[FIC] Memories

Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 17/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

It hadn’t taken long for everyone to get acquainted to each other, Li Yin introducing the few people who had no clue who everyone were to the rest of the group. They hadn’t gotten a lot of time to come up with fancy stories, because before Li Yin had finished introducing Zhou Mi to the whole group, Jongwoon had suddenly flinched and Kyuhyun had unconsciously edged closer to the other vampire, the two of them sneaking glances around. The stranger – his name was Donghee, but Shindong would work too as to not confuse him with Donghae – didn’t look all too comfortable either.

“It’ll be sunrise soon. We have to find a place to stay until the sun goes down.” Jongwoon then spoke up, which cleared all confusion about their edginess. “I’m guessing most of you learned that little trick of walking around in the sun without being harmed? Kyuhyun and I haven’t figured it out yet, though. We need to get a place to stay.” The friendly gathering turned into a moving chaos in instants, everyone trying to get everyone to move. In the end it – surprisingly – was Heechul who got them all to listen.

“There’s a place downtown where we can hide for the day, or at least until we get these guys some sunscreen clothes. I’ll take the lead, it’s not that far away. We’ll use roofs in order to bypass any early humans. We don’t want to be seen in such a large group.” he spoke calmly, making everyone nod in understanding. “Li Yin, love, you go last. If anyone falls behind you’ll be able to lead them there as well, okay?” The woman smiled, leaning in to press a soft kiss on his lips.

The next moment Heechul was already climbing up the roof of the house Zhou Mi had crashed into earlier. The three people not able to walk in the sun quickly followed after him and even Hangeng followed without another word or question. In the end it were just Zhou Mi and Li Yin standing in the alley still, the woman looking at Zhou Mi with a slightly sad expression on her face. He stared back almost emotionlessly, refusing to go up the roof, not wanting to go anywhere with that group. But she walked up to him, smiled shortly and put a hand on his cheek.

“Zhou Mi..” she then spoke in Chinese and like every time before he realised how much she sounded like his mother, his resolution already crumbling under her kind smile. “We’re not the bad guys, okay. Things changed while you were gone. The orders you got to kill Hangeng were a fraud. The Facility is a mess right now with Misun dethroned. If you want I can stay here with you and explain you everything before we go, but there’s a lot of things involved in this and there are more pressing matters than the Facility – believe it or not.”

He looked at her for a while longer, clenching his teeth. It surprised him that Heechul had not yet ordered him to follow them, but then he remembered the vampire’s earlier words. ‘If anyone falls behind you’ll be able to lead them there as well, okay?’ he had told Li Yin. That had not been about possibly slower people, that had always been about him. Were they giving him a choice? What was going on, really? And right then, his curiosity won from his need to get away from them. “What kind of things? Why is Heechul so dead set on keeping me around without hurting me even when he’s as angry as he was earlier?”

“There’s things you don’t know about, didi, things you don’t remember.” Li Yin smiled at him as she said that, running her hand through his hair before taking a step back. “You and Heechul once were almost as close as he and Geng are. All of you were friends, actually. The whole group that went after Heechul just now; they’re all people you knew once. And they still know you, like you could see when Kyuhyun clung to you. We’re trying to get everyone’s memories back, we’re trying to make things normal again, but we need your help for it.” She looked at him a moment longer, before stepping up to the wall, ready to climb up as well. “So are you coming with us or not?”

It didn’t take long for everyone to get into the apartment. Heechul had clarified on the way that it was one of the many places he owned throughout the country so they would not be disturbed by the usual habitants of the building. There wasn’t much furniture inside the room, but surprisingly Heechul did have a fridge with a stack of blood packs there. He casually threw one to each of them, Hangeng excluded, telling them they obviously needed to feed. It was true that most of the Nightwelps had blood red eyes as none of them really had the time to feed throughout their travels. But Jongwoon was probably the most drained one and it was a surprise he hadn’t assaulted a random human yet.

They each found a place to sit down, Hangeng and Heechul blending into the other group that could remember them, digging up memories of back in the day and laughing over silly things they recalled. Shindong was the only one sitting a little to the side, back leaning against the wall, eyes closed. It didn’t take long for Jongwoon to get up and find himself a spot next to the other, still taking slow sips from the blood pack, letting his drained body get used to the intake of blood again. Even though they both knew the other was there, neither of them uttered a word, just sitting there in silence, lost in their own thoughts.

It was about an hour after they had all entered when there came a knock on the door. Heechul was at it in moments, opening it to let Li Yin in. She immediately walked past him, followed by Zhou Mi, who had his eyes focused on Li Yin’s back, not even looking at the others. The tall vampire walked past everyone, sitting down on the couch. The next thing they knew he slumped back, asleep in seemingly no time at all. For a moment everyone stared at him, surprise edged on their faces, but then all eyes went to Heechul.

“Did you order him to sleep?” Li Yin asked him, voice low. The only reply was a shake of the head and immediately everyone looked at knocked out the redhead again. The first to break the silence was Jongwoon, seemingly unaffected by it all. “You should tell him to remember. Order him. That’s how we got Ryeowook and Youngwoon to remember. I think the reason you all forgot was because of your first sire’s order. It’s not irreversible. If you order him to remember, he will when he wakes up. Speaking of which, we should all get some sleep in.”

Heechul eyed Jongwoon for a moment, before looking at Hangeng and Li Yin. When both of them nodded, he nodded as well, giving the silent order to Zhou Mi and then turning to the others. “There’s a bed in the other room where about three of you can sleep. Two more would fit on the couch, although it’s not going to be a comfortable sleeping position. The others will have to sleep on the ground, I guess?” A few nods followed his words, Ryeowook, Donghae and Youngwoon quickly claiming the bed. Kyuhyun, however, was fine with sleeping on the couch too. Shindong had slept not long before and the other four had better things to do.

Once everyone had found their place to sleep, it didn’t take long for all of them to slump down like Zhou Mi had done, passed out in a blink. Immediately the eyes of the three Daywalkers went to the two Nightwelps. Shindong opened his eyes and then inclined his head towards Jongwoon. “He’s the one you have to stare at.” he calmly stated. “I just foresee the future, I don’t make people sleep even when they don’t want to.” To that, the other smiled, patting Shindong’s knee.

“You’ve become quite perceptive.” he then said jovially, before stretching his limbs. “They need their sleep and I don’t want them to have nightmares. Kyuhyun’s been having plenty of them ever since I made him remember the past. We can’t afford them to wake up more tired than when they went to bed.” He smiled at no one in particular. “We need to gather everyone. Is there anyone else you know the whereabouts of? Kibum? Sungmin? Henry? Jungsoo?” Suddenly Heechul froze, as if realising something, and the next moment he was dialling a number already.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

Sungmin breathed in and out shallowly, trying to not explode into a long range of words. They were waiting for someone. Backup, as Kibum had called it, but he had no idea who it would be. As the seconds ticked past there was a feeling of uncertainty inside of him, a doubt that maybe the people or person they were waiting for was not going to help him. Had he not trusted Henry either and had the younger vampire – although unconsciously – not lead him to the woman who was now holding Henry captive? Why was he trusting Kibum, who he hadn’t even known for a full day?

“They’re here.” Kibum suddenly said, stepping forward and easily reaching out a hand to him to guide him. “There’s a lot, but don’t be afraid. They don’t mean you any harm.” he spoke softly, before stepping out into the open. At first Sungmin was convinced there was no one around, but the next moment vampires appeared like raindrops, surrounding them, forming a circle around them. There were indeed a lot. A quick turn and count letting him know there were exactly nine, all looking well-rested and sated.

Suddenly the tall red-haired vampire shot towards him and he already bared his fangs, ready to defend himself, but instead of attacking, the redhead was right in time to crash into one of the other vampires, wrapping slender arms around him and pulling him back in line. “No, Kuixian, you’re not going to freak him out like you did with me. He doesn’t. know. you.” the redhead then spoke in accented but melodious Korean, making some of the others chuckle shortly.

“You’re late.” Kibum then told Heechul calmly. “You said you’d be here in thirty minutes. It’s five hours later, the sun is down, Sungmin wants to move.” To that, Heechul snorted, sending a look at the vampire to his right as if communicating an ‘I told you so.’ to him. The other vampire merely smiled, taking a small step forward and bowing his head in greeting. He then let his eyes wander over Kibum’s body, before studying Sungmin. When he seemed satisfied – Sungmin was already fidgeting by then – he finally opened his mouth to talk.

“I’m sorry we’re late. I convinced Heechul to give the others more time to sleep as we went looking for clothes to cover our friends with in case the sun rises. It took us some time to figure out then where exactly the two of you had decided to hide and it was only after that when we finally woke the others up to leave.” he apologised to Kibum, before turning to Sungmin. “You also have to forgive our friends, but they know you and it is rather hard to contain the excitement that seeing you again brings us. We know you don’t remember us, however, so we’re trying our best to stay normal.” He seemed to more be ordering the others to hold it back instead of relaying what they were already doing, but the whole situation was weird already anyway.

“It’s okay..” Sungmin hesitantly answered, before hardening himself. “Look, I don’t want to look like a pushover, but I’d really like to leave now. That witch has had Henry in her claws for almost a day now, I don’t want to leave him with her any longer. With so many of us we can just overwhelm her and rescue him.” He looked around the group, meeting eyes of people that knew him but whom he had never seen before in his life. “We have no time to lose anymore.” he then concluded. Right then, a female vampire suddenly appeared at their side and the first thing Sungmin noticed was her heartbeat, loud and clear.

“He’s right.” she spoke. “We have no time to lose. I brought the scarves you asked for.” After those words, she turned to look at Kibum and smiled shortly. “Hello there, Kibum.” A short bow was accompanied with a flash of her fangs and the dangerous vibe that emanated from her did not go unnoticed by either of the two in the middle. The next moment she was going around handing thin, black scarves to everyone present as if nothing had happened. “We’re going to get Henry, but we need a strategy.”

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

“The one and only.” the woman replied, her smile widening a little. “And you’re Lee Hyukjae, also known as the facility’s mind reader.” He smiled at that, nodding shortly. “Surprisingly I am.” he then replied, before nodding in Sang Mi’s direction. “Would you mind explaining what happened with her? If she’s not a vampire, then how did she get burned by the sun like that?” He narrowed his eyes as he turned to look at the nurse. “And why did you attack Siwon anyway?”
The silence that suddenly filled the room was almost deafening. Sang Mi was staring into Hyukjae’s eyes without saying a word, Misun was looking at him with a perplexed expression and Siwon had edged a little away from him all of a sudden. He glanced around the room, trying to understand what had them backing away, but suddenly he realised how tense all his muscles were and how he seemed ready to attack any moment.

‘Green? What a curious colour.’ Misun said in a soft tone, her voice sounding pensive. ‘I’ve never seen that happen before, eyes turning green. So Sang Mi wasn’t lying about it last time?’ Moments later Sang Mi’s voice sounded up as well. ‘Oh gosh, they’re green again. So captivating. I have to look away, but.. But I can’t. Why doesn’t Siwon pull his attention? Can’t he see that Hyukjae’s ready to attack? Is he going to let him? What’s going on?’ Right as he was going to answer that, Siwon’s voice suddenly boomed through everything else in his head, so loud he physically jumped.

When he turned to look at the other, however, his lips were not moving, and neither had Misun’s and Sang Mi’s. In fact, he suddenly realised, he was not hearing them talk but think. For a moment longer he endured Siwon’s voice booming in his mind, but then the pressure got too much to handle and he mentally lashed out, pushing Siwon’s voice away from him. The next thing he knew, Siwon was sent flying through the room, only barely recovering in time to make sure he didn’t crash into the wall.

The next thing he knew, there were hands cupping his face, brown eyes looking deep into his and then someone was kissing him. He sputtered in shock, pulling his head back and pushing the person away immediately. When he recovered enough to see who was in front of him, he realised it was Sang Mi. What he also realised was that the strange hyper awareness was gone and his muscles had relaxed. He was breathing heavily, quickly taking a step away from Sang Mi and edging closer to the window.

“This is not the time to go around killing off your friends, Hyukjae.” Misun calmly spoke, walking over to Siwon and helping him up from the ground. That amount of energy must have captured Jack’s attention. We have no time to lose, we need to get out of here. Is there anything in your room that you still want? Anything you don’t think you can miss for the following few weeks – if not months?” Her words were calm, a determined expression set on her face.

“Nothing.” Hyukjae replied, voice nothing more than a whisper as he carefully walked up to Siwon. He hadn’t meant to hurt the other, but had merely wanted to stop that voice from screaming in his head. Siwon eyed him with some uncertainty, however, and the only thing he knew to do was step closer and offer an apologetic smile. The only reply to that was Siwon bowing his head shortly. Somehow that hurt more than anything else would have done, but he took it, turning away to look at Misun then.

“Who’s Jack? Why do we have to go?” he then questioned, his voice slightly rough. To that, Misun looked up at him. “There’s a lot to explain, but for now I can tell you that the Facility is no longer in my hands. Jack went rogue and he’s dead set on eliminating every vampire alive. We have to get you out of here. I have been on the phone with some of my friends and we have exactly six hours to get to a place ten hours away from here. We have no time to waste. Let’s go.”
