Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 11/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

They were all still staring in shock, when the newcomer at the door moved in, grabbing Ryeowook by the collar and easily dragging him off of Donghae. That seemed to make Ryeowook snap out of his shock and he snarled at the other, but surprisingly the new one didn’t seem intimidated at all. Instead, he merely held the smaller vampire at arm’s length, his eyes focused on him intently as he spoke.
“Donghae, order him to not attack any of us.” were his next words and Youngwoon frowned, wondering how it was possible that this newcomer seemed to know everyone’s name whereas he still had trouble to remember just Dongb- Donghae’s. Said person meanwhile did as he was told, quickly ordering the struggling Ryeowook to stay still, not attack anyone and stay silent unless he was asked something. The small vampire seemed to go limp in the newcomers grip at that and was easily released, slipping onto the ground.
Another vampire then walked into the room, closing the door behind him. The next moment he had his arms around Donghae, almost toppling the other over with the force and enthusiasm of the…hug - Youngwoon realised with some surprise. The second newbie was hugging Donghae, and judging from his expression, Donghae didn’t have a single clue why either.
“Hyung!” the second newbie exclaimed, and the next moment Youngwoon found the arms being wrapped around him, actually throwing him on his back as he hadn’t expected the hug. The next moment his defences kicked in, however, and with a snarl he threw the lanky vampire off him, sending him flying through the room. The stranger stabilised himself mid-air, easily landing on his feet and using one hand to keep himself upright. The smirk on his face was both arrogant and strangely endearing. It was then that the first newcomer spoke up again.
“Kyuhyun, you’re scaring them. If you’re really going to be clingy – which would be a first, by the way – then go cling onto Ryeowook, he can’t protest against it.” were his calm words, before he turned back to look at Donghae and Youngwoon. “I’m sorry for the rude interruption.” he said, but Youngwoon was too distracted by his vivid red eyes to respond. “You probably don’t know me anymore, but I know you and I’m here to help.”
“How?” Donghae asked sceptically, being the first to speak. “Help us with what?” The newcomer sent him a short smile, as if knowing that question was going to be asked.
“Help you with your memory, for one. Perhaps also with whatever reason Ryeowook had for trying to kill you.” he then retorted. When his memory was mentioned, Youngwoon immediately got up, moving to Donghae’s side and putting a hand protectively on the other’s shoulder.
“How?” he repeated the earlier asked question. “And who the hell are you anyway?”
“My name is Jongwoon.” came the reply without hesitation. “That’s Kyuhyun. You met Ryeowook too. We all used to be friends, but you don’t remember that I guess, and apparently Ryeowook doesn’t either or he wouldn’t have attacked you.” Jongwoon sent them a short smile, to which Youngwoon merely frowned but Donghae smiled back widely.
“I have to say you became a lot more vicious than before, Wookie..” the other newcomer – Kyuhyun? – suddenly spoke up, nudging the tip of his foot against Ryeowook’s side. The small vampire could only glare at him from the corner of his eyes, unable to go against the orders and move. “If you’d reacted something more like this whenever you found dirty clothes being left around, we’d have been much less sleazy, I’m sure.” He grinned at what appeared to be a joke and even Jongwoon showed a tight smile, but Youngwoon didn’t get the humour at all.

“So how have you been holding up here in this cosy little apartment of yours?” the vampire in front of Kibum’s door continued, casually taking a step forward and glancing around the room interestedly as if he had any reason to do so. Another guy was standing in the hallway outside, scowling. “I was in town, so I decided to visit. How are you hanging in there these days?” the vampire then asked, making Kibum focus his attention on him again.
“Been fine, hyung. Just the same old same.” he replied tensely, gripping the strap of his backpack a little tighter. There was an amused smirk on the elder’s face, something dangerous flickering in his eyes.
“Running away, are we?” he asked, making Kibum frown and shake his head. “Or should I say; trying to run towards something? Bad idea, Bummie.” He repressed the urge to scowl, the nickname the other had given him ever since the start certainly not one of his favourites. “Got something to drink?” Heechul grabbed hold of his wrist and dragged him back inside, whereas the other vampire closed the door behind them, locking it up as if that would stop any of them from getting out. “Treat me to a glass.” Heechul then continued. “This dork here is not letting me feed and I’m starving”
If anything it was shocking that Heechul was letting someone tell him what to do and what not to do, but when the red-haired vampire shot a glare in his direction and Heechul immediately turned to apologise, Kibum was totally staring. There came a smirk from the redhead and a glare from Heechul, after which the usually snarky vampire sighed and rolled his eyes.
“You’re so lame, Zhou Mi.” Heechul then sighed, making the one he had called by that name snort. Kibum was still just blankly staring at them when Heechul turned back to him. “Hey, I don’t have all day!” he complained. “Or do you want me to feed from you, because I’d be more than willing.” Another glare from the redhead, but this time Heechul didn’t apologise, instead he waved a hand at the other absentmindedly. “Yeah, yeah, I know.”
It was obvious the two of them had some kind of mindreading stuff going on, but even in the vampire world, Kibum had never heard of that before. He decided not to try and figure the whole thing out, but instead slung his backpack over one shoulder so he could reach the zipper and easily got out a blood pack, throwing it at Heechul. The smile returned to said person’s face immediately upon seeing the blood, his fangs ripping the plastic so he could drink. Zhou Mi just looked at it, seemingly unaffected.
Kibum was so absorbed by the surprising control this Zhou Mi vampire seemed to have over the uncontrollable Heechul, trying to find some sort of power source by staring at the stranger, that he didn’t notice what Heechul was doing until two hands took hold of his shoulders and a voice spoke right next to his ear: “We all have such obvious places.” There was a sigh, the other’s breath tickling against his skin, and then a chuckle. “Guess that makes it all the easier for me.” Moments later he felt the sting of fangs sinking into his skin and a sudden emptiness inside of him that quickly filled up again with happiness.
“Feels better right?” Heechul then continued, voice a little further away than it had been before. “That pull is only distracting. I suggest you go on with what you were doing before you decided to take off to wherever you wanted to get. You can have your freedom back, I don’t want to be anyone’s sire. Just remember this, I might need your help in the future. Was nice seeing you again, Bummie.” There was a hand ruffling his hair up and the next moment the door closed behind the redhead, both vampires having left his apartment.
He stared at the door for a long time, wondering what the hell had just happened, only to realise minutes later that the weird pull inside of him had disappeared and he felt no more need to get out of his house to chase after it. There was a moment of complete stillness in which time seemed to have come to a stop, but then he smiled and absentmindedly mumbled a name he didn’t even know himself.

“So that leaves us with only three, huh?” a female voice spoke into the darkness, running fingers through soft hair. “I guess they’re starting to realise what is going on with them. Annoying little brats they are. Don’t you agree, my dear?” There was a soft noise coming from a shape curled up on the couch next to the woman, and an almost inaudible sigh following up the sound. For a moment, everything was silent, but then a chuckle rose from the woman’s lips. “Even as vampires giving people so much trouble and worry, tsk.”
The couch they were resting on was the only piece of furniture in the completely dark room, the sound of their own breathing the only thing breaking the silence, except for the occasional rustle of the woman’s fingers running through his hair.
“I’m getting a little bored of sitting here like this. Aren’t you, my dear?” the woman continued then and the curled up shape next to her slowly started to unfold, revealing legs and arms that stuck to the body. When the person was sitting up more normally, the woman turned to look at him, her fingers still soothingly running through the soft hair.
“Are we going to move?” the former shape then asked, his voice rough, as if unused for a while, his joints popping as he stretched out. The woman seemed to think over the question, biting her lower lip and sighing then.
“I guess it can’t be helped. But let’s sit here for a little longer first before we jump into action. I’m not used to seeing you sitting up straight anymore. I forgot how handsome you can be with the right lighting.” The woman chuckled at her own joke, and the man faintly smiled as well, the windowless room still as dark as ever. They slipped into silence again, the smile lingering on both their faces.
After a long time of silence and darkness, the woman stretched her limbs as well, easily slipping down until she could rest her head on the man’s lap. “I’ll make you a bet.” she then broke the silence again. It was obvious she was the one always leading the conversations, while the man was the one always answering. “I think the next one will be taken from us before you curl up again, how about that?” She reached out her hand to the man who faintly smiled again and then took her hand to accept the bet, obviously indulging her.
“This is why I like you so much.” the woman all but purred, letting go of the man’s hand to reach up and crawl his chin softly. The man leaned into the touch wordlessly, his eyes flashing to her face before he yawned, thereby revealing his obvious fangs. The woman laughed at that and pulled the man’s head down so she could press her lips to his in a hard and emotionless kiss, teeth clashing and fangs nipping at overly sensitive skin. When she let go, the man sat up again. For the first time a more genuine smile seemed to spread over his face, causing his cheek to dimple.

Hyukjae opened his eyes slowly, immediately rolling out of his bed when he realised there was someone in his room, standing next to his bed. Someone whose smell he didn’t know. Someone who was holding a needle. He showed his teeth in a threatening snarl, a low sound coming from deep down his throat. The chuckle that answered it was as much amused as it was familiar. He remained in his crouched position, but now focused on the person standing opposite of him. It took him a while to realise who it was.
“Sang Mi?” he then asked, disbelief in his voice. The chuckle sounded up again and the nurse he knew so well made her way around the bed and over to him. She reached out a hand to help him up and he took it, immediately pulling her into a hug once he was on his feet. She let out another chuckle, but didn’t object, wrapping her arms around him as well. He breathed in her scent, which was so totally not her that he almost pulled away again. “What happened to you? What’s wrong with your scent?”
“It’s not mine.” she said, her voice slightly muffled since her face was pressed against his shoulder. “I had to go to get a new patient, but I was a little careless and got bitten. Siwon-ssi was only barely in time to rescue me. I lost a lot of blood so they had to put me on a blood infuse. I only just got out, so I should get back to smelling like me soon.” She was still clinging to him, he realised, and he suddenly remembered the needle she had been holding.
He didn’t get a chance to pull away, however, as the door to his room opened moments later and a stream of vampires and nurses alike started filling up his room. He stared at them in shock, while Sang Mi quickly moved to hide behind him. He noticed she still had the needle clutched tightly in her hand, seemingly not wanting to let go of it. At the other side of the bed, the group of people came to a halt, a tall vampire standing at the front.
“Sang Mi..” he said, his voice calm, but it was obvious he was angry. “What do you think you’ll achieve by doing this? Just give it back slowly.” Even though Hyukjae felt Sang Mi trembling behind him, she was still courageous enough to reply to that.
“I’m not letting you do that to him, Siwon. Never. Have you forgotten what this facility is for? We’re not in this world to kill every vampire we can find. We’re here to help them, to make them able to live without killing humans. THAT is our goal, not this twisted up image you have of a prison.” Siwon took a step around the bed, but Hyukjae was in front of him in an instant, pushing him back and then dashing back to his place with Sang Mi again.
“Stay out of this, Nightwelp.” Siwon bit at him. “You haven’t had blood for a long time so don’t think you’ll be of any use.” He snarled, stepping around the bed once more. Again Hyukjae shot up to him, but he knew Siwon was prepared for a push, so he took hold of the taller guy’s wrist instead and pulled him forward, punching him straight in the face. Siwon flew backwards, into the group of nurses standing there. They tried to catch him, but were mostly thrown back as well. Mere seconds later the Daywalker was up on his feet again, however, rushing forward.
Hyukjae waited for the collision, waited for this tall Daywalker to start a fight with him, a fight he knew he wouldn’t win but had to get into in order to keep Sang Mi safe. Yet nothing like that happened. Right when Siwon took hold of his collar, the tall vampire seemed to freeze in his movements, eyes slipping closed and then he toppled over into Hyukjae’s arms.
Hyukjae caught the other, surprised with the sudden move, and sent a worried look at Sang Mi, having no clue what was going on. She didn’t look any more knowing, however, and judging from the surprised sounds coming from the nurses and lower level vampires, they didn’t either.
