why there are creepy nurses and doctors surrounding me that seem to want something from me. I don’t believe this bullcrap about me coming here to ask for help, so don’t even try that lie on me. I want the truth.” the foreign man then spat at him, grasping the male nurse that was appointed to take care of him tightly by the shoulders. The poor man looked terrified and whimpered in the strong grip the vampire had on him. He was a mere human and he obviously would like to stay that way too.
“You are here as part of a project where they try to help vampires to lead a more normal life. Many tests preceded this operation and now they are able to turn us into Daywalkers, vampires who don’t have to fear the sunlight anymore.” Siwon calmly replied in Chinese, causing Ryeowook to hiss when he caught the name of their newly developed race. His fingers tightened around Siwon’s wrist and he pulled the taller man down towards him.
“What are you telling him, Siwon?” he hissed in Korean, narrowing his eyes and frowning. “The only thing he needs to know is that he should remain calm and certainly not bite the nurse, because that might just destroy him..and I’m not talking about the human now.” Ryeowook turned his piercing gaze to the foreign vampire, frowning and cocking his head to the side a little. There was a short, very tense silence, before the frailest of the three suddenly smiled a very friendly smile. “Ask him if he wants to feed while we talk. He looks drained.”
Siwon translated the question to the foreign vampire, but did also make sure that the other realised they were not going to let him eat nurses when they said ‘feeding.’ There was short moment of decision, before the vampire agreed with that idea. Siwon then reached out a hand, palm upwards, and sent another polite smile the foreigner’s way. After another moment of hesitation, the vampire released his grip on the nurse, stepped forward and took the hand, giving it one single shake before letting go again. While Ryeowook tended to the shocked nurse, the other two calmly walked out of the room, passed all the curiously staring gazes and on to the blood room.

Sang Mi felt relief wash over her the moment she felt the arm around her waist and heard his enchanting voice speak her name. She looked up at the slightly taller man next to her, putting a hand on the one that rested on her hip, and felt her face break into a smile the moment their eyes met. He kindly pulled her along with him, out of the door, and they strolled away into no real set direction. She let the silence between them live on for a while, before breaking it.
“You should not go running to unknown places on your own without letting me know.” she lectured him, but her voice didn’t sound as convinced and strict as it should have done. He showed off one of his signature happy smiles, that made her forget about every bad thing he could have done, and then he teasingly poked her cheek.
“I know you can’t live without me, but you should try at times.” he said with a chuckle, causing her to make a protesting sound and then grin as well herself. He muzzled his nose against her cheek and she almost giggled as she struggled out of his grip. When she ran out a few paces, he easily caught up with her, wrapping both arms around her and pulling her back against his chest, after which he rested his chin on her shoulder. “Some guy pulled me into his room when we were making our way to the ruckus.” he then mumbled.
She felt a shiver run through her spine when his breath touched her ear and her heart sped up several beats per minute. She vainly hoped that he wouldn’t notice, but of course his enhanced senses picked up the acceleration and he laughed softly, tightening his grip around her waist for a moment. “You should not be seduced by the vampire you’re taking care of, you know.” he mumbled in her ear, chuckling slightly. She blushed a bright red.
“Hyukjae.” she protested weakly, trying to break free from his grip. It was, of course, an already lost battle because there was no way a mere human could be stronger than a vampire. He did let go with one arm, but only to stroke her cheek almost tenderly, causing another shiver to run through her spine. That’s when he let out a happy laugh and ruffled her hair, breaking through the whole tensed atmosphere as he let go of her completely.
“If only you could see your own face!” he told her, grinning widely and pinching her cheek. With a huff, she slapped his hand away, but couldn’t help smiling herself. Suddenly his expression turned serious again. “This guy who pulled me into his room..he could walk in sunlight, but I’m convinced he is someone like me as well.” he then told her. “Are you finally going to tell me what I’m really doing here, because I’m slowly getting tired of all the lies.”
She felt her face flush again when he mentioned the other vampire and the fact that she had been telling him lies. They were of course the things she had been taught to tell him; He had chosen to come here and had asked them to help him, they were only going to make him better and then he could go out again if he wanted and live his life again. But she had known for a while already that he didn’t buy any of those lies. She saw it in his eyes every time she lied, that flicker of anger and disappointment because she was still not truthful to him. More often than not it left her with a feeling of guilt.
“Fine.” she sighed. “I will tell you.” His face lit up with a bright smile and he pulled her into a hug again, which she quickly struggled herself out of, putting her hand on his chest and pushing him back a little. “I just have one question..” she then told him, cocking her head to the side a little. He eyed her questioningly, encouraging her to ask it without words. “That guy who pulled you into his room.. Did he happen to be one of the two you were helping to escape right before I found you?”
