[FIC] Memories

Title: Memories
Characters: Super Junior
Rating: R
Chaptercount: 2/26
Summary: Fifteen people try to find the memories they forgot - or maybe they're just looking for each other.
A/N: A fic written on a hunch. One day I thought; "Super Junior. And vampires. This calls for a fic!" and well.. Here we are? Memories is one of the stories that I'm proud of, despite its sometimes messy storyline. It's also a story that won't be fully understood until you've read it completely. Things will be very confusing as you read, but will also get explained in future chapters. Be warned.

Jongwoon stared at the younger man lying in his arms, pale face and looking more dead than he had ever seen anyone look in his life..and death, depending on how you looked at things. The taste of Kyuhyun’s blood was still fresh in his mouth and it made him cringe thinking of how he bit his friend and drank from him. Biting another vampire in the same place the sire of this vampire bit him or her is strictly forbidden, for when you do that, you replace the sire’s control with your own. He knew this, yet he still bit the younger one, because he had no choice. He needed him to understand and he was never going to get the younger to do his will if he wasn’t forced to listen.

Slowly the other’s eyelids fluttered open and Jongwoon was gazed at with a slightly hazed expression. He made himself ready for what was to come and waited calmly for the other one’s outburst. Which came mere moments later. Suddenly the younger man’s gaze became focused and the moment he took in Jongwoon’s features, he hissed and jumped back four metres. His eyes started glowing a bright red for a split second, but then the colour faded again, because Kyuhyun couldn’t stand up against his sire, which had now become Jongwoon.

“What did you do?” The question came out of his mouth soft and almost vulnerable sounding, as if the always snarky Kyuhyun had no more fight left in him.

“I need you to know.” Jongwoon replied, voice full of hurt and regret. The only way he had been able to bite his nearly life-long friend had been starving himself for a week straight and then strengthening his resolve by the need to have him know about everything. He lifted his arm and reached out a hand to the younger. “Bite.” was all he said, an order. The other shook his head violently, obviously not wanting to go anywhere near Jongwoon again, but his body betrayed him, already walking forward against his own will.

“I hate you.” the younger spat out, his eyes glowing a bright red as he took hold of Jongwoon’s arm and sank his teeth into the soft flesh. The elder merely looked at this with a pained expression on his face, waiting for the truth to come. A mere second later, Kyuhyun seemed to taste the first drop of blood and his body started trembling all over. Seeing that, Jongwoon quickly wrapped his unharmed arm around the other to keep him upright, his heart feeling like it was being torn into a million pieces for hurting his friend like this.

Donghae woke up to the sound of people running around outside his room. A little surprised, he slowly sat up, letting his brains adjust to the movement. He then got up from the bed and walked to his door, straight through the spot of sunlight that had now moved more towards the door than before, showing a few hours had already passed. He touched the metal handle with his fingers, waiting for some shock to come or anything that was supposed to keep him in the room, but nothing happened. And nothing happened when he pulled the door open a little and glanced outside.

Nurses and patients alike were running past his door, some of the girls and boys dressed in white doctor’s outfits were shouting things at each other in some language he didn’t understand, making him frown and open the door a little further to be able to glance out in the hallway. He saw nothing but frantically running people who were obviously trying to either get to something or away from something. With a frown he reached out a hand, grabbing the person who happened to be running past his room and pulling him inside without much of an effort. He quickly closed the door again and turned to look at the person he dragged in, eyes widening in surprise when he saw the other’s face.

“Ouch! What the hell! Are you stupid!?” the other yelled, quickly stepping out of the sunlight, his uncovered hand smoking from the burn. Once he looked up, however, his expression went from annoyed to surprised and his eyes scanned Donghae’s face, who was meanwhile starting to feel a little uncomfortable in the other one’s presence. The silence lasted a few more moments, before the newly arrived young man suddenly seemed to find his voice again. “Have we met before?”

Donghae could only stare back, racking his brain to find a positive answer to that question, because it felt like they did, but he couldn’t find anything. For that reason he slowly shook his head and mumbled a defeated “No.. No, I don’t think so.” They stared at each other for a moment longer, before both seeming to snap out of it. “What’s happening out there?” Donghae quickly asked, pointing a finger at the door he had snapped close.

“One of the patients is holding a nurse hostage and they’re trying to find someone who can understand him, because he’s talking some weird language we don’t know.” the other said, rolling his eyes as he talked about the patient gone crazy. “Who are you anyway and why did you drag me in here?”

“I’m Donghae. I dragged you in here because I wanted to know what’s going on without having to run along with that crazy mass” Donghae calmly replied, holding out his hand in the sun after seeing the other burn, only to notice he still didn’t feel a thing. Was he really no vampire then? Had it really all been a dream? “Might you be so kind to tell me your name?” he quickly continued, his eyes finding the other’s again. There was a short moment of silence, before the other smiled and nodded.

“The name is Hyukjae.”

The moment Kyuhyun’s teeth sank into his hyung’s flesh and he tasted the blood, memories started to rush through him. Yet they were not his own, they came from the vampire he was now biting because he had been forced to do so, and they were so vivid and full of information that it was almost hard to keep up with the never ending stream of images. In the end, he pulled away, his body trembling all over, his eyes shut so tightly that it almost hurt. He faintly noticed the second arm that was wrapped around him as well and then he was pulled against a solid body. His hyung’s body. His hyung whom he had known in the life before he had become a vampire.

“Jongwoon.. Hyung..” he managed to whisper, voice croaky, body still trembling all over as if he had some stupid disease. He entangled his fingers in the fabric of Jongwoon’s shirt and pressed his forehead against the cold skin of the other’s neck.

“Kyuhyun-ah.. Stop shaking.. Get a hold of yourself..” the other replied, and because of the strong command Jongwoon’s voice now had over his body, he stopped trembling and was finally able to stand on his own again. Yet he did not let go, nor did he take a distance, because even though his body was now okay, his mind was still swarmed with images of past times.

He was haunted by so many images.. The memory of his own death as Jongwoon had seen it, the memory of every single one of the member’s deaths, all just as unexplainable as the other, and then Jongwoon’s own death and his waking up into a new life, that of a vampire, with Kyuhyun being the only one to help him out. Kyuhyun who hadn’t known him anymore. Kyuhyun who now felt like he had forgotten the most important part about life; the time he had actually lived it.

He gasped for air, trying to hold back what was wanting to get out, but in the end he lost the battle and he started to sob uncontrollably. The arms around him tightened their grip and in a matter of moments, he felt himself being carried through the air, up onto the roof next to them and then some more roofs away from the place they had been standing, until they sank down on the ground, somewhere in some alley. Yet the sobs did not lessen and he almost choked on trying to gasp for oxygen, until Jongwoon told him to stop breathing. His shoulders kept shocking in his tearless, soundless crying, however, but the arms around him never let go.

Youngwoon was surprised to feel the nurse not responding. She didn’t kiss back, but neither did she push him away, which was unexpected. Yet when he lifted his hand and touched her cheek with his fingers, she suddenly put an arm around his neck and pulled him towards her, responding to the kiss. He smirked against her lips, letting his fingers trail down her cheek to cup her neck with his hand. Right when he was about to move on to the next step, a sudden scream made the both of them snap their heads to the door in shock and the young girl fled from his touch in mere seconds, opening the door and running to see what was happening, throwing only a short apology at him as she fled through the door.

This course of events was even more to his liking and the grin on his face almost cut his face in half by the time he reached the door himself and glanced outside. There were nurses and patients -other vampires- frantically running through the hallway. He quickly emerged from his room and followed the stream for a moment, before slipping into a hallway to his left and quickly rushing away from all the commotion. However, as he followed the hallway, he did take a few turns and walked a lot, but he merely ended up in the same large hallway as he had run through before with all the rest. Great.

Instead of turning left, like everyone else had been going before, he went to the right and then chose a random door to burst through. The moment he opened it, the sunlight nearly blinded him, making him quickly jump aside as he let out a shocked hiss. As he landed against the wall to the side, however, having underestimated the strength behind his jump, he felt no pain whatsoever and he lifted his hand to see that his skin was undamaged. It was only then that he noticed the other two people in the room, staring at him as if he had gone crazy. His eyes went from the one standing closest to him, to the one standing in the sunlight. They were obviously both patients just like him, which showed from their clothes.

“You don’t get burned?” he asked the one in the sunlight, who merely shook his head mutely. He slowly walked forward again and stuck his hand out into the light. There was no pain, no smoke as his hand burned, it was as if the sunlight wasn’t there. He hissed in surprise and quickly retracted his hand back into the shadow. That’s when he realised that if the sun got into this room, that meant outside of the window was no more part of the building, but freedom. With a feeling of having found paradise, he walked towards the window, set on breaking it. Yet a voice stopped him dead in his tracks.
