A/N: The first story I wrote with Super Junior in it lol. I was a bit of a fan at that time and Hyukjae was the first member of Super Junior I knew. I gradually learned more about them as I wrote this story so if some things don't add up at all, don't blame me lol.

He just stood there, looking at her, letting the words get through to his mind. She softly pulled him with her to the hotel bed, sitting him down on the edge. When she sat down next to him again, he was still staring at her with a blank expression. She grabbed a pack of tissues out of her bag and started drying her tears. After doing that, she caringly cleaned his face a bit as well. Tears were still streaming down his cheeks, making her realize how deep his doubts had been and how sure he had been of a break-up. It made her heart hurt to see him in such despair.

She gently stroked his face, letting her hand slide from his cheek to his shoulder. With a soft smile, she gave him a little squeeze. That one move seemed to release a lot of things in him. He suddenly threw himself at her, putting his arms around her middle and hiding his face against her shoulder. He clung onto her as if his life depended on it, but she didn’t care. She comfortingly patted his back and then started stroking it, trying to calm down his now shaking body. Once again she felt more like his mother than like his younger girlfriend, but the feeling of being able to rely on him didn’t disappear like it normally did. Without really thinking about it, she started humming an ancient lullaby in hopes of calming him down. As the song progressed, the shaking of his body lessened and in the end he lay completely still. Yet she did not stop stroking his back, nor did she think to ask him anything. She was just being there for him.

“You never told me you could sing.” was the first thing he mumbled, almost not understandable because of his frail voice after crying. She couldn’t help laughing softly.

“That’s because I can’t. Lullabies are okay, but make me sing anything else and you’ll run for your life. You should hear Nat, though, she can sing so good. It’s always wonderful to be able to listen to her voice. She even wrote one song back in the day for which the bunch of us made a whole dance routine and music video. I believe it’s still on Youtube somewhere.”

“What’s the name of the song?”

“Wrong Turn. It was an English song. I helped her translate some words and took care of the grammar of the lines. I think in the first months she got a lot of views and positive comments, but she has never felt the urge to make another song, so she just covered songs. One of them being your It’s you, by the way. She said she liked the lyrics. She’s just sad that Kibum was so absent during those days. People kept subscribing to her and stuff. She’s a bit of a Youtube celebrity.”

“So why did she never audition for anything?”

“She’s not interested in a singing career. Together with Kasumi she owns a dance studio where she teaches ballet and she’s going to major in acting.”

“Wow, seems like she’s got a lot of talents.”

“Yah, she’s quite the girl..” Selene kept silent for a moment, before looking at Hyuk-jae. “Are you okay now?” she then asked, showing her concern. He smiled a little and nodded.

“I’m sorry.” he mumbled, obviously a little embarrassed. She handed him a tissue as she shrugged.

“There is nothing to apologize for. Maybe I should even be the one apologizing. Don’t scare me like that again. Next time when you worry about something, just tell me. I will always be honest to you.” As he nodded, he gently pulled her towards him. She willingly went to sit on his lap and let herself lean against his body, closing her eyes as she did so. When he put his arms around her, she suddenly felt safe. His arms were like a wall around her that no one would be able to pass through if she didn’t like it. Inside she felt safe and above all, complete. She never felt like this when Jo Kwon hugged her. All in all, she didn’t even really like being hugged by him. He was an older brother to her and nothing more than that. It was like hugging cousins, she didn’t like that either. It felt more like a duty than like something one would do because of liking someone else. Thinking about Jo Kwon made her realize how many time she had actually spent with him and how she had neglected Hyukjae. She felt guilty. More guilty than she had ever felt. How could she have simply forgotten all about Hyukjae? That thought made her lift her head and open her eyes to look at him. He had been looking at her already, so their eyes met. She lifted a hand to softly touch his cheek with her fingers.

“Bishounen..” she said softly. “Mianhe. Saranghae.”

He gently let his fingers run through her hair, smiling at her a little, even though there still seemed to be some hurt in him. She smiled back, unable not to feel happy to be with him. Slowly she started wondering how she managed not to have missed his touch, his care, his smell,.. Her body seemed to always immediately relax when she was with him. Even the other guys had commented on it, saying it was because she was drugged by his strong smell. Or maybe even poisoned. She had laughed about it and had thrown a pillow at Heechul, but thinking about it made her realize that she did seem to be the only person who didn’t think Hyukjae smelled strong or bad. In fact, she thought he smelled nice. He smelled like Hyukjae and there was no one else in the whole wide world who smelled like him.

“It’s okay, it’s not your fault.” he suddenly whispered, tearing through her thoughts with his words. She looked up at him, only to get a kiss. Her lips tingled where his had touched them, making her smile a little. “There are things going on that none of us can control.” he added mumbling. His words surprised her a little. What was he talking about now?

“Like what?” she asked, following his gaze. He was staring at the wall, showing no sign of reaction for a while. Selene knew well enough not to push him into responding when he didn’t feel like it.

“Things like faith and soul mates.” he suddenly said, turning his head to look at her. She smiled.
“You are my soul mate.”

She wanted to rest her head against his shoulder again, but his posture stopped her from doing so. He seemed to have frozen in place because of her words, with a hurtful expression on his face.

“I wish I was.” he whispered, so soft that she had a hard time understanding him, yet she managed.

“What do you mean?”

“He means that your soul mate is someone else.” a voice behind her suddenly said. She jumped up in surprise, almost falling on the ground while doing so, but luckily Hyukjae caught her in time. When she looked at the new person, she frowned.

“How did you get in? I’m sure I locked the door.” she said, raising an eyebrow to show her suspicion. It was Hyukjae who answered in the girl’s place.

“Meet K’Ae, the ghost.” It took a while for the words to get through to her, but when they did, she realized he must really have gone crazy.

“Yah. Sure. And my father is an alien.” she replied. For some reason Hyukjae thought her words very amusing as he burst out laughing. She gave him a strange look, to which he responded with a muffled: “That was exactly my reaction when she told me.” Frowning even more, she turned back to K’Ae. “A ghost?” she asked, making sure that there was enough disbelief in her voice. Instead of answering, K’Ae simply walked through the chair in front of her, before disregarding all laws of gravity and floating through the air to land on the bed. With the still working part of her brain, Selene noticed that K’Ae’s standing on the bed, didn’t even cause a dent to appear in the mattress.

“I have died two years ago. I returned because my soul was incomplete. Now I have to spend the rest of this life with the owner of the other part of my soul. You, Selene, are only half of a soul as well. Sadly enough, your other half is not Eunhyuk.” K’Ae calmly explained. Selene didn’t even have to think about it, her mouth answered without her wanting to.

“But Jo Kwon is.”

“Exactly.”

Selene smiled, which soon turned into laughter. The self-assured smile of K’Ae disappeared upon hearing the mocking sound and even Hyukjae seemed to be startled by her reaction. She also noticed a hint of hurt in his face. After calming herself down, she put an arm around his middle and looked up at K’Ae over his shoulder.

“Nonsense.” she said, making it clear that she did not want any objection against that word. “I love Hyukkie. End of story.”

“That has nothing to do with it.” K’Ae objected, but Selene shook her head.

“That has everything to do with it.” she replied, tightening her grip on Hyukjae’s shoulders a little in her upcoming anger. Who did this girl think she was? She might be older, but that did not give her the right to spout such nonsense. The response came from an unexpected corner, however.

“Lene, calm down.” the soft voice next to her ear startled her. She turned to look at Hyukjae, preparing to demand his reasons for siding with K’Ae, but his smile made the words she had wanted to say disappear from her mind. “She is not trying to tear us apart or anything like that. What she says is true. I believe her. Even if you don’t, just hear her out before calling it all lies and nonsense. If not for your own curiosity, then do it for me.” Ah, really. Did he have to use such puppy eyes while saying those things? And was that sweet ‘Baby, I love you’-tone of his voice really necessary? Even though she had wanted to say a lot more angry things to K’Ae, all her reasons for being angry had left her mind and all she could think about was how incredibly cute Hyukjae was when he talked to her like that and looked at her like that. In the end, she sighed and unwillingly turned to look at K’Ae again, keeping her mouth tightly shut.

And so K’Ae started her explanation once again. About babies getting souls and some souls being divided over two. About the experiences she herself had had with it and her life as a ghost. She talked about how being connected to someone, like they were, influenced your life, but also mentioned that you did not have to live by the rules of a bound soul.

Selene listened, even though she tried to look as uninterested as possible. She had to at least keep some of her dignity. Things she had wondered about were suddenly explained and her continuous meetings with Jo Kwon also became much more understandable. When K’Ae finished, it was silent for a while, yet after a long time of no one speaking up, Selene looked from K’Ae to Hyukjae and back.

“So?” she asked. They eyed her questioningly. “I mean.. What does this change? Okay, some of my thoughts and feelings about Jo Kwon oppa have been explained, but apart from that it changes nothing, does it? It doesn’t matter if I share a soul with Kwon oppa. It wouldn’t even matter if it were a life or even a body. I love my Hyukkie and nothing’s going to change that. No story, no ghost and certainly no long lost soul-twin.” Her words caused Hyukjae to happily squeeze her in a hug, while K’Ae stepped down from the bed again, with a smile on her face. However, she did not say anything, but simply walked to the door and started unlocking it. Right when she did, someone knocked.

“Selene, are you here?” an all too familiar voice said. “Are you alright? I was worried about you and you didn’t pick up your phone, so that got me even more worried..” His words made her take her GSM out of her bag to notice she had over ten missed calls. Oops.

“I’m fine, oppa.” she said, getting up from Hyukjae’s lap as K’Ae opened the door. When Jo Kwon saw the girl, he gave her a surprised look, but immediately greeted her. Everyone seemed to know this girl. Then again, as a ghost, there probably were easy ways to travel all around the world in no time, and one probably also had more than enough free time to do so. After greeting K’Ae, Jo Kwon immediately turned to her, walking closer and grabbing her by the shoulders, inspecting if she was still in one piece.

“Are you alright? I was worried sick. You didn’t pick up your phone.” he repeated. When his hands had touched her, she had still been keeping an eye on Hyukjae, so she had seen him flinch. He looked like he wanted to jump up and get angry, but was trying to hold it back. Without having to even think twice about it, she softly pulled free from Jo Kwon’s grip and took a step back, moving closer towards Hyukjae again.

“Oppa, I’m fine.” she said again. “I told you Hyukjae was coming, so of course I won’t be on the phone with you then. Besides, you know my phone often is on silent mode or that I don’t even hear it. Why did you come all the way over here? Why would there be anything wrong with me?”

“I don’t know.” he said, seeming very surprised himself that he had done so. “I just suddenly felt like you were in grave trouble or something like that, so I wanted to make sure you were alright.”

“It’s just natural.” K’Ae said, giving Selene a look that made her realize the ghost girl was talking about the shared soul stuff. She sighed and shook her head, but didn’t reply. “Anyway. I’ll be going now. I was just on my way out. Kwon-ah, if you’re calmed down now, let’s just leave these two alone, shall we?” K’Ae then continued, giving Jo Kwon a look that made it obvious she wasn’t just asking him, but telling. To Selene’s great surprise the boy only nodded, instead of being all annoying like he used to always be to her. He surprised her even more by turning to Hyukjae first.

“I’m sorry, hyung.” he said, sounding very sincere. “It is very nice to meet you, even though I had hoped to meet under different circumstances. Let’s meet again in the future and have ourselves introduced properly. Have a good day. I’m very sorry.” While saying those things, he bowed a few times as he backed out of the room. K’Ae walked out the door after him, smiling a little, amused smile. She greeted them with a ‘Take care.’ as she pulled the door closed behind her. With another sigh, Selene walked to the door and locked it again. She stood there for a moment with her eyes closed, trying to clear her head from all the weird things she had seen. Hyukjae surprised her by putting his arms around her in a back-hug. Even though she was startled, her heartbeat slowed down again immediately upon realizing it was him.

“I still can’t believe it..” he spoke softly, letting his head rest against hers.

“Believe what?” she asked.

“Even after all this time and all this crap about divided souls and such, I am still allowed to call you my girlfriend.”

“Allowed? You mean obliged. No way you’re getting rid of me.”

“I want to keep you forever.”

“That’s good, because I doubt anyone else would have me.” Her words made him laugh, a sound that brought a smile on her face as well. “Or maybe I should try Heechul oppa..” she pondered with a teasing edge to it.

Hyukjae made a disgusted sound and poked her playfully in the side, which caused her to let out a surprised shriek. That of course made him burst out in laughter again. Instead of getting annoyed or angry, she simply took a little step back to stand closer to him. He let his chin rest on her shoulder. As she closed her eyes again, she was able to enjoy the little bit of closeness she shared with him. They barely ever had moments when no one was watching, but luckily they both didn’t really care about it. Yet it was of course always nice to realize they were all alone together.

“Let’s make it official.” Hyukjae’s voice suddenly broke through the wannabe-silence in the room.

“What?” she asked, wondering what on earth he was talking about.

“Our relationship. Let’s make it official. Let’s tell the fans.” Her shock over his words was so great that she pulled free from his hug to be able to turn around and look at him, trying to make sure if he was still sane.

“Say what?” she exclaimed. “Are you in your right mind? Do you want fans to kill me? Or worse, to abandon you?” Hyukjae’s expression turned shocked and she felt relieved to have made him see the ridiculousness of his words, but instead of agreeing, he suddenly seemed to become angry.

“What do you mean it would be worse if they abandon me than if they would kill you?” he burst out. He grabbed her shoulders and shook her slightly in fury. “Do you have any idea what it would do to me when you’re dead? Don’t just use those words so lightly. I don’t care if those so-called fans abandon me. When they do, they will simply prove they only support me as long as I do what they want. Even if the company kicks me out, I want to be with you and I want the world to know I am. I don’t want to have to sneakily go out on dates anymore. I want to just walk out and show them it’s me who is in love with you. So don’t say something ridiculous like that ever again.”

His sudden, but fierce anger surprised her, yet it made her realize once again how deep his love for her was and how much he seemed to want to be able to show her to others. His sudden outburst had totally overpowered her own temper-spasm and she could only stare at him, her mouth opened a little because of her surprise. He just kept looking back at her, his expression still a little angry, his gaze unwavering. Finally, she closed her mouth and took a deep breath.

“So you want to make it official..” she said, trying to change the subject. He seemed to accept that change and nodded slowly.
