Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 15/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

When he regained consciousness, there was so much more in his head than there used to be it was almost confusing. But everything just made sense. It wasn’t as if he had just learned new things, but more like he had always known everything and he just had a rather blank period behind him. It was almost scary to think of Donghae and remember so much more than just fleeing from the Daywalker. It was even scarier to think of the Daywalker and see a cute guy making him dinner almost every day.
The scariest part, however, probably was remembering how he died. There was a vague recollection of going on another drill run in the army and losing his footing on a small mountain path. He had fallen, all the way down from the side of the mountain, crashing through bushes and against trees, until at some point, something had stopped him. He remembered feeling so afraid he wanted to cry, and then a soft, soothing feeling that had reassured his worried mind. After that; everything went blank and he had woken up completely healed, but as a vampire.
He groaned, lifting a hand to push away whatever was itching at his face. It was only when his fingers made contact with it, that he realised it was someone’s hand. Opening his eyes, he looked right at Donghae’s face. He immediately jerked back, but that only lead him to bump against whoever was behind him. In a matter of seconds, he was up from the bed and standing on the other end of the room. On the bed lay Ryeowook and Donghae, both seeming to be peacefully sleeping. The other bed was taken by Kyuhyun, who looked more like he was forced to sleep. The first thing he noticed was Jongwoon’s obvious absence on the beds. A quick look around the room, gave him the answer to that however.
“They’re just asleep, don’t worry.” Jongwoon spoke right then, standing at the window and looking over the city at night. Wait… At night? In a matter of seconds, Youngwoon was at the window as well, staring out at the night sky in shock. How long had he been out for it to be night already? “When you didn’t wake up, they started to worry. You know Ryeowook and it didn’t take long for Hae to start panicking too. You two have grown a lot closer over the past months it seems.” There was something that sounded quite like regret in the other’s voice. “Kyuhyun didn’t really panic, but he hasn’t slept in ages, so I put them all down on the beds.” For a moment it was silent, before Jongwoon turned to him, expression serious. “It’s good to see you’re still fine, though. Do you remember now?”
He nodded, because there was nothing else he could do. Jongwoon – Yesung? Which name should he use now? – seemed troubled by more things than just what they were in. He wanted to be of help, but on the other hand felt slightly awkward with the whole situation. Dealing with Jongwoon had never been his forte, and apparently it still wasn’t. “I remember everything, yes.” he therefore said. “How did we all come to this? How did the others become vampires?” There were so many questions haunting him, but as he thought more about them, he often found he already knew the answers. This question, however, remained unanswered by himself, and apparently Jongwoon had no answer either, as he remained silent for a long time.
“I don’t know.” he then admitted, turning back to the window. “You all died one after another. It was only when I found Kyuhyun that I realised maybe you didn’t die, but changed. Turns out I’m more right than I really wanted to be.”

Immediately after his words, Heechul twirled around and Zhou Mi felt his back slamming against the wall he had just partly destroyed. Furious eyes stared into his from a distance and all that was holding him against the wall was Heechul’s personal order. He sighed, closed his eyes and concentrated for a moment. It didn’t take long for the boundaries to fall away and he immediately took a step forward again. Heechul was trembling with anger now, but Zhou Mi had used his own measures against him; locking the other in place instead.
“You were ordered to kill me, yes, but you didn’t. Which wasn’t supposed to happen anyway. The facility needed me despite my beliefs, so they had you silence me and they put me in one of their rooms like I was another one of their patients.” He smiled ruefully. “Well, that didn’t go quite the way they wanted it to, don’t you think?” Zhou Mi looked from one to the other, trying to figure out if he was supposed to be careful or anything like that or if they weren’t going to kill him. Judging from how long Heechul had been keeping him alive so far even when being on their side, he hoped he would be allowed to live even longer, but who knew?
“Kid lost his tongue?” Speaking of the devil, Heechul seemed to have found his way around the orders again. “Pretty impressive what you did just now. You’re going to be quite the add to our little happy group, seasoning.” The name made him freeze in the middle of his attempt to escape the alley, his eyes shooting to his twin-sire and looking him over carefully. Repeating the word in his head seemed to wake something in him, something old and forgotten, but still valuable. For a moment there, he wanted to smile and make a snarky comment, but then the moment passed and he pulled up his defences again. “Don’t worry, we’re not going to harm you. In fact; we need you on our side.” That sparked up his interest.
“What for? Are you planning on taking over the facility? Are you revolting against the ones who helped you?” he replied, tone slightly biting. Hangeng merely smiled at that, whereas the woman took hold of Heechul’s wrist and pulled him a little further away as if to prevent possible anger outbursts. The fourth person, still a stranger to Zhou Mi even though his face was more visible now, stayed out of it the whole time. For a moment there, he realised he could just escape, but then he remembered how Heechul still was his sire and could command him back any moment. Unless he was faster.
“We have no such intentions.” Hangeng said right at the moment he was silently ordering Heechul to leave him alone. The words were so unexpected that his mouth dropped open. “Don’t give me such a surprised look, Mimi, we’re not as bad as you probably think we are right now. We don’t want to revolt against the one who helped us, but there’s things going on in the facility that you don’t know about.” For a moment Hangeng paused and Zhou Mi wanted to ask what exactly those things were or why they had all escaped if they weren’t doing anything wrong, but then Hangeng said something so unexpected his whole mind went blank.
“Misun is no longer the leader at the facility.”

He didn’t know how long he had spent in the dark surroundings, his back pressed against the other, but he was sure he’d been unconscious for the most part of it. When he stirred, trying to get the tickling hair out of his face, the other let out a sigh, as if relieved. He felt the breath ghosting over the skin of his neck and had to lock his muscles in place in order to not scoot away from the other. He reminded himself that the sun could still be up and he couldn’t risk being exposed to it. For a moment they were completely still again, but then the other moved, lifting a small corner of whatever was covering them to peek out from underneath it.
It was obvious several hours had passed already. The sun was shining, but a few clouds currently blocked it from them. They both worked on instinct, getting up on their feet and running in the direction of the closest cover in sight; a seemingly deserted house further down the road. They were lucky to reach it right before the cloud passed and sunlight streamed over the ground again. Both were covered by the front porch’s roof. One look inside assured them that there really wasn’t anyone living inside anymore, which was their cue to get inside and find the least sunny room in the house. Once they were both there, being careful to remain in the sunless parts, Sungmin looked up at his saviour for the first time, only to widen his eyes in recognition once his eyes found the man’s face.
“You…” he uttered, blinking several times to get over his surprise. The other seemed unaffected by his reaction, sending a small smile his way and shrugging lightly. “Me.” he answered simply, making Sungmin blush because of his own silly reaction to seeing the other. “Are you alright?” the kind-of stranger then continued. “For a while there I thought you had died on me. You seemed to have run for a long time.” He nodded in response, before realising how stupid that must look and letting out an affirmative noise. “What had you running like that?”
“I was…” he started, before frowning. “How much time has passed? I need to go back. I need to help Henry somehow!” He whirled around, looking for a way out of the house, before realising there was no way he could do anything as long as the sun was still up.
“Henry? That name sounds familiar.” For a moment the other thought about it, before his eyes lit up with recognition. “Henry Lau? The Chinese kid? He’s one of us too? Is there anyone who isn’t?” Sungmin swallowed, shrugging. He had no idea who the ‘us’ were the other was talking about and he didn’t really want to know. All he knew was that he needed to find help and get Henry the hell out of that woman’s claws. He sighed and started pacing forth and back. “Okay so what’s up with Henry? Is he in some kind of trouble?”
“Yes. He is.” Sungmin immediately agreed, he wanted to start an explanation, but as he looked up at the other, fell silent again. “I never thought you’d be a vampire.” he then said, feeling rather awkward with the way things seemed to turn out. “How did you manage? I mean… The sun and all… You were up and about a lot during the day, right?” The other smiled slightly and nodded.
“It’s amazing what a few well chosen clothes could do.” he replied then. “No need to be so formal, by the way. We’re old friends after all.” There was a kind of dark amusement in those words, as if the other knew so much more than Sungmin did. “So tell me what’s up with the Chinese kid. Knowing he’s in trouble makes me feel inclined to help him, so I guess we should do that then, right?”

Siwon entered the room right behind Hyukjae. Whereas his friend passed straight by the Daywalker to get to Sang Mi, he immediately stepped up to the man. A select few touches later there was nothing left of the other but a small heap of dust on the floor. He had done it out of an instinct, knowing that was how to take down a Daywalker, but the moment he realised what he had done, guilt and loathe made him sink down on his knees and start praying for forgiveness. It didn’t take long for him to remember all the sins he committed over the past years and if it wasn’t for part of him justifying those actions, he might have been begging out loud.
Not five metres away from him, Sang Mi was clutching Hyukjae’s T-shirt so desperately that she was starting to tear it a little, not used to her new powers yet. The owner of the shirt apparently didn’t mind at all, as he was holding her back just as tightly, one hand repeatedly running over her back to calm her down while whispering words of comfort. She felt tears stream over her cheeks, trying to hold them back, but being unable to. She was a vampire now. But she was sure she wasn’t, as there was no bloodlust. But then she got burnt by the sun, didn’t she?
“Sang Mi…” Hyukjae’s voice slowly broke through the haze in her mind. “Sang Mi, you have a heartbeat.” It took a while for her to comprehend those words and when she did, she couldn’t believe them. “You have a heartbeat and you’re starting to smell like yourself again. I don’t know what happened back there but you’re not a vampire.” He kept on assuring her. She held back the next sob, trying to gain control over herself again.
“But Hyukjae… The sun… And I…” she stammered, pressing her face against his shoulder even more, wanting to escape the feelings haunting her. But the next moment something pulled her back and she was slammed against the wall with a loud crack. The next moment she saw Hyukjae flying backwards as well, crashing against the wall opposite of her, and then an incredibly loud and heavy thunderbolt made the whole building tremble. The next moment rain started to fall down so heavily that it felt as if they would be pierced by raindrops soon. It didn’t take long for her to figure out what was going on, but she was unable to do anything as she remained pressed against the wall.
Suddenly everything went silent. Too silent. She knew that if no one came to stop him, worse things than just some rain and lightning would ensue. There was nothing she could do, nothing she could say to stop what was coming. For a moment she feared for her life, feared for everyone’s life in a five mile radius around them, but then an unexpected voice sounded up. “Siwon-ah, calm down. You’re not going to make anything better by destroying the whole facility. I know what you’re feeling right now, but you shouldn’t. It wasn’t your fault.”
A warm hand was put on Siwon’s shoulder and then a woman crouched down in front of him, cupping his face in her hands and wiping his tears away. She smiled at him then. “Remember me?” she asked softly. “Because you should. Like how you remember Hyukjae. You don’t want to kill Hyukjae, do you? He’s your friend.” The warm smile and the understanding in her eyes seemed to break something in Siwon, because the next moment he sank forward against the woman, crying out his deep-rooted sorrow.
