She sat next to Seungri’s bed for the rest of the time that he was there. Nurses and doctors walked in and out and some of the YG Entertainment people came by too. There were several that just sat down in her, which at first had caused Seungri to stare at them in shock, but as she told him it was normal, he soon got used to it and simply smiled at the people, answering their questions in a very casual manner.

The second time he had woken up, he was much stronger and the fever had disappeared as well. From then on he grew stronger with the hour. The colour came back to his face, he was able to talk without problems and he even joked around a little here and there. It didn’t take long for him to be allowed to go home again. She was there still when he came out of the bathroom, dressed again, and she walked out of the room with him.

As they followed the YG people downstairs towards the car, she quickly told him she would go home a different way. The moment the car disappeared out of sight, she thought of Top. She didn’t even need a second to move, appearing next to him as he was about to have dinner. Of course she scared him by suddenly appearing, so he jumped up, causing the others to give him a strange look.

“Seungri is coming home.” she said, wishing to be visible for all four of the guys so they would hear her too. The three others now followed Top’s example by jumping up and staring at her. Ji Yong recovered quickly and started smiling, but Daesung and Yong Bae kept staring for a while, obviously not believing that they had just seen a girl appear out of nowhere.

“He’s on his way now?” Ji Yong soon broke the silence. She looked at him and smiled upon seeing the big grin on his face. That made him wink at her and she couldn’t help chuckling.

“Yes, he just got in the car and is now on his way.” she informed them. Suddenly a hand smacked her flat on her cheek, making her stagger away from it in shock. As she looked up, she saw Daesung staring at her with his hand in front of his mouth. He immediately came closer and put a hand on her shoulder.

“I’m so sorry!” he said, trying to see if he badly hurt her cheek. “I was trying to see if you were real, because I didn’t expect you to be, but you are. Did I hurt you a lot?”

Upon seeing the distressed look on his face, she couldn’t help herself and she burst out laughing. He kept apologising, but she patted his shoulder, reassuring him it was alright. She couldn’t help giggling, which made him smile too. Daesung had a very bright smile that immediately made her feel good. That’s why she burst out laughing again as he smiled, making him smile even wider. She quickly turned away, reaching out to Top who pulled her to him in a hug.

“Please do not choke in your laugh again.” Ji Yong randomly added to the conversation. She laughed even harder hearing that, which was probably what he had wanted to reach. When she let go of Top, she saw he was smiling as well. They shared a short look, before taking distance again. Her gaze went over the table.

“But I disturbed your dinner. Please do go on. There’s no need to wait for Seungri, because I doubt he’s hungry and I’m going to send him straight to his bed when he arrives.” she said that, smiling at them. Without any shame, she sat down on the chair next to Top, putting her head against his arm. He turned his eyes towards her a moment, before focusing on the food again.

She watched them throughout their whole dinner, focusing mostly on Top and Ji Yong because they didn’t mind. Yong Bae and Daesung seemed to be a little uncomfortable having her around. Yong Bae even more than Daesung. When she saw him looking at her, she smiled, but he immediately looked back at his food, avoiding her gaze.

“So what did the other ghost tell you?” Top casually asked after quite a long silence. Immediately remembering everything she started telling him what Kevin had told her. About the souls, each of them being one half and all the crap that came along with that. She noticed how all four of them were intently listening as she told everything she learned. When she finished, Daesung was the first to speak.

“You can walk through stuff? Please show me!” He was almost bouncing up and down on his chair, so she couldn’t refuse his request. Focusing very hard on the fact that there was nothing in front of her, she stuck out her hand, going right through the table and the stuff on it. The gasps from Dae Sung and Yong Bae showed their surprise. Top, who had seen lots of people sit in her before, was deep in thought about the other things, while Ji Yong was just grinning widely.

“This is so cool.” he said. “Can you go through people too?”

“I’m guessing I only can when they don’t believe in me. As they create a layer of reality around me when they do, that makes it impossible for me to go through them. So if they don’t see me I should be able to.” she replied after thinking about that question a bit. At that moment there were noises outside the door. “Seungri has arrived I believe.”

The words hadn’t fully left her mouth or the door opened and Seungri walked in, followed by some YG people. The four boys immediately got up to gather around their maknae and hug him or pat him on the shoulder. She smiled as she saw their worry for him which they had hidden before. After a good amount of greeting, Seungri managed to look her way and smile. She smiled back.

The YG people started to give the boys some explanation about the last concert the next day, making sure they all knew to get up in time. She didn’t listen, but walked towards Seungri’s room. Soon after he walked in as well. She heard the YG people leave the apartment again, making her feel a little relieved. She followed Seungri with her eyes as he went to grab his pyjamas and then left for the bathroom. Not much later he came back, walking straight to his bed.

“I’m glad you realise that you need your sleep.” she said, with a little smile. He looked up at her, smiling as well, before slipping under the blanket.

“I do what my nuna tells me to do.” he said, making her chuckle.

“I’m sure you do.” She walked towards the bed, sat down on the edge, and stroked the hair out of his face again. “You get a good night of sleep, Seungri goon, so that tomorrow you can put up another great show.”

“That was the plan.” he mumbled. He had his eyes closed, obviously sinking away into sleep already. She kept stroking his hair as she had done in the hospital, listening to his breathing. It didn’t take long to even out, a sign that he had indeed been very tired. She stayed by his side, stroking his hair a little longer, but after a while just sitting there and looking at him.

The sound of the door opening made her look up. Ji Yong walked in, closing the door behind him again. He smiled at her as he walked closer to sit down next to her. She turned her attention back to Seungri, making sure he hadn’t woken up from Ji Yong’s entrance. Luckily he seemed to be soundly asleep.

“I hope he’s fine. I was really worried when he was in so much pain. He could hardly stand. I was surprised he kept going on for so long.” Ji Yong whispered to make sure his young friend wouldn’t wake up. She nodded, still just looking at Seungri’s face. She could still see him as she had when she entered his hospital room. He had looked small in the white bed, making her want to protect him.

“Can I ask you a question K’Ae?” Ji Yong suddenly whispered, pulling her out of her thoughts again. She only nodded. “How old are you?”

“I’m nineteen, why?”

“Just curious.”

She turned her head to look at him. He was watching Seungri, but looked up at her as he noticed she was looking at him. A little smile appeared on his face, making her smile back. His brown hair was a mess, yet it still looked good on him. He was one of those people that looked good with almost everything. As she looked at him, she started seeing more details. His dark eyes were less fierce than Top’s. His mouth, however, was formed in the same feminine way, with small lips. When he noticed she was looking at him, he smiled shyly, bit his lower lip and turned away his face a little, covering it with his hands.

“You’re making me feel ashamed.” he said, followed by a chuckle that gave away his uncomfortable feeling. She smiled because of the sudden cuteness he showed and quickly turned her face back to Seungri.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” she mumbled, trying her best to hide her amusement. She couldn’t help herself and looked back up at him. He was looking at her as well, smiling when their eyes met. There was something about him that made him look very cute and young, even though he was probably older than her.

“How old are you?” she asked, mimicking his former question.

“I’m nineteen as well.” He smiled and ran a hand through his hair. “Just curious?” he then added, eyeing her questioningly. She chuckled and nodded. He grinned.

Before she knew what happened, he put a hand on her left cheek, leaned towards her, closing the distance between them in no time while doing so, and gave her a kiss on her right cheek. She froze as she had done before, all her muscles locking in place. Her eyes clung to his lips as she stared in disbelief. That was the second guy giving her a kiss today and she felt exactly the same emotions as she had before.

“There’s something about you..” Ji Yong softly said, sounding deep in thought. He shrugged when he couldn’t find the right words and laughed a little. “Well I don’t know what it is, but I like it.” His smile lit a fire inside her that seemed too hot to be safe. She was soon proven right as the heat became too much and turned into pain. She saw Ji Yong’s smile turning into a worried look as she wrapped her arms around her abdomen in pain.

“Are you alright?” he asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. That touch sent a sudden shock through her that made her look up at him.

“I’m sorry.” she choked out, before focusing her thoughts on Top and how she wanted to be with him, thereby moving to his side.

He was alone in his room, about to get in bed. The moment she appeared next to him, she collapsed. He caught her before she hit the ground, pulling her up and against him in an instant. His expression was worried, his eyes trying to find what was hurting her, but of course he couldn’t see anything. He opened his mouth to say something, but she wrapped her arms around his body and clung to him as she had done before.

The moment her arms locked around him, the pain faded away till there was nothing left but the memory of it. She almost went limp because the tension disappeared so suddenly, yet she managed to keep herself together. The disappearance of the pain brought a new awareness to her mind, however. The touch of Top’s chest against hers seemed almost a reassurance that everything was going to be alright. She didn’t want to pull away, but just standing there also felt a little awkward.

In the end he was the one to end the contact, giving her a very thoughtful look as he did so. She could only look back and hope that whatever was going through his mind wasn’t negative. The silence lasted between them, but to her big surprise she didn’t feel anxious at all. It felt like being in his arms was how it was supposed to be and hugging him was simply natural. For the first time she could almost feel her soul wanting to be with his, wanting to reunite, and she wouldn’t have been surprised if suddenly she would have gotten a heart again, beating in unison with his.

“What’s wrong?” he asked. His eyes wandered over her face, trying to find what was wrong. He worried about her. The look of terror in her eyes when she appeared next to him had been very strong and when he caught her, she had trembled in his arms. He had a few ideas now about the how and what of her presence, but apart from those he was still trying to figure out some more details. Like the feeling of belonging he had whenever he was around K’Ae.

“It just wasn’t right.” she whispered, but he had no idea what she was talking about. Her arms hung next to her sides, her eyes stared at his chest without seeing anything. He couldn’t stand seeing her like that, so he put his arms around her again to continue the hug. She immediately held on to him again as if her life depended on it, but he didn’t feel the pressure. The only thing he did feel was relief that he held her in his arms.

Throughout the whole concert he had watched her sitting there, talking to a guy he didn’t know. He had figured the boy was a ghost like her, because otherwise someone would have noticed him. Her reaction on his song had made him want to comfort her, but the moment he did, he felt guilt take over his body, as if he was the wrong person to do so because he had made her sad to begin with. Somehow she had noticed the sudden awkwardness and had left again.

It was an ever present compassion for him and everyone else that she carried in her heart. She was worried about everyone, showing a great love for the world and everyone in it, that made him question life and why she died. If there was a God or whatever, he would not have let someone like her die. A sigh came over his lips as he looked down on her again. She lifted her head right at that moment and their eyes met.

“I want to kiss you.” she said, without looking away from his gaze. His first reaction was surprised, being unsure about it, because he had no idea what to do, but then he realised she had said it herself, so she would take action if she wanted to. Yet she didn’t. She just stood there and looked at him, with an expression that betrayed her own surprise over her words. When no actions followed, he simply lowered his head and kissed her.

The moment their lips touched, she wrapped her arms around his neck. He could feel every part of her body that was pressed against his, making it easy to know when she was going to pull away. To his surprise the kiss didn’t end, but only became more intense. He couldn’t say he really minded, but it did feel weird. For some reason he couldn’t blur out the thought in his head that he was kissing a ghost.

It was only when the door opened that they let go of each other. He quickly turned to his bed, his back facing the door so that the entering person wouldn’t see his face. His lips seemed to burn where they had touched hers. He couldn’t grasp the reality of what made her so attractive to him. The whole ‘other part of his soul’ story was indeed acceptable, but so unbelievable that it was hard not to think of other explanations.

“Hyung?” Ji Yong’s voice sounded at the door, making him forget all about the previous thoughts in his head as he looked up.

“Yes?” he replied.

“Can I talk to you?”

He saw K’Ae immediately moving towards the door, planning to leave them so that they could have a talk. When she passed Ji Yong, she let her hand rest on his shoulder for a moment, sharing a look with him. He didn’t see her face, but Ji Yong softly smiled when they did so and that image provoked a sudden outburst of jealousy in him. It burned hot in his stomach, surprising him with its intensity.

The feeling was so illogical that he almost wanted to laugh at it, but part of him really couldn’t stand seeing them acting so close when he was not involved. It felt like Ji Yong was going to steal her away from him. That of course was the biggest bullshit ever, yet it was impossible for him to push away the feeling. He was almost relieved to see her walk out -no, wait, through was a better description- the door on her own.

When Ji Yong walked towards him, the jealousy disappeared, leaving no traces of its existence. He decided to forget about it and focus on his friend for the time being. They sat down on the bed and he watched his friend, trying to figure out if something was wrong or he just wanted to talk. Ji Yong looked back at him, obviously doubting a little how to bring up whatever he wanted to talk about. Eventually, he got it out.

“So K’Ae is like the other half of your soul..” Top simply nodded, so Ji Yong went on. “Do you believe it?”

“It does .. feel that way, yes.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well.. It’s like we belong together. When I’m with her I feel more whole than I ever felt. I want to be around her at all times, never let her go, something cliché like that.” He couldn’t help smirking because of his own words. It sounded so much more ridiculous when he tried to explain it out loud than when he felt it.

“So you love her?”

“I guess so..” The moment he said it, he felt that answer wasn’t sufficient. It was like something inside him jumped up, screaming at him that he was lying. That was why he quickly changed his answer. “Yes, I do.”

“Looks like you’re the lucky guy, hyung.” Ji Yong said, putting a hand on his shoulder and smiling. He didn’t really know what his friend meant and that probably was visible on his face, because Ji Yong went on talking, grinning as he did so. “She loves you too, it’s obvious. Seems like you’re going to be able to have a girlfriend without anyone noticing.” Top couldn’t help smiling, but there was one thing that kept bugging him.

“But she’s a ghost..”

“So? Does she look like a ghost to you? Does she feel like one?”

“No.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“I just can’t get that thought out of my head. The realisation that she’s not real.”

“It will pass, I’m sure. Besides, even if she is a ghost, what does it matter. We all see her now, so no one will catch you kissing air. I say you go for it, hyung.”

Ji Yong was grinning widely because of the ‘kissing air.’ Top had to admit himself that it did sound pretty silly. He smiled a little at his friend, thinking over the talk in his head. In the end he decided Ji Yong was right and he should just go for it. If, of course, K’Ae felt the same way. Judging from the kiss earlier, though, he was quite convinced she did.

“I guess you’re right.”

“Of course I am. We’d better go to sleep now. Tomorrow is the last concert, we should make it a great one as well. Goodnight, hyung.”

“Goodnight.”

Ji Yong got up and left the room. Immediately after he did, Yong Bae walked in. He only smiled at Top, before getting in his bed. The message was clear; Just go to bed and sleep already. Top couldn’t help chuckling as he left the room to change in the bathroom. After that he quickly checked where K’Ae was.

He found her in Seungri and Daesung’s room, chattering happily with the latter. Immediately the intense jealousy returned, making it hard for him to keep a neutral expression on his face as he approached them. The moment she saw him, her face brightened up with a genuine smile. That made the jealousy a little less and he was able to smile back.

“What are you going to do tonight?” he asked, not bothering to sit down as he planned on going to bed right after. She smiled at him, before looking at Seungri.

“I think I’m going to stay here and watch him tonight to make sure he sleeps enough. I’m a little worried about him.” she said. Immediately the jealousy rose to unbelievable proportions. He nodded, turning around and walking out the door before they would be able to see the killer gaze in his eyes.

“Goodnight Daesung.” he said as he walked out. He heard the reply coming from behind him as he closed the door. Trying to suppress the jealous feeling, he crouched into a ball the moment he was in his bed and pulled the blanket up to his chin. He lay there like that, trying to understand why he had suddenly become such a jealous person. He had never been like that before. Then again, a lot of things had changed since she had come. He was still pondering about it when he fell asleep.

The next day, the third concert went well too, making it a great end of the year. In the few days they had off to celebrate after that, they often went out together. During that time all five boys became accustomed to her presence and she was accepted as a sixth inhabitant of the apartment. Even Yong Bae of whom she had thought he didn’t like her, soon involved her in the conversation. He apparently was a very shy boy, but once he got to know her, he became really open.

She often folded the laundry with one of the boys helping her or just sitting with her while having a conversation. When Daesung was around she was always laughing, with Yong Bae she had more serious conversations and Seungri often flirted with her, which she couldn’t help but be flattered by. They had decided not to tell him anything about the whole soul-theory, to see if he could come up with a theory himself.

Ji Yong was a different case. Every time she was talking to him, she kept the conversations very polite and short, because being around him too much made her feel uncomfortable. More than that, when he became too kind she often wanted to just flee to Top like she had done the first time. He seemed to understand that pretty fast, as he soon kept a decent amount of distance towards her.

Only when Top was with them she easily took all of Ji Yong’s teasing and jokes, but that wasn’t very often. In general she wasn’t around Top much during day, but the moment everyone had gone to bed, she sat next to his bed, or at least in the same room as him, and watched him sleep. It calmed her down and gave her time to think about all the things she had done that day. She would then be up and making breakfast again before they woke up, so no one ever really noticed that she didn’t sleep at all.

Weeks passed. The boys released an album in Japan with mostly English songs called For The World. As they had to go over to Japan for promotions and a little concert, their schedule was as busy as ever, making them miss a lot of sleep. She worried about them, so she often took the cleaning part for herself, forcing them to go sleep. At first they didn’t want to let her do everything, but when she told them it would give her something to do over night apart from sitting and thinking, they agreed.

One day, she found herself sitting on the edge of Top’s bed, softly stroking his face. She always did that when she was bored. At a certain moment, he opened his eyes and looked at her, like he often did when she touched him. A smile appeared on his face. She smiled back, but pulled her hand away to let him sleep on. Part of her felt bad for waking him, another part just missed his touch and wanted him to be awake and talk to her.

“If I pretend to fall asleep again, will you go on then?” he asked, his voice a very low whisper. The smile on her face brightened when she heard those words and eventually changed into a giggle.

“Probably not. I would be afraid to wake you again.” she then replied, whispering too, just to create the feeling that they were discussing something very private.

“Then how do I have to bribe you into continuing?”

“You could try asking..”

“That would make it too obvious that I want you to go on.”

“Mhm.. Well, then you might consider doing something that makes me want to go on.”

“You mean bore you to death?”

She couldn’t hold back her laughter at those words, immediately slapping a hand over her mouth to dim the sound. He smiled again upon hearing her joy, but apart from that just lay there watching her. Her laughter faded away to a smile and she softly poked his cheek with a finger as she answered him.

“Just be creative and I’ll see if I reward you.”

“You want me to be creative?”

“Yes.”

“Me?”

“Yes.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes. What’s the problem? You’re a rapper, you’re creative, aren’t you?” She bit her lower lip.

“I was just making sure that you knew what you are getting yourself into.”

She looked at him a little surprised, not really understanding what he meant with those words. Before she could ask, he lifted up his arm, thereby lifting up the blanket as well, and motioned her to come closer. She stared at him in disbelief, her eyes moving from his face to the bit of space next to him in the bed. He motioned again when she didn’t show any sign of moving.

“Oppa.. What..?” she mumbled, trying to sort out her thoughts.

“You sit on the ground too much, K’Ae.” he said, shrugging a little. “It makes me feel bad.”
Still unbelieving, but unable to withstand his strong gaze and the seriousness in his voice, she carefully lay down next to him, keeping as much space between them as she could. He let the blanket fall down again, pulling his hand back to him as he did so. A few seconds passed, before Top’s voice broke the silence.

“Am I that scary?” The quiet tone of his voice made her wince. She couldn’t stand it when he was feeling bad.

“No.. It’s just.. This is strange..”

“K’Ae, you’ve sat on my lap so many times, this is not any different apart from the fact that there is now a blanket covering us. We’re both wearing clothes and I’m not planning on taking any off. Aside from that I do plan on falling asleep again as soon as possible. I promise I will not eat you.” He sounded amused as he said that, softly touching her hand with his fingers, before pulling away again.

She had to admit he was right. In the end, she had been close to him so often, she could as well just lie in the same bed as him. A little unsure still, but trusting him, she rolled closer to him, snuggling against his chest. He carefully put his arms around her and let his head rest against her shoulder. Immediately the strange feeling seemed to disappear and she relaxed in his arms. After a few minutes of silence, she realised something.

“Oppa.. I can’t continue what I was doing like this.” she whispered. The only answer was a short hum. Top didn’t let go. Instead he muzzled his nose in her hair and pulled her a little closer. It made her smile.

“Goodnight.” he then said. She heard the smile in his voice.

“Goodnight.” she replied, closing her eyes even though that didn’t make a difference. She saw just as much as when she had her eyes open, but somehow closing them felt more appropriate. She soon felt Top’s body relaxing, his arms still not letting go of her however. A happy smile appeared on her face and she let her thoughts drift away.

The voice of one of their crew members woke him from his sleep. He didn’t really feel like getting up yet, so he pulled the blanket over his head and tried to remember his dream to go on dreaming it. That’s when he realised that something was wrong. It had been weeks since he slept long enough to get woken by one of the crew members. Normally he woke up earlier than the others just to spend some time with K’Ae.

When he realised she wasn’t next to him anymore, he immediately pushed aside the blanket and got out of his bed. There was no sign of K’Ae in the room, so he checked the bathroom. When she didn’t appear to be there either, he immediately ran into the hallway. The surprised comments of the crew went passed him as he checked the other boys’ rooms, trying to find her. She was nowhere to be seen.

With a sick feeling he walked towards Ji Yong’s room, the only one he hadn’t checked yet. As he opened the door, he almost bumped into Ji Yong. At first Ji Yong was acting a little annoyed because he thought his friend was there to wake him, but the moment he saw Top’s bewildered expression he realised something was terribly wrong. He immediately closed the door again and followed his friend towards his bed.

“What’s wrong, hyung?” he asked, seeing his friend almost freak out over an empty room.

“K’Ae is gone.” the reply came in a panicked voice.

“What do you mean gone?”

“Just gone. Not here. Disappeared.”

“That’s very unlikely. She’s probably just walking around the hotel or something. Calm down, hyung. You’re freaking out.”

Ji Yong’s words didn’t calm him down. They even made him panic more than he had done before. She had never been ‘just walking around’ in the hotels. She never left without letting him know, and even if she did, there was always something inside him telling him she was close. Something that could almost feel her presence, even when she was in another room. That something was gone as well. Everything that characterised her presence was gone.

He didn’t notice how much he panicked until Ji Yong’s arms were suddenly around him, holding him in his place to stop the trembling. His friend’s mumbled words didn’t reach his mind, he just heard the sound of Ji Yong’s voice, trying to calm him down but not really succeeding. Even though he had never liked physical contact, he could only be glad that there were arms around him, holding him together when he was falling apart himself.

“Hyung. Hyung, listen to me.” Finally the words reached him. His eyes found Ji Yong’s face and locked with his friend’s dark eyes. He didn’t know how long he had been staring at the wall without seeing anything, but Ji Yong looked pretty worried. “Hyung, get back to your senses. She will show up again somewhere today for sure. Let’s just go have breakfast and go through our daily schedule. She’ll be back soon enough, before you know it.”

He nodded, not sure if he would really be able to pull it off. He had grown very used to having K’Ae around in the amazingly short time she had actually been with them. Looking up during concerts, she had always been there somewhere. It was hard to imagine her gone. Yet she was and he would have to deal with it. As Ji Yong said, she would show up again soon and things would go back to normal.

So he got up and started his day. Keeping in mind that K’Ae would come back made him able to act normal, smile and perform like usual. But as the hours went by, she didn’t return. Morning became afternoon, afternoon turned into evening and still she didn’t reappear. Trying to keep himself out of the panicky state he had been in that morning, he kept believing that she would come back sooner or later and that she would have a good reason to have left.

Yet it didn’t end after one day. The next morning she was still gone, same as the morning after that. Day by day went by, but she had completely disappeared. Days became weeks and the interviews and concerts turned into a never ending stream. His mind was constantly occupied by lots of things, so he never got the time to stand still and think about the fact that she was still not showing up.

After a while they all got used to her absence again. It was shamefully easy to fall back into the life they had had before she was there. In the end he even found himself wondering how he had ever been able to get so hooked on a girl, a ghost even, that he got so freaked out when she suddenly left. Thinking about it, he could have seen it coming to him. She was a ghost after all. With that thought he banned her to an abandoned part of his brain, forgetting about her.
