[FIC] Memories

Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 18/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

A dark shape made its way through the trees, wandering from one point to the next, the person obviously trying to stay unnoticed but failing terribly at it. More than occasionally small sticks would snap under her feet and rushing of the trees and bushes would announce her presence. If there were any animals around, she would’ve certainly scared them off already, but luckily for her – or not? – there were no animals left in the neighbourhood. In fact, there was not much left at all in this area that lay so close to the border.

All of a sudden, a second dark shape appeared at her side and the next moment she felt something seep into her through her neck, making her body go limp. She whimpered as she sank down into a pair of strong arms, but was silenced a moment later by a hand being pushed over her mouth. “Not a sound.” someone hissed at her in a husky voice, the sound more of a growl than actual words, but she understood them anyway, because the hand made it pretty obvious what was expected of her.

The next thing she knew, she was pulled on someone’s back, being carried away from where she stood and deeper into the forest. She passed by so many trees she could hardly keep up with counting them anymore and by the time she was finally put down, whatever had gone down her body had completely paralysed her. If she had any clue about what was going on, she’d probably die soon. That was all she knew.

“What’s this?” a voice suddenly spoke up and her assailant stopped. She realised they had entered a room, just as dark as the forest, just as lonely.

“A lone traveller.” her assailant spoke then with that husky voice of before. There was a short silence, her heartbeat speeding up, and then: “Are you sure she travels alone?” For a moment time seemed to stop, but then people streamed into the room, filling the empty spaces with their presence, making her feel less lonely and scared almost immediately. She breathed a sigh of relief, and then slumped against her captor, feeling faint.

“You people…” a cold voice suddenly filtered through the darkness and she could feel everyone tense up around her. “Did you never learn how to not sneak around at night?” The air in the room went colder all of a sudden and footsteps sounded up. The next thing she knew, a hand took hold of her arm and she was pulled against a different body, that of a woman. A very dangerous woman. The movement brought the other vampire, her assailant, in her line of sight, however, and if she had been able to actually move more than her eyes, she would have gasped out loud.

The next moment, she sensed how someone started to move, but then stopped again as if held back by invisible boundaries or an inaudible voice. The atmosphere was tense and everything went silent. No one was breathing except for her and time seemed to go infinitely slower. She closed her eyes for a moment, and then found herself unable to open them. She panicked inside, but had no way of making that feeling clear to the outside world. All she could do was wait and hope that everything would pass well.

“I suggest you keep your distance.” the cold voice of the woman behind her then sounded up again, seeming unaffected by the amount of hostile vampires in the same room with her. “I have three of your friends here and it’ll only take me one word to kill them. So you better don’t make any wrong moves.” The amusement in the woman’s voice was almost maniacal and it was obvious she was not going to have any second thoughts about saying that one word.

Donghae was nervously pacing back and fro on a small open space in the forest. His eyes were focused on the ground in front of him while some of the people around him eyed him with a frown. In the end, Kyuhyun reached out, took hold of his hand and pulled him down. “Please just sit and stop moving around so much, you’re making us even more nervous.” the youngest of the group stated, wrapping an arm around his hyung’s shoulders in order to keep him from getting up again.

“I can’t help it, Kyu.” Donghae sighed, covering his face with his hands. “Our friends are out there trying to save little Henry from some crazy witch with who knows how many crazy friends and we’re just sitting here, doing nothing.” He was obviously close to pulling out his own hair trying to keep himself from running in on the scene.

“We’re not doing nothing, Hae.” a different voice sounded up then, Hangeng looking up from the phone in his hands and smiling slightly. “You’ll be going in once Heechul gives the sign. You’re needed for the element of surprise. Like you said, we don’t know how many others there are aside from the woman, so we have to be careful. But you’re not doing nothing.”

“Yeah, if anyone would be doing nothing, that’d be his lazy ass.” Kyuhyun spoke then, giving a short nod in Hangeng’s direction. “He’s the one staying behind through all of it.” The maknae rolled his eyes at that, which earned him a scowl from Jongwoon and an invisible order that made him roll his eyes again before reluctantly stating a “Sorry hyung.” The next moment every bit of humbleness left him and he sighed. “Geez, Jongwoon, it was just a joke! Never heard of those before? Loosen up a little.”

Zhou Mi and Donghae were grinning already, however, and the first looked up at Jongwoon as well. “I love it so much better when you have control over him. All his snarky comments rebound back to him now.” he stated, making a smile appear on everyone’s faces, except for Kyuhyun’s.

“I hate it like this. Why didn’t you give up your siredom on me like Wookie did with Kang- I mean Youngwoon hyung?” the maknae questioned then, making Jongwoon look at him shortly, before focusing on their surroundings again.

“To prevent you from running off to join the battle like you wanted to when Sungmin said he was going. You want to save Henry as much as all of us, even more than all of us – except for him. I know why you’re so extremely clingy to all of us, Kyuhyun, don’t make me say it out loud, you know you don’t want the others to know.” he then stated, as calmly as if he was discussing the weather. The younger visibly stiffened, however, his eyes finding the other’s back, a wondering expression on his face, but he didn’t utter another word.

“So how much longer are you going to sit here and argue?” Kibum suddenly spoke up, looking from one at the other. “You all seem to know each other pretty well, so could anyone explain to me why I don’t remember anything?” His eyes went from one to the other, until they stopped on Hangeng. “And why is it that you’re the one seemingly leading this bunch together with Heechul? Didn’t this band we’re all supposed to have been a part of have a different leader?”

Suddenly all heads turned to look at Kibum, surprise edged on their faces. “You don’t remember?” Donghae asked in surprise, making the model shake his head and shrug. “I know you guys because as long as I remember people have been treating me like an ex-member of Super Junior, so I looked up some information about you g- well us, really. I guess now I know why I could not remember you.” he replied, making the others nod in understanding.

“To answer your question..” Shindong suddenly spoke up, the first thing he said ever since the whole group had come together. “The action is going to start right about now.” And indeed, right then Zhou Mi got up without a sound, turning around and starting to walk away, making the other three members of the backup group follow after him immediately. For a moment there was silence between the three remaining people, but then Hangeng calmly replied to the still unanswered question of the model.

“Yes, we used to have a different leader, but no one knows where he is or if he’s still alive.”

Youngwoon was standing more to the side of the room, in the corner the furthest away from the exit. They had figured that if anything would go wrong, he’d be the most able to just break his way through the cement to get out. Ryeowook was to his right, considered to be the most agile of them all and ready to run in whichever direction needed. Sungmin stood in the middle, being the one with the most fighting experience and the biggest will to kill whoever got in his way of saving Henry. And lastly there was Heechul, closest to the entrance, ready to call in the backup troops if they thought it necessary. Youngwoon was kind of beginning to think it necessary now.

“So… Sungmin, my dear. I see you brought some backup, huh? How nice of you to bring the friends around. Looks like you found a few very interesting comrades, huh? Our strong Kangin, sweet Ryeowook and the unforgettable Heechul. Impressive. I’m surprised you didn’t bring the dancing machine and our bratty maknae Kyuhyun. It would’ve been amusing to see the reunion between them and their beloved. So where did you find these friends of yours anyway? I haven’t seen them in years..”

The woman stepped forward a little, seeming completely relaxed. Even though the whole room was completely dark without a trace of light from the outside world, Youngwoon’s enhanced sight made him able to still see everything clearly. Behind the woman was a guy dressed in dark clothing with nothing but his eyes showing, two bolts of liquid red fire. He was holding Li Yin in his grip, the one they had used as diversion, but something was incredibly wrong, because instead of taking out the vampire like she was supposed to, she had gone limp in the black guy’s grip.

“Where’s Henry?” Sungmin suddenly asked, his voice nothing more than a growl. The woman merely chuckled at that.

“Oh, Ming, always the charmer. Very sexy voice you got there.” she spoke, carelessly walking even closer until she stood in front of the vampire. She ran her fingers over his cheek, sending him a dangerous smile that showed off her fangs. “Henry is alive, don’t worry about it. I wouldn’t kill my pets when they can still be useful to me. After all, if he were dead, you’d kill me in an instant, right? But you need me to get to him, trust me on that one.” Her smile turned cold as she calmly turned away and walked up to Heechul.

“And Heechul, you’re still alive as well? Tsk. You’re the only one I’d love to have lost by now.” she poked a finger against his shoulder and sent him an almost murderous smile. “If you behave I might spare your cute little girlfriend over there. Oh don’t give me that surprised look, you’re all over her scent. Bad idea to give it away like that. Good for me, though, so I don’t really mind.” Heechul visibly stiffened at that, ready to attack, but something kept him from doing so. Something, Youngwoon figured, that had red hair, went by the name of Zhou Mi and just so happened to be Heechul’s sire.

“So, what brings you guys to visit me?” the woman calmly continued as she turned away from Heechul and walked back to her helper with Li Yin still motionless in his arms. “She’s paralysed, by the way, Chullie dear, she’s not going to move until my cute pet here allows her to. So it’s no use trying to get her to move by glaring at her. You can just as well glare at me, I’ll do your eyes much more good.” The amused chuckle that followed was more like a cackle and with every passing minute, Youngwoon found he liked the woman less and less. She was obviously crazy. Mentally deranged. It was also obviously time to make her shut the hell up, otherwise Heechul or Sungmin was going to snap and they couldn’t risk Li Yin’s life.

“I didn’t think so, bitch.” Heechul suddenly said with so much hatred in his voice one would almost be able to cut ice with it. The next moment the whole room seemed to light up in a blinding flash of power and when Youngwoon was able to see again, Heechul was pressed against the wall of the room, the woman glaring at him. She shot forward, hands stretched out, ready to rip out his throat, but right then their backup arrived and when the woman’s hand connected with flesh, it was not Heechul’s throat, but Jongwoon’s hands, his eyes piercing into hers.

Suddenly the woman let out a wailing sound and pulled free, taking several steps back. “Jongwoon.” she said, every inch of coldness gone and replaced by surprise, care and disbelief. “Jongwoon-ah you’re not with them..” she then continued. “You’re not with them.. Tell me you’re not.. You can’t be..” Her voice cracked at those words and Youngwoon was pretty sure she had been reduced to tears by the mere sight of his friend.

“We’re late.” Misun stated the obvious, but there was no answer. They were running at top speed, trying to make it to the meeting place in time. They had about twenty minutes left of running, but it was a miracle they had made it so far in only six hours. Usually one would do four more hours over the same distance. It was surprising they had been running so fast, what with Hyukjae having to carry Sang Mi on his back as well – she still didn’t trust Siwon enough for it.

“So…” Hyukjae suddenly spoke up, not slowing down his pace one moment. “Since we’ve been running for hours now, could you at least give us some answers before we get wherever we have to be and things get hectic again? I’d still like to know why Sang Mi’s hand burned in the sun if she’s not a vampire. And it’d also be kind if you could explain me how it comes that you seem to know more about me than I do myself.” His voice was rather cold. Sang Mi would’ve probably scolded him for it if she had been awake. Instead, her head rested on his shoulder, eyes closed, covered in clothing to protect her from the sun when they had left.

For a moment Misun remained silent, as if thinking over if she should reply to him or not, but before he could demand answers, she glanced at him shortly and then started speaking. “There’s only so many answers I can give you, Hyukjae-ssi. Some other things are for you to find out yourself. I’m afraid that if I force you into the knowledge, you might not want to accept it.” She held back on speed in order to get to run in between him and Siwon, making sure they’d be able to understand her.

“Sang Mi is human, but she has suffered from photosensitivity ever since she was young. It’s what you vampires have, only less life threatening; an allergy to sunlight. She doesn’t just tan a little when exposed to sunlight, she immediately gets burned. If exposed to very intense sunlight, her skin will burn so badly it can get real bad, like what you saw today.” Misun glanced at Sang Mi for a moment, sighing slightly. “Her allergy was less bad when she was young, but ever since she came to the facility, I’ve been treating her for it, so now her skin is not used to being unprotected anymore, so sunlight causes her more damage.”

“Treating her? How exactly?” Siwon spoke up at that. “As far as I know, photosensitivity has no medicine that suddenly allows people to walk in sunlight as freely as Sang Mi did over the past few years. The best scientists have been able to come up with so far is something that protects them against very limited sunlight. They usually still need long sleeved shirts and all that. Nothing like how exposed Sang Mi has been to sunlight. She should’ve been burned by now.” He sounded really surprised – and informed – but Misun’s reply was a soft laugh.

“Siwon, dear, you forget who you’re talking to.” she then scolded amusedly. “Aren’t you able to walk into the sunlight yourself? You think I just found the formula for that treatment somewhere and decided: ‘Hey, let’s use this on vampires, see if it works?’ I admit that Jack gave me some guidelines on the vampires part, but what I did is basically use the formula that protects against UV-light and upgrade it a little for vampire use. Once I figured that one out, it wasn’t hard to create something that would help Sang Mi.”

She smiled lightly, apparently thinking back to her scientific discoveries. “The only downside is that with how the human body constantly regenerates, I have to keep treating her or the formula will disappear from her system. Since vampires don’t regenerate, they only need to be given a few doses before they’re done. But there is a way to undo the treatment with them and reduce them to ashes in the blink of an eye – as you know, Siwon.” Before anyone could answer to that crude statement, she shot forward again. “We’re here.”
