[FIC] Memories

Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 12/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

“I’m sorry what?” Donghae finally managed to say, watching the Kyuhyun person pat Ryeowook’s hair and pull at his clothes teasingly, obviously finding joy in the annoyed looks said person was giving him. There was nothing but Donghae’s orders keeping the small vampire from leaping up and killing Kyuhyun right there and then, but lucky for the younger, those orders were more than binding enough.

“Long story short we used to know each other when we were still human. People stole your memory as you were turned into a vampire and now we’re all spread over the country. I’m looking around for everyone while trying to make sense of why the hell we’re all in this together.” Jongwoon calmly informed them. Donghae and Youngwoon probably looked like idiots staring at the newcomers as if they had just been told Santa clause is real. They smiled politely, looked at each other for a moment and then set for the door. Kyuhyun reached it before they could blink, however, dangerous smile on his face.

“Leaving already? But we were having so much fun. I wasn’t done hugging yet.” he said, slowly clenching a fist, obviously signing that he wouldn’t let them go. “Besides, look at poor Ryeowook there.. If you leave, he’ll be doomed to sit there until eternity. We are sad to have to do it this way, but we can’t allow you to go. There’s too much depending on you.” He didn’t look very sad in Donghae’s opinion, but if that was what he wanted to call it..

“You want us to believe you just like that?” Youngwoon sneered, but Jongwoon stayed calm when he responded.

“I could show you, but you’d have to bite me.” he stated, coming up behind them. “I don’t want to force you, but I have no other proof. Unless you feel like sitting behind a computer reading old articles about the idol group we all were once part of.” Once again Youngwoon and Donghae exchanged glances, the latter trying to imagine his friend as a singer and trying hard not to laugh at that image. The situation was just that tad bit too serious for laughter. He sighed then, turning around to face Jongwoon.

“Fine. I’ll bite you. Ryeowook, you protect me, if they try to do anything bad to me, push them down.” His eyes flashed to the small vampire for a moment, making sure the order had gotten through. The next moment Kyuhyun was pinned against the floor, Ryeowook staring at him with a victorious grin on his face. “Well.. That’s good too.” Donghae mumbled. “Keep him there, don’t let him get away, but don’t hurt him. Hyung, please keep an eye on this one as I try to get some of this madness.”

He didn’t have to say that twice. Youngwoon was already eyeing Jongwoon with sufficient distrust and suspicion as it was, but he immediately put a strong hand on the other’s shoulder, making sure he’d stay in place. To Donghae’s surprise, all Jongwoon did was give Youngwoon an understanding smile and then he reached out his arm to Donghae as if the tense atmosphere around them was not affecting him at all. Donghae hesitated only a moment longer before taking hold of the other’s arm, bringing it to his mouth.

Lengthening his fangs was a habit whenever he wanted to feed, but now it felt like he had to put an effort into getting them out completely. When he finally pierced Jongwoon’s skin with them, he almost recoiled from the bad taste, but then the images started coming and he stilled, eyes sliding closed.

Something tugged inside of him and Kibum suddenly felt weak, walking over to his couch to take a seat. Realisation was slowly starting to seep in. Heechul had obviously taken siredom over him from his previous sire, who had been calling out to him, but then the elder had given him his freedom, completely disregarding his rights as a sire. In short; Heechul had helped him. But why would the snarky vampire do that? Was it under the orders of the redhead?

He stared at his hands, watching them tremble slightly. He realised there was something he was forgetting, something important, but it was not coming back to him. No matter how much he tried to tell himself to remember, to have it all come back to him, it didn’t. The past seemed to be one big black void in his mind. At the same time he felt a little faint all of a sudden, a feeling he had never felt before. Something strange played at the back of his head, something telling him stuff was up. And when stuff was up, that usually meant something bad.

He sighed, closing his eyes for a bit. There were voices whispering at the back of his head. He needed desperately to shut them up, but sadly his head did not fancy listening to him.

“Wait until I get you again, you won’t be as lucky.” – “Pray for the lord to forgive your sins.” – “What are you doing, you fool, run!” – “Get the hell out of here!” – “It’s too late, Kibum-ssi..”

It was strange to hear such familiar voices, yet find no one around as he looked up. It was even stranger to try and identify the voice, yet find no memory of the face that should normally go along with it. In the end, he went for the easy way out from his questions; going out to a club and drinking himself so wasted he couldn’t even remember his own name. At least that was the plan, but once again he proved himself that vampires can’t get drunk.

So he went to sleep with an alcohol level that outshone anything he’d ever tried before, only to wake up two hours later with a lust for blood that exceeded any limits. He emptied almost every package of blood in the backpack, before he finally sated the killer thirst. For a moment he stared at the plastic around him, his breathing ragging through his body, but then he took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

“I need to get out of here.” he whispered to himself. “I’ve got my holidays anyway so I should just leave.” He was up on his feet in no time, picking up the packages and throwing them away. Not two minutes later, he threw the backpack over his shoulder again and disappeared out of his flat, this time not being held back by a pair of crazy vampires.

“You must be kidding me.” Zhou Mi sighed as he brushed the few drops of blood from his wrist, frowning at Heechul who was giving him a triumphant grin, bloody teeth included.

“Nope, completely serious. Now stop ordering me around.” he replied, winking at the redhead and popping out his phone. A phone number and a few dial tones later, someone on the other side picked up and he spoke again. “Hey love. We’re all set. Time to get that ball rolling.” His grin was almost wicked, and Zhou Mi felt something close to fear for the first time since he had met the eccentric vampire.

☆.:**´¨`**:.☆

He had been rolling around in his bed for a few hours already when he finally couldn’t take it anymore and called the number he meanwhile knew by heart. It didn’t even take two dials for the other side to pick up.

“Donghee-ssi, how nice of you to call.” the male voice spoke up, making him frown slightly because he knew he had lost the battle of wills.

“I’m listening.” he said, slightly ruder than he should have been. “What do you want?” There came a smile, he could pretty much hear it; one of those annoying smiles that meant hell. He rolled his eyes at the wall and was particularly glad when the woman took over the phone.

“Shindong-ssi..” she started, and he noticed the name that wasn’t really his but that he had become familiar with over the years. “All those annoying girls were right. You are part of that band they think you’re a part of. Way before you became a vampire, way before you were turned, you were part of it. You had a band, you loved to rap and dance, you had a girlfriend even and a way with words and jokes that made the whole nation laugh. We know this because Hangeng was part of that band too. He remembers you.” She seemed to have said everything, but he waited a moment longer just to make sure.

“I know.” he said then, sighing and turning so he could stare at his ceiling. There was silence on the other side, making it easy to imagine her with a surprised look on her face and perhaps on that cocky Hangeng’s face too. That’d make his day for sure.

“What do you mean you know?” she finally asked and he smiled a little wider, just because he could.

“I looked up some of those articles again, I recognised him from the pictures. Now one look-a-like, that could’ve been a coincidence, but two? And then there’s that Kim Kibum kid running around still. I did some guessing.” he clarified, sighing lightly. “Besides, all those girls seemed pretty convinced they were telling the truth, just like you two. So what do you want from me?”

There was another silence, the two obviously talking something through on the other side, but then Li Yin spoke up again. “We don’t really want anything FROM you.” she said, her voice seeming a lot friendlier than when they started the conversation. “You see, Shindong-ssi, I’m sure you read the articles about all of the band members dying mysterious deaths? We have reason to believe all of them are still alive somewhere, living as vampires. We’re trying to bring everyone together and thereby also find the person who did this to you.” She sighed before continuing. “We wanted to ask you to join us on our search for the others.”

“What’s going on?” Hyukjae asked, sighing as he tried to keep the tall vampire from falling. No one answered him, all eyes on Siwon. The nurses weren’t brave enough to come closer and the vampires seemed to think he had some kind of control over them, having made the leader pass out. The only one who still dared coming close enough was Sang Mi, but she was keeping a distance from Siwon, just to be sure. So he stayed close to the vampire, and thereby was the first to notice when the other woke up again.

“Where am I?” Siwon asked softly, and Hyukjae sighed, lifting the other back up on his feet.

“You’re at the Institution. Your name is Siwon..” he started, but when the other’s eyes fell on him, a wide grin appeared on Siwon’s face and the tall vampire wrapped him in a tight hug. If that was unexpected already, the relieved ‘Hyuk!’ was even more. For a moment Siwon stared at him, before he started talking more.

“But.. This is impossible. You are dead and I..” He fell silent, his expression stilled and he shivered. “Am I dead?” There was a rather scared look in his eyes, so Hyukjae quickly shook his head.

“Well… Technically you are, I guess, but you’re still in the world of the living.” he explained then, leading the vampire to his bed so he could have him sit down. He turned to look at the others then. “Could you leave my room, please, you’re crowding it.” he said, and for some surprising reason they listened. He watched them all go. Once the last one closed the door behind him, he turned to look at Siwon again, who was still staring at him with wide eyes.

“Am I a ghost?” he then asked, making Hyukjae smile lightly.

“Open your mouth and think of blood, your fangs will come then. You’re a vampire.” he simply stated, finally letting go of the other and taking a step back. In a matter of seconds, Sang Mi was next to him, clutching at his arm, but he pulled free, shying away from her. “I don’t know what you’re holding there, but put it down first.” he ordered, watching her expression go confused and then shocked. He realised only moments later that it was because he had taken on a defensive stance and was shielding Siwon from her reach.

“Hyukjae, I’m not going to hurt you. You know me.” she said, but when he didn’t move, she reached out her free arm. “Here. Drink. You’ll know what I’m thinking. Please.” But he moved away even more at that, until he felt Siwon’s feet against the back of his legs. Sang Mi’s expression turned disappointed and then even sad, but he didn’t move still. It was only when she put down the syringe on his night table that he relaxed a little. Right then, Siwon’s fingers took hold of his shirt.

“Hyukjae, she looks dangerous.” he said softly, to which said person nodded. “That thing she put down is liquid UV. Enough to kill a vampire.” Hyukjae frowned hearing that, turning to send Siwon a questioning look. “I just remembered.” came the explanation, Siwon obviously confused as well. “I don’t know what that is, but I do at the same time. She was supposed to inject that in the vampire who attacked her, but she didn’t. You should be careful. I think she might want to give it to you, but you’re not ready yet.”

“What do you mean he’s not ready yet? I’ve been taking him out on walks in the sun for the past weeks.” Sang Mi protested, making Hyukjae look at her shortly again. Siwon frowned at that, seemingly trying to remember.

“The vampire who attacked you as a daywalker. The amount of UV inside that syringe is enough to kill any daywelp without proper training. Hyuk wouldn’t even be able to take even a tenth of that amount.” he then explained again, which made Sang Mi tense up. The next moment, before even Hyukjae could stop her, she had taken the syringe again and shot forward, planting the thing in Siwon’s leg.

“Let’s see how much you can take then, huh?” she hissed.
